This video convinced me to go see this with my kid in 2024 who was 18 months at the time he's now 8 and was amazed as I was today in Mont Mégantic with 2500 people who experience a perfect weather dead center full solar eclipse.
    Couldn't ask anything better!
    Thanks Derek

(I was there too! Even if we were 2500 people there was a short time period where everyone stayed silent when the eclipse started... it was amazing)

I saw this in southern Illinois...it was super hot and humid that day. The coolest and eeriest thing was the sudden and refreshing drop in temperature and how nature reacted. As soon as totality started, the cicadas starting singing and the birds went silent.

My Dad, myself, and two of my closest friends went to Sparta Tennessee to watch this eclipse. I synced pink floyd dark side of the moon to the time of totality (dad's favorite album). It has come to be the absolute favorite memory of my life. In July of 2018 my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away April 2nd 2020. Until his last day he thanked me for convincing him to come with me to experience this once in a lifetime event. I will never forget this special day. Love ya dad and I'll see you on the dark side of the moon!

I was not far away at the Eclipse Festival. It’s impossible to describe the sensation of the moment of totality. 50,000 people howling like animals, the air getting cold, the stars coming out. It’s the only time in my life I could really feel the immensity of the moon and the sun. I don’t quite know how else to say it, except that it was by far the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen.

The dewpoint was high in Carbondale, IL. It was very hot and humid, around 95 degrees with a heat index around 110. During the eclipse, the temperature dropped to about 81, and the heat index went down as well, making it very pleasant outside. I imagine there was more of a dramatic temperature drop out west were the air was drier.

    • @NYTruthseeker

@darkdezire could you say more about how this video captured what you saw? was it the sun with the donut hole? or the spliced in images that looked like NASA images? The sun with donut hole surprised me. I thought more of the sun would be covered in totality.

    • @inciseinfinity
      @inciseinfinity 6 лет назад +3

@@NYTruthseeker well, the sun is blocked by the moon, yes, but not totally. that's why in the filtered video, you can see the glorious ring when the sun reaches totality. light is still coming out from the sun to earth, and since the light is coming from multiple directions, you will see the sun as a donut with your naked eye.

I live in Canada, but I'm obsessed with space, and it's been like the number one thing on my bucket list to see a solar eclipse so my dad and I took a road trip all the way down to Tennessee. I can't even explain how incredible it was, I remember specifically at the moment it happened, the entire crowd I was with began to cheer and whoop, just like in the video. it was amazing, definitely one of the best moments of my life, and I think that everyone should be able to see an eclipse irl in their lifetime

Being in such a massive crowd takes away one another impressive part of the eclipse: the sound of silence.
In 1999, my dad and I were in France. Noticing the clouds were ruining our experience,we jumped in the car and had a wild ride along small countryside roads to a location where the sun was still shining. Minutes before the total eclipse, we stopped the car in the middle of nowhere and jumped out of it.
Those last minutes were unforgettable. As if nature surrendered for this phenomenon, all crickets, birds, dogs and other creatures - including the both us - became absolutely silent. That overwhelming sound of silence with the beauty of the eclipse and within the company of my dad is still one of the most precious memories in my mind.

The next two total solar eclipses will give you very little chance to see totality, as will the 3rd one unless you think millions of people will decide to travel to Antarctica. The 4th, 2024 one, will cross the most land than the last 3, giving millions the chance to witness it. We're talking about totality, not just any eclipse.
I don't get why people are so butthurt about a country being excited for something that hasn't happened in nearly 100 years. The next one on 2024 will probably be viewed by more than the next 3 combined, if we're all still here. :3

Total solar eclipse is really weird thing. You have to experience it to understand the hype. We had one in Finland 22. of July 1990. It's really hard to describe. It's day at first and then suddenly night. One second the birds are singing and you have all the sounds then darkness comes and everything stops. Total silence. It's really scary. I think everyone should experience it once in their lifetime. It's a perfectly good reason to travel across the globe.

Kai Marcad I would love to see it once as well but I think there's other phenomenons that intrigue me even more. I'm much more happy to have seen an aurora borealis (you as a finn will understand) at least once in my life.

I imagine if it was designed it would always be that way, unfortunately the moon will eventually drift too far away from the Earth so that all solar eclipses are partial. Granted, the moon moves away at 3.8cm every year so that will take about 600 million years, quite a long time to us people, however the earth is 4,500 million years old, so not very long compared to that. Similarly, there was a time where the moon was much larger than the sun in the sky.

Totally agree. The crowd reaction is a big part of the experience. :) I saw 2017's just outside Madras, in a crowd of probably 20,000 people. The combined screams and cheers and "Oh My God!"s the second totality struck was something I'll never forget.
Hope you got to see the 2024 eclipse. I went to Del Rio for that one and was nearly clouded out -- had a peek of the corona for about 10 seconds. So you're in the "make sure I think about every action I do 10 times to make sure it's the right thing to do and not 'pretentious' or 'cringy'", that certainly has it's place sometimes but usually is the no1 way to become pretentious yourself while going through day to day life annoyed at everyone else. In events like this, I'd rather connect with people, and react how I wanna react, with no thoughts, no filters, just reacting with my emotions, instead of fake emotions carefully crafted not to look 'pretentious' and be the coolest ever

I think people get so excited and kind of freaked out because it really reminds people that what's out there (planets, stars etc.) have an impact on us and we are not just isolated and unbothered from space, here on earth. This is then a really extreme example of that and why we act accordingly. Btw amazing video! Love how you captures it all! Absolutely stunning!

Katone Vi yea, sure, the watchmaker did it?
There are other solar systems out there, ask them, it would be a thing too, if the moon was smaller, or bigger, it is simply the fact of beeing in line, it is you, making a "coincidence?" out of it, cuz you wish it would be, to make you special.

Katone Vi the moon is tidal locked. Its not a coincidence, it just happens. The sun rotates in about 24 days, so only seeing one face of the sun isnt even a thing

This is how the solar eclipse happens.
    Sun: *about to touch Earth*
    Moon: *DONT TOUCH THE CHILD*
*sun and moon arguing in front of Earth*
    Edit: no no no-
This comment is so stupid and cringey XD who would like it in the first place-

ehm, but the moon was a part of earth until a mars like planet crashed into earth, making the moon. So the moon is the child:)

My son and I just experienced the clear sky totality of the 2024 eclipse. It was amazing. We viewed it in the center of Ohio absolutely breathtaking.
