- Bone tissue is so much more than the frame that we hang out muscles from. It also makes blood cells (what’s called hematopoiesis), is constantly remodeling bone, and produces hormones. In this video, we’ll go over basic bone anatomy and the physiology behind those three processes.

Hi, I’m Patrick. I’m a freelance science writer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and a master’s in clinical exercise physiology. I used to work in the clinical setting as a certified athletic trainer, physical therapy aide, and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. After working in the clinical setting, I went back to school and became a teacher. The goal of my content is to help normal people, not just pre-med students, learn about the human body. That might mean explaining a topic from an anatomy class or exploring a topic from medical history.

This video is definitely an osteoBLAST, very good video or osteoSITE(osteocyte) to refer to for COLLEGen(collagen) students, its an endocrime to be this good, very nice :)
ALICE! The pun master is BACK in the comments section!
I am really impressed, I think I need to bone up on my puns now, I think I am a bit too marrow minded in my creativity. How many times did you testes puns before posting? That's enough out of me, ovary and out.
"Have fun, be good, and thanks for watching."
What a great sign-off! Patrick I love your channel and appreciate the production value you put into each video. I have begun using them as a supplement for my kinesiology students and they love them as well! Engaging and informative, two things every instructor should strive for. Thanks for leading the way in this regard as kinesiology professors around the world make the leap into online content creation this semester.
Ohh my gosh, thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it! If there are any topics you'd like me to cover, feel free to email me at patkellyteaches (at) gmail
All of the cool stuff bone does has always made me think, “Why doesn’t Wolverine suffer from chronic anemia(s)? Or die from hypovolemia after injury? How does he fight off infection?”
That....is a question I never considered before
Great video. Youve put the origin of the words, papers to support your data, and the the way the content is laid is pure genius. Asante🙏🏿
I don’t know if it was purposeful, but I really appreciate the inclusive language you used when talking about hormones. 😊
Confirmed, it was purposeful 🙌
Awesome video, super helpful! THANK YOU!
I have already studied all of these and yet you explain in it a way that makes the information fit into place *just right* while adding bits and pieces I have not learned before ! Absolutely love your channel :) !
That's the best compliment I could ask for. Thank you, and happy learning!
I'm in high school, and I watch all of your videos because they are way more interesting than my school courses at the moment!
Well thank you!
Interesting!
Great video man!
Glad you liked it!
You are just amazing
Hi! I am a nursing student and online classes is giving me a hard time. Your channel helped me a lot and those memory devices worked for me and my classmates.
I'm so glad to hear that! Best of luck with online classes
Woow never fail to impress 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
So straight forward and yet so complete u r bcming my fav teacher a lot of respect and love from pakistan
Thank you, that means a lot :)
If I had a biology teacher like Patrick Kelly at school I would certainly not have become a lawyer, but rather a biology teacher's husband.
Financially, you made a much wiser decision
Corporis one finds late on ones career that money is not reason enough to endure being a corporate lawyer.
@@salgadovalerio after 38 years as a divorce atty. I am taking A&P and Micro bio. to apply to nursing school. . .
@@umadianewanger3263 fantastic! It’s never too late for a second career, my brother started Med school at 37 (formerly engineer). But I joke when I say I don’t like law, I have a love/hate relationship! Haha
Very fascinating. I am interested in human anatomy although I am not a med student.
Awesome video! I worked for several years in Biotech teaching the diagnostics of hemotologic cancers. I'd love to see a deeper dive into hematopoiesis and how malignancies arise in various levels of cell differentiation. It was always fascinating to me how 3 patients, all diagnosed with CLL would have vastly different prognoses based on their individual genetic aberrations. PT1: p53 mutation? We need to put you on chemotherapy immediately. PT2: +12 CLL? Well, it's OK, so let's wait and see. PT3: del13q? We'll see you after your vacation next week.
Another subscriber requested a deeper dive on malignancies. That's beyond me for now, so I might have to bring on a researcher friend for a guest video
awesome
Much appreciated, thank you!
I haven't gotten through the video yet, but I'd be interested in knowing more about what happens to bones when someone has cancerous bone metastases.
So would I
Hmmm, that topic might not be the best match for me, but I might be able to bring on a friend to explain it better
The skeletal system is the body system composed of bones and cartilage and performs the following critical functions for the human body:
supports the body.
facilitates movement.
protects internal organs.
produces blood cells.
stores and releases minerals and fat
Very informative and good video
Thank you very much
Glad it was helpful!
Nice videos what about one on staining
Great suggestion. I've wanted to cover that topic for a while, but I'd rather film the process on-location instead of show you all with stock photography. If you know anyone in the SF Bay Area who could help, I'd be happy to get in touch!
@@Corporis Unfortunately I am student studying Histology in Zimbabwe
Bone is best
You should watch Cells At Work. It’s a show about the human body and it’s on Netflix.
Ohh dude. I know Cells At Work. Go check out "Dr Hope's Sick Notes" -- he has an entire series reacting to that show
Thanks for the recommendation Mr. Kelly!
To me this is my hardest chapter so far😭
You got this!
Hi it’s Andreas brother
