    I'm using a 2235 that originally had issues with the built-in audio amp,ever since it was new. Eventually it failed to power on completely. I removed the little amp board,jack,speakers,and all,and it's been working ever since.
    One issue I noticed was a slight discoloration in the upper corners,when it was running for a while. It was caused by heat buildup effecting the LCD panel,so I drilled some holes in the rear panel,in the upper corners,and that's no longer an issue.

    I had the same monitor die with the same symptoms yesterday. This video inspired me to tear it open and take a look at what had happened inside. Sure enough, there were two bulged caps on the power board, with one seemingly spewing something. Managed to scavenge two caps with the same values from a dead router and a PSU, and after the replacement the monitor came alive! Kind of strange how the caps wore out because that monitor was not even plugged to power much of the decade.

    Those Panasonics were leftover from the 1060 marantz recap. :) I can't wait to recap mine. I found the original power amp for it in a friends garage. Yay! Good fix maxxx!

    I've got one of these monitors, in fact I'm using it right now on my main machine. I got mine for free, and it had the exact same problem as that one… Wouldn't turn on, and the cause was bad caps. I replaced the bulging ones (there were 3 as well), and haven't had a single problem since.

      ***** Seems like a classic case of a bad batch of caps. I see it so often that I hardly think twice about it anymore.

    Nice, I wish I could mail you (cheap) an 4 year old LG monitor that died on me last year. I've been wanting to tear it open and see if the caps are bad, but haven't had any time.

  • @theflinx
    @theflinx 9 лет назад

    You should replace all the caps that are the same brand as the ones that were bad, I have fixed a few of these and if you just replace the swollen ones, the remainder WILL go bad at some time.

    Hey Max, I just got MIXXX, like you have, its the free version. How can I import my AMAZON music to it, like I can with itunes, and how can I let it plays songs without having me cue it up then it play. LIKE how can I make it play like a radio station. Been a subscriber for a few years. Your videos are fantastic. Thanks Gio.

    Funny, i think i have the 19" version of that viewsonic somewhere in my basement with the same exact 3 dead caps. Didn't bother fixing it since i have so many LCDs laying around atm that this is the least of my concerns xD ... About that EQ: it does have way more clarity in the highs with the EQ on even through the camera and youtube. Great song btw. as usual. Also, i just love to see this system in seperate racks since all you'd need to do if a random party would come up is get two Friends to carry it upstairs. Just imagine how much it would take to move a all metal rack with 6 k2s in it just about anywhere xD ...

    I am using 2 of these monitors right now, i got them for free with bad caps, but that was no issue to me at all, I got 5 of these from someone that worked for an insurance company as an IT guy, These monitors are great! I still have one i need to replace some more caps, then it will be monitor #3!.

    I was working for a company that would throw their flat panel monitors out when they stopped working. I took a few of them apart and replaced those very caps and ended up repairing 19 of 20 monitors. A few months later they laid me off. Their loss.

    Maxxarcade I'm still using a CRT monitor, a 21" viewsonic from 2003. It's been a great monitor for many years but lately its starting to show "glow" around some white icons like text files in the left side when I fire it up. I'm using a black background desktop. I think some games are showing it too. What does that mean? Thanks

      Really nice drivers! Last weekend we had 12 very interesting 15"+18" biamped cardioid subwoofers on our stage + 3 dual 21" subwoofers in end fire cardioid setup for the very low end by twaudio. Ever thought about using biamped cardioid subwoofer setups?
