Ok I Subscribed. I originally grew up near Chicago. I just remember that my small town, Galesburg Illinois opened up an Underdogs when I was 8 years old, Many, Many Moons Ago and my Mom asked me if I wanted to try the Chicago Style Hot Dog. And I was like yes, and I ate it in under 3 minutes. And then I asked my Mom if I may please have another one? Which completely shocked her because she was not used to me asking for things. She happily gave me another one. I haved lived in the South now for a few decades, and sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night. Dreaming of Chicago Style Hot Dogs, and Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches and Italian Beef Sandwiches and Deep Dish Pizza. ARRRGGGHH!!!
my 1st Chicago Dog i ever had was from a little hot dog vendor on the sidewalk just out side of the Field Museum. That is a simple but great experience that is hard to beat.
Gene & Jude’s made the reputation because the Thirsty Whale iconic rock venue was right next door. Go to see an upcoming rock band, put back a few and go to G&J to finish the night. Same with Weiner Circle across the street from the Metro. Now that’s Chicago!!
I live in FLA, but have eaten at Portillo's, Fatso's Last Stand, Devil Dawgs (just last week on DD), and the OG Hot Doug's location. I'll mark the rest for my next trip.
I live near Chicago. Growing up the best hot dog was Wally's at Diversey and Central. It was a garden on a bun. I think it was a kosher dog. Mustard, shreaded lettuce, relish, tomato slice, and cucumber slice. Nothing like it exists right now.
You Two did a great job! I worked all over Chicago and all suburbs for 30+ plus years. Been to all of those except 2 of them. Even the Vienna Rep. lived across the street from my boss. I normally eat healthy but when you get a craving,............ LOOK OUT! CHICAGO DOGS ARE AWESOME! There are many good dogs all over. Great job👍again
Hot dougs closed many years ago. Where have you been? You must have been watching a TV Food Show and not from Chicago. It was the best but not for a Chicago style hot dog but for his homemade sausages
We had a place in Evendale Ohio, it was called Chicago Dog, I work at a company across the highway from it. It was the best tasting hot dogs I have even eaten. They had their own dogs made for them.
Ohhh yeahhhhh yummmmmm!!! Yeahhhhh dis one's a reel winner yeahhhhh! Jus so gud ta see, oh yeahhhh! Me jus lovin dose hot doggety dogs, yeahhhh! Tanks fer sharin guys & yeahhhhh peace!✌
Augustino's in Wheaton has a pretty good beef sandwich. 5" long sandwich with double red sauce, mozzarella cheese and hot giardinera is best. If you have a big appetite, get the large size beef sandwich. 5" is smaller of two size beef sandwiches.
Perfect timing for the upcoming holiday. My father loved his hotdogs and I will dedicate the weekends barbequed hotdogs to him. He had his favorites of mustard and sauerkraut with onions. Mine was the chili dog but there are soooo many good toppings out there. I'm hungry now for a hotdog and it's only 8:30 in the morning. Happy Memorial Day guys.
Not only are they “cheap”, they are good too! I grew up about a mile from Gene’s n Jude’s, next door used to be a music venue called The Thirsty Whale, rock and roll and hot dogs, great!
Thank you, now I'm starving! And as I live in the Tampa Florida area at the moment, there are only two places that do it justice and BOTH ARE CLOSE TODAY! Whaaa! Okay now I know what I'm doing for lunch tomorrow :)
Also when I was 9 I remember walking to Super Dawgs, It was only a couple miles away from where I lived after all, and I had Exact Change for Two Chicago Style Hot Dogs. And then the police and my Mom showed up. But I had Two Chicago Style Hot Dogs in My Stomach. Hahahahahahahaha 😂!!!
Great video. The Duck Inn and The Hot Dog Box are two of my favorites. My absolute favorite is 35th Street Red Hots/Red Hot Ranch. Same depression dog style as Gene & Jude, but better in my opinion. Check it out if you get a chance. I got to try Chicago's Dog House and Hot Dougs.
So much of Chicago is about the towns in the city and where you live, I was near the Brickyard for a bit, so on a summer night in Gene & Jude's parking lot was one of the best places to eat a dog. To be honest, any picnic bench on asphalt or car trunk lid was as good as any fine dining.
How did The Wieners Circle in Lincoln Park get left off this list??? It is probably the most famous in the city limits. Otherwise, it's a solid list....and now I'm hungry for one.
I always remove the pickle spear and eat it separately. The pickle spear is too much with the dog....already has relish. Same with G&J...take the fries off...maybe a couple get left on the dog but the beauty is the fries soak up some of the dog toppings.
I think that gene and judes is the place where they have a poster of clint eastwood from the movie sudden impact were he says nobody but nobody puts ketchup on a hot dog
What drives me crazy is the damned pickle. The original Chicago Dog has a slice of cucumber, thats what gives t its unique flavor. Make them build it with a cucumber because thats the only way. Im 65 and my Grandma took me shopping with her on Milwaukee Ave all the time and she always bought me a Chicago style hot dog from a bicycle cart vendor, always served with a cucumber no damned pickle. The pickle relish is already on the dog. I grew up on dogs all over Chicago and always made with a cucumber.
I tried Portillo's in Kissimmee, Fl. rates a 4.5 on 1-10 scale, I was disappointed. it was eatable but just. Dog was Lukewarm at best and had slight aftertaste I did not care for.
i love the close ups of the food but man ,, the close ups of eating it is just way to close kind of in your face...grose. but other than that great vid. cant wait to try my self thank you both so mutch good review....peice

I don't think these two are from Chicago. If they would have been there they would have noticed that there's no poppy seeds on the bun which is a huge no no. Plus at the duck end they don't use sport peppers like he said they are Serranos
The fry’s on the hot dog are an abomination. The no ketchup thing is amusing, hot dog snobbery. Portillos went wrong with the new owner, but I think the fixed the problem.
I took my kid to the aquarium years ago and we got hotdogs from a cart well and she’s a picky eater so she just wants plain with kectup and the lady working started to give me grief about it, I mean does it make sense to argue with a 8 year old on what they can have on their sandwiches

theres a reason why it no longer exist. You put lettuce on a hot dog?
You have to go next door to McDonald's for ketchup when you're at Gene and Judes. LOL

Portillos is the bomb. I was in countryside Il working on a fire truck. I at lunch and dinner everyday there.

BYRONS is awesome as well. DAMN i miss Chicago. A green River drink to top it off is heaven.

Skyway hotdogs, S.E. side of Chicago on 95th street. I actually heard they are for sale atm...try a double cheese with everything while there too!

2024 Glad Portillo's Hot Dogs & Italian Beefs Have 5 Locations in Dallas / Fort Worth & 2 in Houston, TEXAS. I was Made in Chicago, IL. (southside)

WHY No Ketchup, on Chicago Style Hot Dog?
Easy - You have Fresh Sliced Tomatoes !!
Ketchup is OK for your Krinkle-Cut (Portillo’s) French Fries.
I do like no seeds on the hot dog bun…Superdawg was a huge dissapointment
Portillo's Maxwell Street polish sausage is much better than the hot dog.
Snoop dog 😭😭😭
Go to Chicago for hotdogs, New York for pizza, and New Jersey to take a dump.

Ok
Whats with no ketchup thing? 😅lol 😆 i always eat my dogs with ketchup. Even on Chicago dogs.
