I love the effect you are getting with the GK minis. One suggestion, that brings into consideration the base's environment, is that any downward facing armour plates could do with a light shading of . In your case the orange-red would be reflected mostly by the front of the shins (along with secondary reflections of blue(?) sky from the top of the boots), and gradually decreasing in intensity to the underside of the groin and forearms, including backpack. I’ve tried previously experimenting with orange on the model, especially near the base using weathering for a dusty Martian desert. However, I didn’t like the final look of the model so stopped for my most recent ones, preferring to keep them clean. My painting ability has come along a long way since then, so it might be worth a shot trying that reflection effect in the future!
Ive painted my grey knights with both a white primer and a Darker primer (its like dark green/blue but the darkest i have cause i ain't buying more), and i will say, i love the darker version a lot more. Im currently learning how to paint and do metal highlights, like, when you add the white to have brighter areas and I'm enjoying it quite a bit
