Yes it does get cold on Haleakala. It's not just latitude that counts but elevation makes a huge difference! I can't stress that enough. I brought my puffy parka, hat, long pants, socks and gloves for the sunrise. I'm sooo glad I did. It was windy and 40 degrees 🥶

@AdamandMadalyn he is smart just saying. Sorry your videos could be better. But you don't have to show everything you eat . It's rude to record that you couldn't finish all your food I get that but don't record it . Who really cares what your eating. People will find things to eat . Are you trying to be a advertising for food or exploring to show Hawai.I live there by the way and i don't care for people being rude. i

You were literally steps away from a botanical garden that every human should see. Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve and Garden. I have been many places around the world and this garden was breathtaking! I could spend 4 days exploring this garden.
Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve and Garden Overview
    (Formerly Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden)
The Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve and Garden is a 40-acre natural garden of tropical plants and a nature lover’s paradise located in the Onomea Valley, about 5 miles North of Hilo, Hawaii. It good to see that you both enjoy our island Fusion in the island delicacies as well as the natural out of the way places to see, you also do well in your pronunciation, most people make my skin crawl. Keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing more where ever you go.

Thanks for the kind words! We try hard to pronounce things correctly but a lot of times regional dialect trips us up. We’re from the Midwest and have a tendency to be fairly lazy with pronunciation.

Cool vid. We have been to Maui many times and Oahu twice, but never the big island .. That lava at night was the best thing to see. The rest is alot of driving to get from one hiking trail to another. One thing, most people like to see the food ordered, but not that many like to see people eat it. Also, it seems like you show slot more of you guys than the locations. It’s excellent to talk and learn about where you are, but it would nice to catch the views as you are talking. One question, loved that bungalow place in the big island, but did you see any spider in the room?

Great video! My wife and I are headed to Maui for our 20th anniversary in about a month and cannot wait! I had a question on the Road to Hana. When doing it all in a 1 day trip, what time slot would you recommend making a reservation for to see the Black Sand beach?

    • @AdamandMadalyn
      @AdamandMadalyn  2 года назад +1

Brian…Congrats on the 20 years, what a great spot to visit to celebrate!
Everything below is based on the assumption you’re doing the Road to Hana in 1 day and not staying overnight in the Hana area…
Waianapanapa State Park is about 10 minutes driving time before the town of Hana. It really depends on how far you want to go on the Road past Hana, like to the lower section of Haleakala National Park. Exploring the park and doing the Pipiwai Trail in Haleakala was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Maui. That’s going to take up some time and we don’t recommend driving back on the Road to Hana in the dark. I think the goal should be get to the Twin Falls entrance before it is dark. Much easier driving from that point to wherever you’re staying once the sun is down because there are no more one way bridges and the road is a much better built highway.
With no stops…I believe from the lower portion of Haleakala to Twin Falls takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, potentially up to 3 1/2 depending on traffic.
The other question is how much time do you want to spend at Waianapanapa. Taking in the sight of the beach is fun, and you can definitely get in the water and bounce around for a bit. It takes a little bit of time to hike along the north side of the inlet. You could easily spend an hour or more there.
My best guess would be between 10 AM and Noon. There are probably some itinerary planners out there that could give you a good estimate.
When doing the road to Hana, we highly recommend an app called Gypsy Guide Road to Hana. It tracks with GPS your location, and the guide provides info along the route. You can actually just by their guide for the whole island and we found that to be incredibly helpful and informative during our time there.
Hope that helps, safe travels and congrats again!

Great video. But. PLEASE stop filming yourself eating. Or chew with your mouth closed. It's hard to watch but the rest of the video is SO good and even when you are talking at dinner or lunch usually it's good info so I didn't want to skip.

For one trip visiting one island we’d say Maui. That said our favorite resort area was in the Big Island so next time we go we’re going to the Big Island and Kauai (which we didnt visit this time.

      Awesome! Really appreciate it!
Big island is definitely the most livable and if Kilauea is erupting that’s a bonus. There are some really nice beaches on the Big Island. Oahu is the most populated and wouldn’t be our recommendation for a vacation if you’re just going to one island.
Maui has great breaches, dramatic scenery (road to Hana, north shore), great little towns, and the Haleakala summit. Plus the Molokini Crater is a great excursion and if you really want to get wild you could day trip to Lanai. We would have done that plus some more hiking but Madalyn was pregnant so we took it easier.

Just my opinion Volcano house restaurant was just horrible. I was there at the end of Covid so that could be something. But the staff was inattentive and when they did pay attention to you they were dismissive and rude. Food also left me feeling disappointed!
