    From New Zealand you can see (with the naked eye at night) the Large and Small "Magellanic Clouds." These are dwarf galaxies that orbit our own. They're not visible from the Northern Hemisphere. They got their (English) name following Magellan's circumnavigation voyage beginning 1519 - when sailors on the voyage reported clouds in the night sky that didn't move with the wind like normal clouds. Obviously they were known by other names to people living south of the equator long before then.

    I once did some stargazing on a rural mountaintop where someone was passing around military night vision goggles... It was unbelievable how many more stars there are just below our visual threshold, even in a place where light pollution was minimal. It was like wearing the Hubble Deep Field on your face. That camera captured this event quite well.

    • @firmanshah6499

      mistercohaagen how do we get that goggles? can i buy it online? or not...

    • @mistercohaagen
      @mistercohaagen 6 лет назад

      Firman Shah you can find nvg goggles and monoculars at military and surplus outfitters, and some places sell it as hunting gear. eBay as well; some people keep theirs when they get out of the military and flip them on there. There are better and worse generations of light amplification technology, but stay away from camera-ir based toys... Educate yourself before buying; www.nightvision4less.com/education-center-night-vision-generations.aspx

    Nice video :-)

    I have a SlySky FS-i6 and the FS-IA6B, is it possibel to use S-BUS on that setup?

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 лет назад

      They ia6b receiver should be able to output SBUS, but only with the right transmitter. The standard FS-i6 will not do it, but you might be able flash some custom firmware. The only thing I have confirmed to do SBUS is the FS-i6X transmitter (standard firmware). I tried it in this video: ruclips.net/video/WBVmkXN8HC8/видео.htmlm14s

    Super blue blood moon as seen from North Australia. Australia's east cost had a fantastic view of this spectacular natural event. Luckily sky was all clear and we had a wonderful front row seat view. Just after totality cloud started covering the moon. So the video only covers up to the totality. Video is compiled with shots taken by Nikon 7100.

  • @Jon_G
    @Jon_G 6 лет назад

    Great topic astronomy and a lot of things to awe us in the sky. Was curios of what object you saw that looks like a cloud but is made of stars but figured out when you said it's spread across the sky - that can only be our own galaxy The Milky Way and unfortunately less and less people can experience that amazing sight because of light pollution. I bet that is why you haven't seen it in Japan which is much more populated and so much more light pollution.
    For the occasional star gazing night I highly recommend a pair of binoculars with not too big magnification(7x50mm or 10x50mm are nice) and that will show the numerous pinpoints stars in our galaxy and the Magellanic clouds which are smaller satellites galaxy to our galaxy and can only be seen best in the southern hemisphere.
    All the best!

    • @andydodson5718
      @andydodson5718 6 лет назад

      Hi John, no, when he describes it as being "like a cloud" it'll be either the LMC or SMC he's looking at. These galaxies are too far south in the sky to be seen from Japan

    You can say that flat earth doesn't help us predict lunar eclipses...but NASA is still keeping it a secret. And how is it possible to both the moon and the sun in the sky, and there be a shadow being cast of the Earth? If the moon gets it's light as because it is reflected from the sun, that how is it possible for red moon light show through the shadow? Yet a thin cloud can completely block out the moon? Do you know where I can look at a lunar eclipse map of the last hundred or so years?
    Nice video.

      sablechicken the red light comes from . You guessed it red light spectrum , the red light spectrum is a wider beam than the other spectrums so it kind of 'bends' (?) Around the earth and still hits the moon . Get a true grasp on physics before you go listening flat earth "experts"

      Light bends and can split into different colors as it refracts, I thought every 8 year old knew this from the triangular prism demonstration.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refraction
      ruclips.net/video/uucYGK_Ymp0/видео.html
      The least deflected wavelength is red, which is why the lower part of the sky is red when the sun is close to the horizon at sunset or sunrise (refraction through the atmosphere). I hope you also know that it doesn't immediately get pitch dark the moment the sun goes down, there is still an hour or so of low light where you can see fairly well.
      So if you were standing on the moon, this eclipse would look kinda like a sunset to you. That is, the 'horizon' as the sun was hidden behind the earth would start to turn red. Then you get an hour or so of that after sunset low light, and then another 'sunrise'. There is no point where we would expect the moon to be pitch dark. Get it?
      As for lunar eclipse maps of the last 100 years, here you go:
      www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/list.html
      You can select ten year time spans back to 1900 from the pull-down list, and all the way up to the year 2199 if you like. This was the second result on first page of my first google search, it took me about 3 seconds to find. Hmm... just wondering, is it possible that you haven't really bothered to look into this much? :)

      iforce2d, thank you for your reply. We have been told that the red part of a lunar eclipse is actually the shadow of the Earth. You are telling me that it is something different. That it is the light of the sun bending around the Earth, changing white light into a rainbow of color but we only see the red because it is at the end of the spectrum. Which brings up more questions. What is the prism that produces the bend? If it is the atmosphere, than why are we not seeing a lunar eclipse every month?
      This link
      www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/list.html
      is interesting but I am not finding information on past lunar eclipses from 1900 there.
      What I looking for is a pattern. How does NASA predict these events?

    Reji Mathew Ponntharael-
    Red moon happens when moon passing near or above the volcano , that why the moon showing red because of the fire shadow of the volcano

      Reji Matthew.Ponntharael s. I happens when the moon is behind the earth and the sunlight goes on it. So shut up or I hope you you get slapped.

      we are getting light from sun , so the same fire light comming upon earth too. then why the earth doesn't shown red color for the satlite pictures

      The sun red light is passing on earth and bounces on the moon you idiot.

    Did shadow come in east west direction??? Strange activity there at the end!! So whole purpose was to further your belief in a ball... Well god luck standing there upside down!!Why does the ball earth even need defence??And what can a tiny boy like you bring to this that FAR "greater" men haven't already told us???

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  6 лет назад

      It came in exactly the direction predicted here: www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2018-january-31
      Why do you think I was outside at 2am looking at the sky in the first place if these predictions were not reliable? The purpose was to witness something that doesn't happen all that often, and to test the zoom and night features of my camera. I already said this in the video, just watch and listen instead of getting upset over nothing.
      The ball earth does not need any defending, it's you who needs to learn how to take an analytical approach and process the reality you see with a sound mind instead of being a gullible dupe who entertains such painfully absurd wackjob conspiracies. You are an embarrassment to 21st century humanity :)
