A masterclass in how to play the blues. You simply didn't get to join his band if you weren't one of the best. Frank is always under-rated on any list of the greatest guitarists. Sadly missed.
Only saw him once but a genius guitarist. His solos throughout his career were awesome and he was a level above practically all guitarists except Page, Hendrix etc who I would rate as equal. I think now there is increasing recognition of how great he was as a composer and musician in general.

The Torture Never Stops got it's start as Why Doesn't Somebody Get Him A Pepsi with Capt. Beefheart singing it. It is on YCDTOSA, Volume 4. That earlier version was, indeed, performed at the same concert as Bongo Fury, but was not included on that album. A reworked version, stripped down and performed by FZ and Terry Bozzio along with moans performed by Gail Zappa and another succulent young lady was the first released version on Zoot Allures.

Yeah. (I think) this song is about Motown records and how that company took in musicians, drugged them up, told them what and how to play, and spat out one hit wonders for the radio masses to pay the company for airtime and advertising. Dropping n-bombs in the song gets your attention!

Utterly great song. Unfortunately fucked up by one of the most unnecessary (albeit highly stupid) sound effects ever overdubbed on a Zappa song... the hell was he thinking when he put together 'the dub room special' video in '82. It's up there with that stupid 1986+ mix overdub of johnny guitar Watson's vocals on fish thing's "he's so gay'.. way to ruin a song that was already fine the way it was originally released. This song has never been released on any album? I get to know it thanks to the Dub Room Special and a bootleg named Kreega Bondola
Zappa released it on a volume of you can;t do that on stage, can't reemember which volume but would be easy to find out
Vol 3
It was already released on the Dub Room special dvd. I was bummed it wasn't on torture never stops too.
This version is vhs tape.
They missed heaps on that DVD, I bought it just for the hope that sinister footwear was on there. Nope, cut out.

Frank plays his solo as if watching a Monster Movie in the meantime...
While playing this solo he was thinking up the lyrics to the song The Radio Is Broken, to be recorded the following year.

I don’t remember it being that way.
