That Blue International as others have mentioned is a 1955 and in addition is known as a Westcoaster RD 405 Custom.
The first time I saw that truck was out near Utah. I actually thought it was some kind of custom b model Mack. I saw the fella driving it and he made me think of a Santa Claus who was able to still kick my butt! I believe he said it is a 55 but for sure an international. He also told me he built that truck from a junk yard and he did every bit of the work himself! Pretty amazing piece of work. Wasn’t to long later I saw him out around Tennessee. Keep a look out because that fella don’t mind working!
First time viewing a video from this channel. Makes me miss even more my best friend Duke who ran the road with me for 5 1/2 years of his six year life. He died way too young. He was truly the best 😞
Opie is showing signs of dysplasia in his right front leg. My GSD had signs in her hind legs. I've been giving her NOOTIE brand ADVANCED HIP & JOINT SOFT CHEWS from Amazon. I doubled the recommended amount and it was like magic how she responded. She plays with my younger GSD now, climbs the stairs to the deck and jumps into and out of the car. Losing some weight would help him to. My Vet says its best to show some waistline behind their rib cage. He's your buddy. Keep him healthy as he ages.
I loved seeing all those Kansas towns in the middle of the night. It's nice that there are still places where people sleep at night instead of being out getting into trouble.
Opie looks like he's having a real hard time walking he's like he's limping on the walk following you.
Kurt thanks you for showing us the old International, what a cool old truck. The first truck I drove in 1980 when I was just learning was a 1959 International, it had a 220 Cummins with a 5 speed main and a 3 speed browny. The seat was spring ride, when you hit a bump the springs would compress then try to eject you out through the cab. I will never forget that old truck, and the hood on it seemed like it was 50 feet long.
That's why we ride on the floor now, it's safer lol
Man he is a loyal dog. He's doing what he can and he'll keep doing what he can for you cuz he loves you you treated him well! I love that! Keep being you!!
As others have notated, it looks like the Internet says it’s a 1955 truck. You and Mr. Opie have a safe trip and great trucking.
That 1955 international is all over Reddit and TikTok 😮
I’ve never seen a hood that long before, thanks for sharing it
Mr. Schmidt, have you ever considered becoming a movie director?
Your video camera placements (compositions) are pretty darn good.
I owned a 57 West Coaster logging truck many, many years go. Looked just like that one. The 220 Cummins was replaced with a 335 Cummins. 5X4 trans.
+ Just had a genius idea 💡 for Opie's up and down the truck ; instead of stairs; a ramp ; four 2' X 3' sliding panels: when closed you carry them like a bag when in use you open them to form a ramp that the dog would just walk it up or down, no more jumping. Glued on fabric for traction. 😊
Now THAT was a hood ! Great 'ol Binder-I'm guessing mid 50's vintage-and yes-a rusty old soul would be the only one able to pilot that there big truck. Bet it is at least 2 if not a 3 stick-and did we mention how big the steering wheel is ?
I have a 1973 long nose Kenworth (dump truck/pup/belly dump/and on the weekends I hauled a walking floor trailer hauling peat moss from Canada to Oregon). I have since converted her to haul my LQ Horsetrailer. There is something special about these old girls loping down the road taking care of us. She still purrs;). Be safe and Love your truck! Classic at her best!
It's a 55, I talked to the guy in Port Arthur Texas one day, heck of a nice guy, years ago he had a pete that was red with the double sleeper thing
Slept like a baby. Does that mean you woke up wet or hungry every two hours? It's been such a crazy winter that the moles never quit working my yard. The ground never froze. I hope we don't pay for it later. 1958 would be the earliest for that truck style. Thanks for sharing the scenery. Safe travels. God bless.
I remember when i took my last load to Janesville,WI to the GM plant and seeing the assembly workers crying cause there plant was closing.I grew close to these people when i delivered there engines and transfer cases...just appreciate on what u have today cause theres no guarantee on where ur life will go..
Schmidt I hit the like button as normal, but today it doesn’t give us a number on the thumbs up.
Opie had the same look I give my better half when she tries kicking me out of bed lol.
Gosh dang hear that turbo? Like music to the ears
He seems like a very special puppy. Good people are animal friendly. You have great content, but your puppy is a bonus.
FYI-in the Truck Paper from Dec. 22 2023 there was an ad for a 1954 International 405-Cummins power-4speed main with a 4 speed aux-4.63 rears. He did adapt air leaf to it. It's down there in Iowa. Gorgeous ol girl.
What you do is one of my biggest dreams, nothing but me, a big rig, and the open road. I'd love to start my journey in trucking one day. I find the idea of long hours behind the wheel of a 18-wheeler very nice. I'd want to take someone, and possibly find me a doggie companion to keep me company around there so I don't truly get lonely. However I simply like the idea of driving trucks all day and night.
Opie is a beautiful pup.Hes getting a few years on him but he aint done yet!YOU are his bestest bud and always will be.
Definitely an early to mid 50's RD 405
I always loved creeping backroads, I found it relaxing. Stayed off the big roads as much as possible.
40k views in less than 24hrs. I didn’t realize how big you’ve grown even though I watch every upload. Congrats!
I’m late again, nice to see you guys together, opie looks like he is still hurting, give him a hug for all of us we feel like we know him to,so keep our adventure going, be safe
A other awesome video again.
I like the way you shift the gears that’s the way I shifted as well. It’s called true shift.. keep up with your videos
You know what they say about combines to fast for the corn fields to slow for the interstate
I saw that truck at a Loves in Lamar, CO. I was amazed and had no idea what i was looking at. Wish i woulda got some pictures.
Morning drivers no doubt. Fedex Linehaul here 8pm to 6-7am m-f
Thanks for the ride along. Glad your CB is working.... Hope Opie is feeling better. Safe travels & 🙏✌️❤️ to you both & the family & other critters. Pam
Kurt, in relation to Opies limp which maybe caused by arthritis, my vet. gave me some medicine for out 10 yr. old GSD and it was called Roomadoll. I believe that is the correct spelling. Lady took it for about 5yrs. and acted like a 5 yr. old, I could not keep up with her. Next time at the vet ask him about that medicine.
Have always heard if fog rises rain in three days. If it falls nothing will come. Also didn’t know they would sell one fried pie, I usually end up with a dozen! But the coconut, chocolate, and pecan all good choices.
Greetings Mr Kurt & Opie!!!! Safe Travels & SUPER SUCCESSFUL TRUCKIN!!!!!!😎🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊👍🏾🙌🏾🇺🇸🎥📹📽💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
1961 IH West Coaster I had one with a Detroit 12V71. I Used it a gin truck in the oil fields Great truck, wore the old sucker plumb out LONG time ago.
You can get help for Opie and his arthritis thru your vet. I think it was called Rimadyl and about a buck a pill thru my vet. Helped my 130lb. Dobie/Rottweiler alot.
I love the sound of the turbo whistling around the11min mark
I drove a 1953 International with a 250 Cummins once. That thing did not know speed but it would pull a mountain down.
I'm sure if you talk really, really sweet to your mom that she could stitch that step up better than ever for Opi
That fried apple pie looked delicious. How many did you buy? That was a cool looking old International. Thanks for identifying the towns and cities that you travel thru. I have been thru many of them. Safe travels. 😊
The reason the morning commute is crazier then evening because American people are always running late for work. A Japanese fellow told me that long ago. I tend to believe that as well.
Enjoy your videos and the company you get from the dog. Im long retired from the road, 1993 and had a small dog with me a couple times. The company of a dog is the best therapy. Mans best friend. That international that you seen was nice but not quite as old as you speculated. I have some black and white photos of a couple dad drove right after WWII.
Be safe out there and hope your dog treats you well.
Thanks for putting awesome content out. I look forward to seeing them.
that truck looks like what they called a west coaster around 1956 was the last of those cabs
Just wondering if you considered getting meloxicam for Opie. It's an arthritis medicine and just might take care of his painful joints.
There's an U-tube vid & interview of the custom OL SCHOOL trk that U saw @ the Love's trkstop a few yrs ago
Opie looks like he is having some trouble walking. Long time no see Opie Hopefully you get better.
Agree. Thought the same thing watching him walk. Maybe Opie needs a ramp to get in and out of the truck now.
German shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia as they get older is more evident so a little help in or out of the cab would greatly lessen injury to the hips and Opie would know you are helping.
Love those long hood W900s 👍👍👍
Hi Kurt & Opie, I guess the morning commuters are always in a hurry as they probably hit the snooze button one too many times and are running late. 😎🇬🇧
Well there you have it...A gallon of diesel at that flying J (24:03) is higher than a bushel of no 2 yellow corn delivered into Bartlett Grain Corp. in Council Bluffs, Ia. ($4.14)..:( :(
Such a good dog, the German! Love your videos brother, be safe, and God bless!
Thanks for the video trucking with Schmidt
I enjoy seeing that old metal on the highways and byways. Didn't happen often enough in years past, certainly not at all nowadays, retirement does that to me. For a while I drove an International 4300, might have been 1972 model, don't recall but it pulled pretty good with a 350 Cummins and a ten speed. Your W900 is a really decent semi, I do admire it and the way it's driven. Thanks for the really swell drive through mostly rural Kansas. Liked that a lot. Be well.
Thanks for sharing life on the road, your editing is amazing.
A other awesome video again, and that was a very nice golden oldie wow.
Hi Mr. Schmidt, As always just watching your videos and seeing how you enjoy everything you do on the road while you´re driving and videoing, greetings from Dolores Hidalgo Guanajuato México.
Don’t change, love your presentation.
Enjoyed the night ride. Brings back a lot of memories for this old guy.
I seen him a few days ago heading NB out of NM i was heading south that old truck gets around.
i saw that same truck in new mexico. older guy that looks like santa drives it. i saw him change his fuel filters and when he was done ,just threw everything on the ground.
Living in New England, it is just a dream to think of sun and warmth.
I love your channel for calming and relaxing videos.
I'm not a trucker, dream of it sometimes.
You channel helps so much.
The question of the day is "How does Opie feel about a moon lander being named after him? I think he might get a swelled head and will have to start signing autographs
I think unless you're from that part of the country you really can't see the sheer beauty of the plains. Oh, it's really not as flat as people think. Great presentation.
Great video SCHIMDT as usual. 🥧👍🏻.
🐕🦺 B SAFE
🚛💨💨💨💨
Opie is so beautiful. Glad you treat him like a king he deserves every bit of it. I’ve had several dogs throughout my life and one of the favorite ones was a German shepherd. Happy trails you two.
Im happy u have Opie.
opie looks like he is limping pretty good on his left front paw. have a great ride today.
You almost looked you had a harder time getting up Opi. Keep trucking.
My family had a hard freeze January 15 that lasted a week. Now the crocuses are coming up. Hope they can make it to April without another freeze. You and Opie have safe travels.
You and Opie make a great team. Love hanging out with you guys
2 LARGECAR K-DUBBS @ the Picnic Park was EPIC
That international is for sure the definition of old school trucking👍👍👍 you and Opie roll easy sir. 🇺🇲
Thanks for the ride! But I didn't think we were ever going to get out of Kansas lol! It's like Ontario....once your in you can't get out:)
Man I love to see this man's love for dogs ! Somebody who feels strong about dogs and animals. Is somebody who I can stand with! Thank you man!!!

Just caught one of Your Posts -- Grew-up on Diesel Fuel
LOVE Opie !! ❤
We camped E. of the feed lots outside of Dodge City once on a MC trip to Durango. Once you get used to the smell, it’s still bad!
Smells like money.
nice ride. thank you. opie made me subscribe!
That is a beautiful vintage truck and still earns it’s keep. Thanks for sharing this 🇺🇸👍 looks like a late 40’s early 50’s RDF-405 west coaster
I enjoyed your viedo, taking the time trip through Kansas. I really like your tr.truck and dog.
There is nothing else in the world quite like a good dog. They are amazing animals.
I miss having a real truck, where im at we can't even request a manual been there a long time and they get me home but my first truck was a w900 back when werner had em w900 will always be my favorite truck
Another awesome video Kurt
🍭SWEET🍭Wow! Thanks for sharing that old International rig. I’m sure my dad worked on ones like that. He was a diesel mechanic for United Van Lines out of Riverside California. I remember him complaining about working on those “dog gone Internationals”!! LOL😂 He was a Mack/Peterbilt man. His boss had a few Internationals in his fleet. This was back in the 50’s, 60’s. He retired in 1976. God Bless🙏🏼💖👍🏻🌞
I live in Reno NV, I met the driver at the love's in tonapah Nevada it's a 1962 international with a custom double sleeper with a 5x4 transmission, 5 main and 4 auxiliary making it w 20speed transmission didn't ask about the engine
Really good video! I retired in 2015 from 38 years cross country…3 time owner operator until I finally woke up the third time to the fact I could make a really good living driving for a company and not have all the financial headaches. Been a long time since I was able to gander down a long hood, so, I thank you! Safe travels my friend and God bless! ~Jim in Houston,Texas~
Thanks for the video
Re: Opie. We have a furry friend, small boy, that had similar joint issues like Okies, put him on pet oriented Glucosamine/ Chondroitin and, limping stopped. He’s a Shi Tzu/ Pomeranian mix. Just a suggestion.
I don’t believe that Pete was a long hood? International was a 50’s model.
That cobra 29 sure looks good on the dash of that w9!!
Kurt You know any leather workers…they can sew that rip in stairs back up easy in a few minutes. Stop by great falls, Montana and I can fix it for you. Enjoying the video have a safe day!
