Actually, you didn't build a water transfer pump. You purchased a water transfer pump and installed it inside of a waterproof casing, adding hoses and electrical switch.
Thanks Ed, I'm definitely not real mechanically inclined but I enjoyed the project. Yeah, it helps me if my stuff is laid out in an organized manner. Appreciate your comments.
Hey J&A, glad you found it useful. I really like it for the compact features and the easy storage. It keeps it clean and neat...but I really like the switch! Safe Travels, stay warm. Thanks for watching.
That's awesome the pump didn't even need primed. Ima have to build one of these. In my class b I can siphon to fresh water tank using the sanitizing valving using motorhome water pump the issue is unless it's primed it won't pull water from a container. With this contraption I would be able to buy let's say 5 gallon jug of water at Walmart and feed fresh water tank.
Hey Mike, this needed a little help since I put some water in the hose first. I always do that to reduce any potential wear and tear on the pump. But it was sucking the water out of that bucket! It's really quiet and easy to store. I really like mine...that's why I built another one! Thanks for the comment and appreciate you watching the channel. 😎
That's a really good idea! Always have an extra pump around in case yours go out on the RV and of course for the idea that you have transferring water back and forth.
It was a fun project and took less time than I thought to complete. I also didn't have as many "extra" parts left over than I thought too! Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. Glad you're along on the journey.😊
Thanks. I was real pleased with how it turned out...and I used all my parts that I purchased! Very few leftovers. LOL. Alaska should be an adventure. Glad you're coming along on the journey. 😎
LOL. Thanks for the comment. I didn't see an DIY for this on YT so I decided to do it myself to help others who may want to save some money. I couldn't believe how much they want now to purchase one. It has gone up nearly double from several years ago. Appreciate you watching the channel. 😊

Good info! If you are looking for another macerator pump, Rec Pro carry's their own brand. You only have to adapt a garden hose fitting to the discharge! They are about the same as a Flo Jet except for price. The Rec Pro is $140.00, with free shipping, I think. Cheers!
thanks Charlie. I think I'm going to transfer the FloJet to Curiosity but I'll keep that in mind for a possible future replacement. Hope to see you guys in a few weeks. Stay warm down in SC. Say "hi" to Yvonne for us. 😎😊

I really like it, Keith. I use my other one all the time since we boondock a lot. Being in a case keeps it organized and easy to carry. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Nice build. I recently picked up a 60 gallon bladder and will be picking up a duplicate water pump to the RV. Was planning to put it in a box at some point and this provides some good inspiration. FYI those DC connector are not Anderson connectors…just quick connectors. They are commonly used by Motorola but are pretty standard. I do like the real Anderson PowerPoles (red/black) as they are not only polarized but are also genderless. Makes it super handy when making up an assortment of connection cables and extensions. They are popular in the Ham Radio groups.
Thanks for the correction. Yep, they are a 2 pin molded connector. I had Anderson on my mind because I was looking at another project down the road which dealt with the RV battery connections. Appreciate helping to keep me straight. I really like the pump in a case because it's easier to handle, store, keeps it clean and all the parts are with it. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. Glad you're along on the journey.😊
@@bigtruckbigtravels yup Anderson also makes the higher amperage connectors as well (often gray) that are also genderless/hermaphroditic. Look into the smaller ones with red/black housing. They can come with 15/30/45 amp pins.

this video is great and aggravating at the same time. i wish there was more explanation and direction on which fittings go where. Also, a lot of the fittings you link to aren't for potable water due to lead.
Sorry, William. I really did this as a guide and idea video. My original intention was not to do a step by step instruction of how to build it but there are parts of the video which do give you that impression. I hope in some way it does help. Thanks for watching.
You are correct, Jamie. They are compression fittings which provide a seal with the help of that O ring inside. Also, the PVC threads on both male and female help to eliminate any leaks. Thanks
Hey, Mark, I did use some teflon on the brass threads but with the connections to the pump they are a compression fitting with a gasket inside which prevents any leaks. No leaks! Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. Glad you're along on the journey.😊
FYI - that’s an SAE plug not an Anderson plug. I only mention this for those that may be thinking of building this and aren’t familiar with the difference…
Great job. I will definitely be building one myself. I did not see the brass hose fittings that connect to the bulkhead fittings. Which did you use? Thanks. Safe Travels.

Hey thanks for the great video! I am curious , if you were to attach a garden nozzle to the out spout would you be able to turn it on and off? Or would the pressure build too much and fry the motor? Thanks!!
back in the old days of camping, I started with a tent and when I bought my first trailer I used a boat bilge pump to transfer water from 6 gallon jugs to the trailer water tank with an on/off switch. primitive but it worked great
That was way ahead of the times back then! That's very cool and would work great. This was a fun project for me and it was interesting. Thank you for the comments.
Do you think the pump would get to hot in the box if it would to be used to pump water to a pressure washer for detailing. The harbor freight pump would be to loud in an enclosed 6 x 10 trailer. On top of that the videos I’ve seen on the harbor freight pumps they get warm and I would need to run a bypass back to the tank. So the pump don’t burn up.
@@bigtruckbigtravels I would assume I would run it a little longer. But I guess I can connect it to a wireless power plug and the just turn it back on when I need water after the main wash.
David- I was inspired to attempt to build my own Water Boy and was needing some clarification on some of the items from your Amazon page/ store. For the water connectors and covers listed, there seem to be more items than actually used in the video. Can you please specify exactly what items were used in the video? Also, wanted you to know that I am attempting to build mine to accept both the alligator clips you used and a 12V male adapter that will fit into a 12V female that currently goes to my portable power station, so I don't have to hook to a battery terminal if one is not close enough to do so. Hey, Mike, no sticker but a big " Attaboy"! Let me look at the pump. I was thinking a building or a little differently so the reason for multiple parts...plus some package counts were more than I needed. Let me look tonight. Can you send me an email?
No idea, James. I don't believe there is any appreciable amount of degradation to flow with the 90 degree elbows. Probably a little but I haven't noticed a difference. Upon reflection, if I did another pump I would install as I did the first version (straight tubes) but I would add the switch. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. very cool, but why not just buy one of the $50 transfer pumps that are available? I am considering this myself and I think the benefit of this route would be the fact that it can run dry and self prime? And/or these RV pumps are so reliable...? Thanks!
A few reasons for this project. The case is easy to carry and store. The pump is more powerful and will push more water to the tank. The pump is definitely more reliable (I started with the $50 transfer pump and it was not very good and failed after 1 year of use).
@@bigtruckbigtravels Awesome, thank you that is what I was thinking. Do you ever have it lift water from dry or is it always primed? No issues on overheating. It usually only takes me about 15-20 minutes of pumping to empty our tank on the truck so that's as long as I've run it. I usually close it while running and the water helps to keep it cool as well. Plus all my connections are rated for 20 amps so as to insure the electrical side is sized properly.
