Does the change with the listing photos mean you have to take the picture of the item and can’t use a mockup? If that’s the case it seems like that means for POD seller we would need to order a sample of every single item we sell. Which seems completely unreasonable to me. I’d love some clarification on this. Thank you for this information!

I agree with @cheryland4872. We need clarity on this and how can this rule apply to some shops and not everyone? I can't see how this can be fair if it's dependent on the size of your shop
Etsy policy states that you CAN use stock photo mockups when you’re working with printing partners (printful, printify etc.). You just need to make sure that you’re using real product photo mockups of actual brands that you’re offering (Bella canvas 3001, Gildan 64000 etc). Also, you’re NOT allowed to use any AI generated images for you main listing image (they can only be used for supporting images)
Honestly, by ordering samples and taking photos or having photos taken for your shop can only benefit you and your business as it takes things to the next level.
As an actual 'Handmade' Maker, I hope this works but I think Etsy 's buyers have already gotten used to mass produced stuff. P. S. Love your videos - always packed with good info.!

@@dylanjahraus - Yes and I have close to 400 listings but the new guidelines don't really say anything about mockups for digital products. (I don't use AI mockups ever, but mocksup I've purchased from Creative Fabrica and other Etsy sellers and really would like to know if those are OK. Printing and taking photos of my products wouldn't be fully accurate anyway since every customer would be using different paper/printer.)

In another shop where I sell craft materials, such as needles and wool (the products are not made by me) it says “made by the seller” in all the listings. How to change this?

I create original patterns, some digital, some hand drawn. The patterns are organized into origami templates that I designed. Buyers print the designs and add their own color with markers or pencils. The product also includes a video demonstration (QR code that takes them to video) that shows the buyer how to assemble the paper craft. What category would my product fall in? I look forward to your response.

I’m curious about two product types that I think would fall into “Designed by seller” because of their digital nature - mockup photography (photos are the finished product and they contain no design work) and custom coded website templates (most of the work done was code and development with design being only a small part). What do yall think?

Dear Dylan, two days since I discovered you and I’m addicted. Can you make a video about what is NOT allowed to sell? For example I’m planning to make a series of jewels with a caricaturish look of old celebrities like Janis Joplin, Salvador Dali etc.Is that allowed, if the caricature is made by me and not the same as any photo?
For POD items I still find it very confusing. If I make an authentic t-shirt design myself it will be “created by” and if I use the same self-made design but provide the option to include your name it is “sourced by”? Or can it still be “created by” when personalization is included in an authentic design? And did I understand correctly that a purchased design from for example creative fabrica, without any alterations made by me, is not allowed to sell on POD, but when I change the colors of that image or add text to it, it becomes an original “designed by” product? So purchased designs are not allowed to be sold without alterations? This will be a good way to increase variety in designs offered on POD items… Can you check what (new) copycat policies Etsy initiates or intensifies by these new standards? Copy cats are my biggest concern

3:22 Does this mean that a digital download seller who sells a text only image file with the words “Best Mom 2024” must display the graphic in a physical product mockup? Or they must only show the graphic without physical product? I would hate to be searching for the phrase “Gift for Mom” and be presented pages of irrelevant digital product results with photos of physical products. Thoughts?

Stock photo mockup are allowed to be used for the POD listings. The only thing you must remember is that it has to be a real photo mockup of actual brand that you’re offering in your listing, which means you’re not allowed to use AI generated mockups for your first image of the listing (they can only be used as supporting images) 👍
Etsy policy states that you’re allowed to use stock photo mockups when you’re working with production partners (Printful, Printify etc.) You just need to make sure that for the main image you’re using real photo mockups (not AI generated images). @dylanjahraus since you are speaking with someone on etsy , could you please mention one important feature that needs an update ? They have the feature where customers can request gift wrap and a personal note and as of right now if you turn that feature on you can not seperate items that can be gift wrapped with a note by you and which can not. I myself have a lot of products i make myself and can gift wrap but a few pod items i have in my store can not be wrapped by me. i wish i could choose each item indivudually that does qualify.

The photo has to be of the actual card but she can still use mockups as long as the card is the actual card in the mockup. The main thumbnail is what counts! We go over this more in detail within our program.
Dear Dylan, you can offer the many training as possible but there is no clue if Etsy wrongly classify the handmade items and apparently you as seller as no power to change the wrong classification because it is re written by and Etsy automation... I have contacted customer support and they cannot give an explanation and what is happening to my store and listing and this is SPEACHLESS because seems ETSY have no control on the changes they have recently implemented. Also they give no solution to this BUG created by themselves. It not involve only me but millions of listing and sellers. his is so frustrating! The category " design by " should apply for digital art or POD or in any case that you have an external supplier but NEVER NEVER NEVER if the item is entirely handmade by the seller. This is what is happening now.

Is the new organization of products designed to amp up sales? My shop has not been as successful as hoped despite the amount of marketing and seo research I have done.
I have been teaching high school art for 28 years. I wanted to create products for crafts that could easily be downloaded, and not a product I handmade. I could certainly designed for print on demand tee shirts and such but it just seems over saturated. So i settled on my coloring designs that with origami folds, can be transformed three dimensional. I also listed some of the products on Teachers pay teachers.

Thank you for your amazing videos, they bring so much value. We are currently wondering about the new policy about nudity and mature items. We sell women's underwear and lingerie, which lots of it is see through. We have our products displayed mostly on a mannequin, but we're concerned. Do we need to censore our mannequin bodyparts? Is lingerie considered mature item? If so, how do we properly tag a mature item? We also noticed something about "no inappropriate review photos". Does it mean we need to report out customers photos in reviews, if they are too revealing? We want to make sure we comply with the new policies, but many things aren't very clear just from reading them.

We are currently wondering about the new policy about nudity and mature items. We sell women's underwear and lingerie, which lots of it is see through. We have our products displayed mostly on a mannequin, but we're concerned. Do we need to censore our mannequin bodyparts? Is lingerie considered mature item? If so, how do we properly tag a mature item? We also noticed something about "no inappropriate review photos". Does it mean we need to report out customers photos in reviews, if they are too revealing?
We want to make sure we comply with the new policies, but many things aren't very clear just from reading them.
