When I was travelling via Miami airport back to London after a holiday in 1981 I spotted Cary Grant striding through the terminal. Our eyes met and he gave me a really wonderful smile. He obviously realised I recognised him. A special moment! Probably 8 years or so before he died. Still A very handsome man!

Strange how you would leave out the actresses of this heralded Golden Age era of Hollywood. There's a reason why they are more revered today as screen Goddesses than the leading man. Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly and many more etc all played their part and were vastly more interesting to look at beyond their incredible acting skills.

I enjoyed the video. I lived in Davenport at the time of Cary Grant's passing.
I still have many friends and family there.
Seeing The Adler made me homesick.
One thing I wanted to mention is the location of St. Luke's Hospital was not by Palmer Chiropractic College.
It was located where the current. The
    Genesis East Hospital is today.
The name of St. Luke's Hospital was changed to Genesis East. Same location.

It's SO rare that I ever hear anyone tell the true story about him living with Randolph Scott. Most people stop at that point to infer innuendo and leave out the fact that their house was known to be akin to a train station with the amount of women arriving and departing. Those 2 were the OG playas.
    Nice job, as always, Jordan!

Sadly he never won an Academy Award - probably because he was so good and so naturally charming in every role he played. I also loved him in Arsenic and Old Lace but I love him in his Hitchcock films as well as those marvelous screwball comedies of the late 1930's. Great tribute with a lot of interesting background information. I live in Davenport and remember this happening; was huge news here, of course, and so shocking and sad. P.S. You should probably do an "update" on this to correct the information regarding the location of the former St. Luke's Hospital, which as others have noted, is still at the same location on E. Rusholme St. and is now known as Genesis East (the former Mercy Hospital was renamed Genesis West; both are substantially larger now.) Interestingly, my former neurologist attended Mr. Grant when he was brought to the hospital; I once joked, years later, that he shouldn't put this on his resume, but instantly regretted the dark humor. I could see he felt badly that there was nothing that could be done to save Grant's life.

He had been healthy most of his life, and I doubt he complained of not feeling well. When he was filming I Was a Male War Bride, he had hepatitis, and his co-star, Ann Sheridan, said she looked at him and thought he looked sick. She touched his forehead, and he was burning up from a fever. He had to be hospitalized. But he would have kept on performing if she had not said something. I think he was the type to ignore any illness and keep working. "The show must go on." When he was being taken to the hospital, he kept apologizing for missing the show. That's the kind of person he was, bless him.

Strokes are just that. No warning now they still have 4 hours to help but not every hospital is equipped to help stroke victims

This was so interesting..I love watching old Carey Grant.. Gregory Peck and Clark Gable movies..there are not many actors these days that compare to them..I think Elvis probably wanted to be an Actor like them.. more serious..but the Con Artist Parker made him sing and dance..it's always good to see you and Jah..hope your doing great 👍😃

Attended his Q&A show in '79 or '80. He was very critical of his own performances. Made a point of giving the financials of each film he discussed. His discussion was more about the business of movies than being a 'star' .

When I think of Cary Grant, I think of how Cubby Broccoli wanted him to be the first James Bond. They were old friends, and Cubby was shrewd enough to see what a perfect fit he would be, but Grant wasn’t willing to commit to doing a series of films because he considered himself too old at that point. But for anyone who doubts that he would’ve been a perfect Bond, just watch Hitchcock’s “Notorious”. It’s almost a blueprint for a early Bond movie

Cary Grant was never considered for the role of James Bond. David Niven was the first choice.

I have 60+ years living in the Davenport, IA area. I've even been a patient at St Luke's hospital myself in about 1967. The location you mentioned in the video near Palmer college was closed in the early 1900's. Cary Grant would have been taken to the same location that the hospital is when I was there in the 1960's and that location is near Bridge & E.Rusholme Streets.

Grew up in the 70s in the UK, loved Cary Grant films among one of the greats! Never been to Bristol where he was born, but maybe one day. Such a beautiful looking man too with gorgeous eyes, loved his films alongside James Stewart's ones memorably. Heard the story that Matthew tells of his last walk, but supposedly he had a stroke back at the hotel, refused to go to the hospital and he got worse. Only when he slipped into a coma was he transferred to the hospital where he then died I heard. I still love watching his films today.
