Requirements:
Windows computer that is connected to WiFi (not ethernet)
Android phone
Sony headphones (I tested with WF-1000XM4 but it should work with most others too)
Do this at your own risk only
Good video, but unfortunately no matter how many times I try and different versions I dont see the update pop up , guess Im gonna have to wait for sony to fix their product

Thanks for this awesome video. Very Important Information : Windows Firewall must be disabled for the firmware downgrade to work. You should not just allow incoming connections to "node", you must disable Windows Firewall entirely otherwise the update popup will not appear. I was able to downgrade from WF-1000XM4 2.0.0 to 1.6.1 👍
Does the drain battery issues solve ?.. my left earbud turn off before hours 😢
Unfortunately it doesn't solve the draining issue. If I recall correctly, the draining issue was caused by firmware 1.4 overheating the earbuds and causing permanent and unrecoverable damage overtime.

@@RyanonBasss Yes, from what I know, if you stay in firmare 1.4 for a long time, youe earbuds will be permanently damaged but as long as you avoid this firmware, you're fine.

Sony won't replace mine since I bought it in Austria and not in Israel. I even asked to fly to Austria and replace the earbuds there, Sony Austria told me nicely to fu*k Off
I tried all the options ( versions ) in the guide/folders, nothing was working for me.
300$ earbuds 1 year use, and after that version,
The only thing to do with them now --> literally, throw them to the trash.

Nice. But how decrease firmware if xm4 not connected to phone? Left V2.0.0, right 1.5.2? Versions with different firmware simply do not want to connect. And one by one the headphones can not be connected to the phone.
Unfortnately, you need a 3rd earbud on 2.0.0 or sub-2.0.0 because Sony has put a protection to prevent us from pairing a 2.0.0 earbud with a lower version earbud 😞
@@gracieuse1071 All right. I had to look for headphones of the same version to make it work. Now there is a spare with a firmware of a lower version, probably if you roll back a couple, then you can connect it later, though it’s not clear to which version to roll back. The minimum available for hm4?
Not sure if this will help, but for some reason when i had my IP set to static on mobile it wouldn't show the update pop up. Setting it to DHCP it worked immediately. Thanks a ton for the video! I have 3 XM4 buds and 2 lost the left bud and needed downgrade to replace them, luckily i had the left bud from the third set to help, but it has some massive battery drain issues so it will be next to replace.
Tried everything but my WF-1000XM3 can't find the update. Tried iOS, android with the modified APK but sill no update. Any hints?
I just want to say that I down grade the firmware to 1.6, it worked fine, then I upgrade the firmware again to 2.0.1 because I like multipoint connection, and it still works well with 2.0.1. The battery problems fixed

how can i find the sony fix folder containing all of the firmware for various devices as i saw on your video ?
he just had his extract folder named that. just extract the linked files to a folder and follow the rest of the video as shown and hope it works!

after downgrading to 1.6.1, you can still upgrade to 2.0.1 and it still works. There was something wrong with the previous release of the 2.0 firmwave.
Does it work with wf1000xm3 model? I noticed that quality of the phone calls just dropped as shit with the latest update. It was like in one moment. I got earbuds in my ears and sound was terrible while calling

I lost my right earbud. Can i use this to replace it with an other earbud with a potential different firmware ? Sony said go to Sony center but it looks very costly and the price of the full set.

It is meant to happen. You can change back the proxy after the downgrade

Hi, I recently tried this with my XM4's after they updated to 2.0.0 but no matter what I do, I can't get the update notification to appear in the modified app. Is there any possible fix for this?
Me as well, I have tried everything and I even have left several SOS Signals in the Walkman.blog guide and so far there seems to be no response but I am certainly on the lookout for any fixes since now my XM4's randomly glitch out of sound for a split second every couple of minutes, and since I do not want duel pairing anyway (I find that somewhat useless since it can still only play sound from one device at a time). If you happen to find out how to make it work please let me know and I will do the same!

Bad news (for me). Just test the battery after downgrade to 1.33 and then to 1.26 succesfully. Still battery drains :(

Yes since your phone will try using the computer as WiFi router but obviously it isnt

For those of you that don't see the update pop-up:
I made the mistake to set the Ethernet adapter IPv4 address instead of the Wireless LAN adapter Wi-FI IPv4 address
Also, I set the IP settings to DHCP instead of static how it is in the video.
When you have the Proxy settings configured correctly, you will start seeing messages logged in the command prompt where you started MDR_Proxy.
I installed the 1.2.6 update and it looks like the battery live improved significantly.
Hope this help other people.
Update: I tried different versions of the firmware, but none of them resolved the problem. The battery life I was getting was around 1,5h on the left earbud and 2h on the right with noise canceling on. For premium earbuds this is pretty annoying and I wouldn't recommend getting the Sony WF-1000XM4 because of the problems.

@@dungphamvan5490 Did you change the WiFi proxy on the phone? Make sure you are adding the Wireless LAN adapter IPv4 address instead of any other address.

Hi I tried following the steps, but after update it is still showing 1.4.2 for my WF-1000XM4 s. I can confirm that the firmware in the folder on the pc app is 1.6.1 , what am I doing wrong?

make sure you pick the correct option. I chose the wrong one first and it downloaded the latest firmware available online.

My audio is worst with the update its been too years but am see if I could fix it and also make the noise canceling better
I want to reupload the 2.0.1 but its not available at the file and the app says lastest is already applied. What can i do?

Downgrading from version 2.0.0 to 1.6.1 on the Sony wf-1000xm4s does 3 things:
Says "Bluetooth device 2, replaced" on every button press.
Brings back the battery percentage indicator
Loses the LDAC codec so you are left with AAC.
Only way to fix is to upgrade back to 2.0.0. Which is NOT the fix I want. Because version 2.0.0 gets rid of the battery percentage on my earbuds

FWIW, if you didn't get the update request popup so far, you would need to double check the network accessibility of the node.js application on your Windows computer. I came across the issue when I didn't allow the node.js application on the prompt screen where the script was running for the first time. You can achieve the right setting by following the following procedure:
Launch Control Panel > View by: Large icons > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app or feature... (left panel) Changes settings (administration will be prompted) > seek for node.exe Tick all the boxes. Click "Ok" at all.
If you connect the phone to the WiFi with the proper configuration, I may not get the network alert anymore.

worked like a charm for my WF-1000XM4 s to 1.61. Even the failed update message comes up. After a reset, it's at v 1.61. Awesome and thank you.
Next comes testing battery. If the update is not working, then I'll try to get a replacement.
Make sure you have your proof of purchase if you do try and get a replacement. Had two different Sony representatives tell me it's okay I didn't have the receipt and warranty anymore and they sent me instructions to send my headphones back. I did, took a week to arrive, 3 more days of processing later, they say I don't have warranty or PoP so they won't replace it. When I called and inquired them why, they said it's not their policy, and they they don't know why the other two reps I talked to said it was. Never buying Sony again, that's for sure.
How? For my WF1000XM4 s, I tried and it is still showing me 1.4.2 only even after reset.
@@Glenn.J for me it was persistence. The battery would not last long enough to complete in one go. had to interrupt the upload to earphones and start again. luckily it picked up at 50% the next time (seems to store some of the initial upload) and finish it.
None of that worked though. Contacted Sony and I just got confirmation to get a brand-new set. Lucky me.
Also: make sure you pick the correct option. I chose the wrong one first and it downloaded the latest firmware available online. The I realized that I had to pick #3.
@@zephyrskies My replacement worked smoothly. I just received confirmation that they are sending me a brand-new set. I made sure I took pictures of the packing etc before I shipped it just in case.
@@hilmarkoerner2603if you got a replacement for free even when it was out of their 1 yr warranty you are lucky, mine unfortunately is over an year now. So guess I will try again with either the latest or downgrade. No more Sony for me.

thank you for this. was able to downgrade to 1.3.3. now testing if it resolved my battery drain issue from 1.6.1 fw.

@@daniellr2232 sadly none of the firmware resolved it. on a good note though, sony replaced my unit even if it was already out of warranty for 2 months. I guess the 1.6.1 fw bricked most of the old xm4s.
Updated to 2.0.0 still didn't fix the issue. Actually, much worse than 1.6.1
@@Nova_Ra i think it is because of the unit itself. the old batches were shit. I would try my luck to ask Sony if they can replace your unit.
This is not going to work for many people because firmware 1.4.2 ruined battery.
This worked for some, also to prevent further damage or potential damage.
@@hikirj True. But for many users it is too late. I would also recomande to update firmware to 1.6.1 automaticly if it comes or manualy using this tool.
