Balisong was negatively popularized in Filipino action movies where it was often a weapon of choice by kidnappers, hoodlums, and prison breakers. Locally, the slang for balisong is "vente nueve" meaning 29 - this is because the flipping technique is like drawing a number 29 in the air 🔪
Pwede na mang holdap si Jared at Ryan😅 I remember playing with a Balisong as a kid with my cousin..taking turns to practice the flips. Great content as always lods!🤍
Balisong was originally or I would say invented in my province Batangas, the technology didn't come from any country the word Balisong came from Bali means broken then song actually sung came from sungay which means horn the first Balisong is made out of carabao or water Buffalo horn. During when Spain colonized the Philippines the first thing that the Spanish did was to confiscate all metal that is why Batangueno invented balisong out of horn.
My in law gave me a Balisong coz my wife’s mom is from Batangas but before I left the philippines to migrate in Europe I have to leave it coz I might get in trouble from the law in Europe. Lately I visited my home back in the Philippines I cant find it anymore it has been more than two decades since I left Pinas.
Ah yes, the balisong. For a batangueña, like my grandmother, it is also a fingernail cutter... I fondly remember seeing her pick it up and casually twirl it open and proceed to trim her fingernails with it.😲
We are screwed now! The two most vicious guys to ever roam the planet armed to their teeth and trained in ancient knife combat techniques. And one of them (Jared) lives where I live. Oh dear. 😂 (Really cool video, BTW.)
batangas in taalcis were balisong originally started. is a cheirsh culture heritages of the batangueno people. there u cn see n but many types n form of balisong in a cheapee price believe me....
I always thought that the balisong was a consealed weapon to fool the Spaniards, because the practice of Filipino Martial Arts was banned during the colonial era.
i used to have that when i was a teen but got lost when we go swimming at the beach. 😅😅 i forgot that i put it in my cargo shorts because of excitement to swim. 😅😂
Kuya Ron is awesome. My brother and i are a part of his organization. Glad you met uo with him. Really cool and knowledgeable about the history and art of the Balisong.
The 3rd syllable is stressed for balisong Consider going to a WEKAF (World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation) tournament in the future. For some reason, FMA is popular in Germany
Hello Jared! Proud Batangueno here where Balisong originally came from! Try to visit and explore Province of Batangas .It has a lot, good and interesting to experience and to offer. Enjoy our beautiful country Philippines. You're always welcome here! Godbless!
Jared, I appreciate you and Ryan taking the time and making efforts to learn, and just engulf yourselves in our kultura. I'm a Filipino-American and only been to the Philippines once. You are teaching me things I don't know. Salamat. ❤
Great video Jared ! You brave flipping that balisong around 🤣🤣 Ron: Fellow Bay Area native here as well ! Born and raised in San Francisco .. appreciate how you kept with the culture, values and traditions of our Filipino roots . It always saddened me when Filipinos became overly westernized and lost touch with their heritage. Good on you kuya ! I learned so much from this video ! Thank you Jared and Ron🙏🏼
If you need another content, you can also dive in to Kali (a pinoy martial arts) if you made a long video about it, just break it into a few short vid parts. Just suggesting.
There's these Pacific islanders whose local word for Filipinos 🇵🇭 translate to something like 'one who always carry a knife 🔪' because of Pinoys' 🇵🇭 penchant for carrying blades 🔪 before the 20th century. I remember reading about it but I cannot seem to find now what the exact Polynesian country that calls Pinoys 🇵🇭 that.
Lol.. i wanted to protest the utility use. As a bukid boy we always used our itak for utility. From sugar canes, coconut, clearing, to gutting and cleaning fish or chicken. Balisong was only made for one thing. Everyone in the bukid had an itak. Balisong is what we carried to self defense when in town.
I'm gonna take the word from the Filipino who works with them for a living when he says the flipping technology came from France/Spain and was later adapted in the PH.
Yeah as he say it didn't flip when Spanish arrived which is that's why balisong name we are the one who give it and create the technology "bali" and "song" 😁👌👌
LEARN TAGALOG WITH ME ⬇️⬇️

And then we immediately got addicted to flipping the Balisong knife right after this🤣
Yeah we can rab a bank lets go 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Ryan had you or any Filipino applied for the patent so that other country would not claim it as their own invention?
We also got addicted to the song Balisong....✌️🫶
Now you could do some duels as one of it's former uses
Kuya Ron is freaking awesome. My brother and I are a part of his organization.
Interesting "Foreigners Learn BALISONG in The Philippines!" sharing! You can count on my full support to your great channel/Ned👍👏👍

I just watched your jubilee episode and thanks for appreciating the Philippine culture
Jared, you can do what Chloë Grace Moretz did in Kick Ass.
balisong plus Arnis (kali, eskrima martial arts) was a deadly combination for a filipino fighter

That makes brutal accompanied by skills of Kali/Arnis a filipino deadlest martial art.
Any Valorant gamers? 😂 got me thinking about the butterfly knives in the game
Balisong is actually a place in Batangas where the knife was developed. Hence the term balisong is a name of its place of origin in the Philippines.

You should practice by using butterfly comb at first before the real BALISONG
Do a collab with Kulas (BecomingFilipino)
now learn arnis/kali/escrima! show your progress after!
THEYRE NOT THE SAME AS REGULAR KNIVES😊 BECAUSE IT CAN BE CONCEALED LIKE NOTHING, MAKES THE BALISONG DEADLIER AND MORE DANGEROUS😊

It's like from a Swiss Army Knife. SAK can't be flipped and has many other tools and functions. But a balisong has is only a knife but foldable.
Mostly celebrities in America learning balisong from Filipino people...😅😅

I went directly at the comment section to protest as soon as he said that "people tend to think balisong came from spain & france", ridiculous.

This is one of a kind topic. Very interesting. Ryan is a fast learner.
