Hey, you're driving on roads that I know this time! Thanks for taking us on a commute drive (although I felt my stress go up as soon as I saw the 485 signs.)
The paddles, when used in "D" drive mode, work just like they do in most other Lexus and Toyota products. They are more of a gear limiter than an actual manual shift action. So, if it says "D5" on the display, the highest gear it will chose is fifth gear. You have to go manual if you want responsive upshifts. Same deal in my IS 500, 'twas the same in my IS 350 before that, and even in other Toyota and Lexus models I've driven over time, that has been the case. The only time you have manual control in a Toyota or Lexus is when the gear selector is in "M" mode. If the car doesn't have an "M" mode - for example, a Lexus ES 350 - it does not have a true manual mode. I'm certainly glad to see the "M" in this car, but from the way this gearbox seems to perform, that should not be a concern at all. This looks great.

In Canada you can get the MK8 GTI Autobahn with DCC for under $44,000 CAD OTD. The GR Corolla premium is $67,000 CAD without markups. The price difference is wild just for AWD. The GTI is just as fast outside of a launch, so much nicer inside, and very tuneable. If Toyota wants to sell these cars to enthusiasts, they really need to reconsider their pricing.
The GTI is very subdued, they really blend-in, hence why they sell so well, a lot of non-car enthusiast buy them aswell. This GR Corolla is a catered enthusiast option out of the box, and that costs money. Is it worth $67,000 CAD? No. Truly no new car is worth the price nowadays.
As an Elantra N DCT owner, I was genuinely shocked they didn’t go with a dual clutch, but it sounds like the conventional torque converter auto is pretty good. I never drove a Camry TRD when I was cross shopping it against the Elantra N, but all the reviewers said it was not a good transmission. Too bad the rear seat and hatch are so cramped. I love the design of gauge cluster. It looks so retro. Like from the 80s
If this had been available one year ago, when I bought my Type R, would it have changed my decision? Mmm… probably not, but it sure is an attractive alternative. Choice is good!
Nice video but it's uptown charlotte. Fun fact uptown is the highest point in Mecklenburg County, uptown is uphill in all directions.
So glad this got the 8 speed auto.
This automatic seems to be extremely good. Just short of dual-clutch but definitely on par or better than the ZF.
It will be extremely good until it’s on fire 😂
I doubt it’s better than a bmw tuned zf
Too new to tell how reliable it will be. As you can't compare it to the ZF8, just yet as I've had it for a while on a couple of my vehicles.
@@BingBong-el5tzdude like two of them have caught on fire. Relax
@@gavcom4060 He went over 85 and the car was in 5th at 37mph. I'm surprised we didn't see the obligatory LSPI and warranty voided comments actually haha. I'm a GRC owner, so much weird drama in this community haha.
The new steering wheel looks nice
I wish my Focus ST could last indefinitely because prices for vehicles with similar performance are absolutely unreal these days.
it really is the more realiable* successor to the STI. Hopefully toyota massages out a lot of the issues it has
Is the audio system better? That’s one thing I feel like isn’t mentioned enough is that these corollas sound system does not even compare to the civics and golf’s.
Hope they put this transmission in sporty Lexus too.
my favourite dad car
I need this in my life but don’t want to trade in my 3rd gen taco
Keep both
same. need a garage/more space
Most powerful hot hatchback!
golf r>>>>[
They still put this little display with the thick bezel into the interior even though there is an updated interior since end of 2022 in Europe.
I feel like the gear ratios are the identical to that of the IS F’s 8 speed, that 4-5 change is the main reason I say that lol
The fact that they would add a digital cluster but couldn’t even be bothered to increase the size of the infotainment system is insane to me😂. Me personally IMO I would choose a bigger infotainment screen than a digital cluster.
No one gives a crap about the infotainment in a sports car. I would get rid of the infotainment screen completely it’s called driver focus. That’s why they focus more on the gauge cluster.
Charlotte!! my city!
It amazes me how close behind each other people drive in the US at 70 or 80 mph... seems extremely dangerous.
Hell yeah
Damn, when did you film this? I'm 5 minutes down the road from CMS!
finally automatic gr corrolla
will this model catch on fire?😆
this will be an incredible option in 5+ years when you can pick these up used in the mid 20k range.
Do you think they will depreciate that much?
No way they depreciate that much lol
Check out Focus RS prices. I think these will be similar.
@@wellsbengston4132 eh not quite, i think these are being sold in greater quantities than the focus RSes were
but i do think they'll still be upper 20s-lower 30s after 5 years
@mikeydude750 Focus RS US sales were around 9,000. GRC sales won't exceed that number by much. Production is limited, by design.
I would buy a base manual as my daily and as a beater.
C43 amg is a way better bang for buck with more space and around 400 to the wheel stock
They auto is for me😂
I really like this car but that interior is brutal at this price point. I would rather a newsd Lexus is500 or a new is350 awd
I wish acura gave this much manual control in the TLX Type s with their 10 speed.
I got the 2022 corolla hybrid. It looks like mine. I just don't have good traction and it's slow😂
I hate to be this guy but where is the spoiler? Really feel like the car needs it.
None of the 2025s get the sport wing iirc
25's are Sleeper status. Thank god.
I thought GR models were manual only? I've been under a rock clearly
New for 2025 and announced fairly recently so not a big rock.
GR86 comes in auto too
GR86 and GR Supra also comes automatic
The bezels on that screen are YUGE. Terrible interior for a 50k car
heard that rev limiter and almost lost NNN
I'd be willing to bet they learned how to better tune the transmissions from BMW during the Supra partnership
The price is amazing too. expensive.
@thetopher lol I am sad at how the Elantra N always seems forgotten in these comparisons. But great video.
Are there 2 different Grey paint options now or just 1?
Damn for 50k brand new you’d expect a better interior……… and some more wow factor cause damn well you not paying for that 3 cylinder…. The oem exhaust is sad to be honest imo. This is such a niche car…. Happy that Toyota made a GR Corolla but I hope the next gen will be better.
You went over 85mph. 😁😂
This or the 86 platform?
Depends solely on what you need more, more fun, or more practicality.... thought the corolla can do a lot of what the 86 can do. Plus, four wheel drive in Canada.... here in the Netherlands we don't get the corolla so the choice would already be made.
What we really need is the 86 with the GRC engine. The FA24, while a big improvement over the previous gen, just doesn't have the fizz in my eyes.
@ what about the complaints and concerns over the small displacement size of this Corolla engine do you really think it’s gonna withstand pressure and be able to be reliable at the same time?
@ yeah it’s about 400 pounds heavier but it’s really a tossup
Yea 400 lb
The GR Corolla will shine on a small and windy track or the Nordschleife - not on a large Oval
Question, The Circuit Edition used to come with the bigger spoiler, but I see that the Premium Plus does not have the big spoiler. Is that no longer available for 2025?
No sport wings by default on GRCs 2025 and on
It’s amazing it didn’t combust spontaneously
Why?
It's amazing how people like you beat on dead horses and think it's actually funny or relevant
I wonder what MPG the 8 speed gets on the highway.
I wish this and the civic type R didn't have center exhausts. For being practical hatch sport cars, that center exhaust ruins potential for a hitch for bikes or a small carrier/basket.
