I's crazy how just one diode brings the TV to it's knees and it refuses to start up. Nice fix. I like how some people would rather try to fix something than just toss it. I tried doing this on a TV but It was so badly damaged the only thing I could do with it was make a nice shop light out of the backlight.
It's crazy to think that such a minor part (which was probably under-spec'ed at the design stage) would sideline a device that was otherwise perfectly functional. Makes you wonder how many perfectly functional devices are filling up a landfill for want of a 20 cent part. I get companies would want you to buy a new device but man, talk about waste. Great video as always, Maxxarcade.
I have a Magnavox 32ME402V/F7 it has the same high pitch sound as you described. I bought both boards on eBay but it still has the sound, even with the new board. I'm returning the power board and try with another.
You can find a lot in the trash in canada,i picked up a sony home theatre with all speakers, wires and they even threw the remote out with it :D dvd drive was stuck and it just needed a srewdriver to get it unstuck, it also had 4 dvds in it as a bonus...
I've got a similar Magnavox model that is a few years older than this one exhibiting a no-power symptom after several years in service, caused by some kind of issue on that power supply board. Any ideas as to what would be a good strategy to isolate the faulty component?
this reminds me of a TV i might be getting to see if i can get it working again the tv quit working after lightning had struck his house all u can see is a standby light
Hey. When you find these dumpster dive gold mines, do you resell them after you fix them? Make a decent wage doing it? Love your videos; very entertaining. BTW, I have a Yamaha RX-V1000 receiver that won't power on (it relay clicks on, then back off almost immediately). I hope it's something simple!
Makes sense. Seems that zener is directly across the DC output. It should also work without it in place,I assume it just provided some protection against voltage spikes? 1ZB27 is a 27V 1W zener diode. I assume that voltage rail might be +24V,so a 24V zener might be cutting it close.
How do you find shorts? Do you set your DMM to ohms and check for infinite resistance? And if there is infinite resistance, that means its wide open aka shorted? Or do I have it backwards. Also, I'm assuming polarity matters when checking for shorts?
awww I wanted to hear that squeal noise it made... I couldn't see the scratch on video. what is that orange box to the left of your work area? -EDIT: nevermind, I saw the video where you talk about it.
I have this exact TV, and the hdmi ports have stopped working. Any suggestions? I'm not an electronics expert, but I'm pretty handy, if maybe there's just a small part or switch that needs to be replaced?
hey do you have a schematic for the powersupply of that tv i have rn that had a bunch of shorted components in the primary i resolved all the shorts but still no standby power im having trouble finding where it is and someone ripped the sticker of the back but that powersupply looks similar thx
MilenniumEdition 56 Everything shares the same switching transistor and transformer, so It only takes one shorted part on the output side to bring down the whole power supply.
Hey I need help on a Dell Dimension 5100, I took out the 2 old memory stick and add 4 new sticks to it. So after turning the computer on, all its showin is ......windows is loading files......for hours so is that normal
Final Strike Be observant. I once got an imac out od a dumpster that had a bad hdd that I replaced. I have had it for a few years now. On trash days I scan the curbs with my peripheral vision while I am driving places and have found other nice things doing that,

Your the best and the weight is a great thing for moving the TV. That whole thing was throw away because of a tiny ant sized zener diode!
Perfect fix. Bought a 300 pack of variety 1W diodes from Amazon for $8.

I was wondering 'why would you bother with such a pos' but then you explained you had a purpose for it and it all made sense.
Great job maxxx!
The 5w2r2j. Made a spark

d4v3tm I think he is in michigan.
its nice to see that even the cheapest TV's can be fixed.
How did you manage to buff out that scratch on the LCD? Seems like a good skill to know for the future.

What a nice tv set...for free!

PhattyMo I wondered about that too. The replacement is running cold so far, but I might still replace it when I do my next parts order.

I had an Emerson TV and it experienced a power surge; it made a high pitched squealing noise.

That looks like a Walmart Black Friday tv that someone threw away. They're actually pretty nice tv's.
That was pretty simple of a fix. BTW why was that thing so unstable when only one part shorted?

Maxxarcade I see...

With the quality of Funai-made products, you either have to laugh or shake your head at it...
Where do you live? I can barely find a broken dvd reader let alone a freakin tv

i put an add on fb. picked up six in a week
There is a fix that you can try for that crack. Buff it with Vaseline, sounds stupid but kinda works.
What did you use for the scratch?
What is the pn for that zener? and where can i get one?
Good one
