Jared because you speak the Tagalog language was the key you learn so much about the Filipino culture and you were able to answer, when you went to the Philippines and spoke with the Pinoys also helped you a lot. Most of them the Fil-Ams dont speak the language so and the only Filipino culture they know is food and Filipino folk dance hahahaha, good job Jared , kung balik ka sa Pinas sa Dec ka uwi para super masaya

The biggest giveaway was naming yourself just "John" because no one ever only has John as their first name. It's always followed with a second first name like John Mark, John Lloyd, John Dale, John Carlo etc. Jared is also a widely used Filipino name, which could be a standalone name compared to John which is always paired with something else.

Very good strategy for not sticking out like a sore thumb right away. Generally, Filipinos are very passive and just love being in the background until people discover that they can sing, dance etc. Like what they say, “sa una lang magpapabugbog ang mga bida.”

Great video & your winning at being the mole in the group. I was surprised that little Tagalog was spoken. I would have figured the group members would "test" you by listening to your Tagalog to single you out.
Also, I was very surprised that "John" (the Canadian) didn't know about the song "My Way" & how it's not to be sung at karaoke. I remember hearing that from several people from the Philippines but I'm not really sure if that restriction is true or not. The rest in the group seemed to know about it but "John" did not.

Most of Pinoys with John as their first name always comes as a double name. e.g. John Carlo (JC), John Paul (JP), or sometime John comes after, e.g. Peter John (PJ)... so yeah... I don't recall a person that I knew with just plain JOHN as first name.

It is common for second and third generation Pinoys abroad to not be familiar with their parent's background. Caviteña in the house. No one in my family can sing or ever used a karaoke.
