The paddles, when used in "D" drive mode, work just like they do in most other Lexus and Toyota products. They are more of a gear limiter than an actual manual shift action. So, if it says "D5" on the display, the highest gear it will chose is fifth gear. You have to go manual if you want responsive upshifts. Same deal in my IS 500, 'twas the same in my IS 350 before that, and even in other Toyota and Lexus models I've driven over time, that has been the case. The only time you have manual control in a Toyota or Lexus is when the gear selector is in "M" mode. I'm certainly glad to see the "M" in this car, but from the way this gearbox seems to perform, that should not be a concern at all. This looks great.

For a 3 banger it sounds really good.
it really is the more realiable* successor to the STI. Hopefully toyota massages out a lot of the issues it has
Nice video but it's uptown charlotte. Fun fact uptown is the highest point in Mecklenburg County, uptown is uphill in all directions.
Wow looks like an excellent option
Saying chilly 52 degree is crazy 😂
Come to Chicago brother
The new steering wheel looks nice
The interior looks so good and comfy
🤡
Considering how much this car costs, no it doesn't. Looks like any other econobox.
@RicHSAD2 its crap
It’s bare
it's a corolla interior dawg
I think with the rev hang of the engine it suits an autotragic more. I wouldn't have fun in a manual if I'm smoking the clutch shifting fast
I feel like the gear ratios are the identical to that of the IS F’s 8 speed, that 4-5 change is the main reason I say that lol
I wish my Focus ST could last indefinitely because prices for vehicles with similar performance are absolutely unreal these days.
Hope they put this transmission in sporty Lexus too.
Is the audio system better? That’s one thing I feel like isn’t mentioned enough is that these corollas sound system does not even compare to the civics and golf’s.
If it’s the JBL it’s pretty decent. If it’s stock, garbage
finally automatic gr corrolla
I need this in my life but don’t want to trade in my 3rd gen taco
Keep both
same. need a garage/more space
That engine is very much suitable for a small car like gr yaris but putting it in a larger car where majority are using 4 cylinder is kinda meeh.
nice speedy ❤ (I think?…can’t get a good look from here lol)
If this existed in Europe I'd probably sell my 3 series for it.
Most powerful hot hatchback!
golf r>>>>[
my favourite dad car
I would buy a base manual as my daily and as a beater.
Sometimes i contemplate trading my focus rs for one of these since some weeks im driving 300-600 miles. That interior is brutally cheap though idk how id feel about it long term.
I wish acura gave this much manual control in the TLX Type s with their 10 speed.
Hell yeah
Question, The Circuit Edition used to come with the bigger spoiler, but I see that the Premium Plus does not have the big spoiler. Is that no longer available for 2025?
No sport wings by default on GRCs 2025 and on
My 2025 Premium Plus came with one, but it’s not standard equipment anymore. It’s a factory or port installed option, like roof cross bars, rear chassis brace, all weather floor mats, homelink rearview mirror, etc.
Charlotte!! my city!
Damn, when did you film this? I'm 5 minutes down the road from CMS!
I wish this and the civic type R didn't have center exhausts. For being practical hatch sport cars, that center exhaust ruins potential for a hitch for bikes or a small carrier/basket.
I really like this car but that interior is brutal at this price point. I would rather a newsd Lexus is500 or a new is350 awd
I got the 2022 corolla hybrid. It looks like mine. I just don't have good traction and it's slow😂
I thought GR models were manual only? I've been under a rock clearly
New for 2025 and announced fairly recently so not a big rock.
GR86 comes in auto too
GR86 and GR Supra also comes automatic
Was hoping for the eco mode , never happen. Notice that the normal mode upshift is a little later. that's not what you want for a daily drive.
Why are you buying a hot hatch like this and trying to drive it economically?
@sharkeatinpizza
Fuel savings at this time are important. No one would buy this car if it gets 15 city 17 combine, 20 highway.
Id get a prius in the future for fuel efficiency
@@ChristianGuy7000 I average 21 mpg in my 24 premium, you won't die dailying one of these even in today's era where gas prices are high
That Altima at 13:59 lmao
I'd be willing to bet they learned how to better tune the transmissions from BMW during the Supra partnership
will this model catch on fire?😆
The GR Corolla will shine on a small and windy track or the Nordschleife - not on a large Oval
Never thought I'd see a Topher video of driving from south Charlotte to Charlotte Motor Speedway during rush hour. It's kinda bizarre seeing you drive around where I live lol
C43 amg is a way better bang for buck with more space and around 400 to the wheel stock
@thetopher lol I am sad at how the Elantra N always seems forgotten in these comparisons. But great video.
2:28 the JBL sound system us debatable, it sounds like ass for a premium audio system
I hate to be this guy but where is the spoiler? Really feel like the car needs it.
None of the 2025s get the sport wing iirc
25's are Sleeper status. Thank god.
But who is actually buying a 50k corolla? I was super pumped about this release until I heard the price. It is literally more money than a base 330i, g70, c class and all the others in that segment. That's NUTS.
