Not long ago me and a buddy cleaned out my storage and he noticed an old mapp gas box that I got after dad died. It was filled with (12) 14oz unused cans. He was shocked after he saw the date of manufacture (2003). He said plumbers pay too $ for pre 2008 cans because mapp is no longer made Well I gave him 2 and kept the rest. Supposedly they burn much hotter than the mapp pro. And Im looking forward to melting some gold and silver once I get rehang of it. Thanks for sharing the video
I did this outside yesterday, the borax becomes fluffy and wants to float away initially, then it balls up-I have an oxygen concentrator and propane Smith-little set up, don’t know if it’s glazed adequately.
What are those blocks you are using to create the oven? I also applied my first glaze the other day and now it is cloudy. My research is saying this is either because it wasn't heated adequately or it is too thick. What do you suggest I do? Can I sand it off and start again?
The blocks are fire bricks use these to retain the heat which would also help the glaze, I would use fire bricks then re glaze i have links in the video description for things that i use so check it out ,heres link for the fire bricks, good luck keep at it...FBP6E FireBrick, 6-Pack amzn.to/2yh99PD
Compared to other tutorials, you use a lot of borax, do you feel like you could've benefited from less or do you feel this is the way to go (doing my first one today)?
I just use a pinch although sometimes i use use more than other times. The main reason for the use of borax is so it forms a glassy layer over the molten metal, protecting it from oxidization & it makes it easier to pour. When melting coins 90 percent silver 10 percent Copper, Copper oxidizes more than silver so i give a little more Borax than i would if i was melting a higher percent Silver...I am no expert i learn as i go....Have fun with your first pour.
After the 7:00 mark, ash started showing up. Where did it come from? And would it affect your glaze if it got into it?
It's Borax it just melts
@@JollyPeanut Ah, OK.
You should take the flame out when you put borax
I normally do , when making videos sometimes my Ape brain forgets the basics thinking more about the camera etc ;-)
I never pour but i give you advices :)) today i will do it first time i just received the tools
@@Daniel-iu7ob good luck have fun
