Karl used to laugh loads in the first season of XFM, and he actually had some quite funny and insightful things to say. I still don't think he plays a part exactly, but I think being around Ricky all the time one must learn to take a back seat in the jokes, dumb down a bit and play the stooge - it's probably just easier top cope with him that way. Massive fan of Ricky and I think he's a lovely man, but there's no doubt he must be incredibly annoying to be with for any length of time.
I absolutely agree with you. People are always like, "this is a con, it's all put on," and other people are like "no it's 100% unscripted." I believe it's somewhere in the middle. Yes, they developed Karl's "character" a bit, but it's _not_ scripted. I do think Ricky told Karl not to laugh (later on) because he's far more funnier when he keeps a straight face/attitude. I think ahead of time Ricky said to Karl, just keep going no matter what we say or how we laugh at you, and Karl plays that role a bit. But it's a role based on his actual personality. In the XFM days Karl sometimes got frustrated & would walk out or stop talking, and he did laugh quite a bit. Obviously his reactions have been crafted a little. And I also agree with you about Ricky - I'm a big fan but I'm sure spending a day with him would be *_exhausting._* I have an uncle like him (ironically also named Ricky) & it's always just non-top pranks, he's loud, laughs at everything...
***** Yes. As Ricky puts it time and time again when talking about how he treats his friends: "you can fleece a sheep many times but you can only kill it once." I suspect you're right - pre-show, there would be little planning, but suggestions like "we'll talk about those big-headed lads again, tell the story again, and there'll be some pisstaking from me and Steve, just take it like a good little round-headed twat, alright?" I feel a bit sad that he seems to have left Steve and Karl behind somewhat, it was a brilliant dynamic while it lasted.
@@odhrangallagher5738 I love both Karl Pilkington and Christopher Hitchens so I've naturally perked up at this question. What made you ask this specifically, if you don't mind me asking? I once heard some obscure Karl interview where he actually mentioned the Hitch and said he listened to him speaking and he couldn't get over how a person could speak so clearly and articulate what they mean as good as that. Karl's not wrong.
@@LifeOfRy I asked the question because the OP's profile picture is an image of Christopher Hitchens. That's really interesting that Karl mentioned him once in an interview, do you have any idea where it was he said that?
I've just went through a hard breakup where I found out my girlfriend cheated on me. Karl really does help depression, the guy can make anyone happy. He has saved many lives!
I think I might've gone past the same Kellogg's Karl mentions-when I worked in Manchester for a while, I cycled past a site near Queen's road. All you could smell was cooking cereal in the air.
i once so a gang of boys and i thought they was going to rough me up so i pretendedto limp as i passed them thinking they have to be a right lot of losers if they started somthing.
+zedooncadhz True. Sadly I have no clue how to adjust the volume levels, otherwise I would have done that when I uploaded these. And you know whose job it was to produce the show, including volume levels? (hint: he's a bald Manc whose name starts with "K") :D
Karl said "nice to meet you Kenn Dodd" After watching some episodes of the xfm radio podcasts he said that his dad said the exact same thing Karl said. So is he an actor?

Amazing how much happier and more animated Karl was in the early days.
Ricky and Steve have probably exhausted him XD Bless him.
I love when you can hear him starting to lose laugh whenever he knows he's said something stupid! xD
So good to hear Karl laugh
James Dixon yeah how come he stopped for the podcast?
I like how steve is honest and calls hom brave for not giving up his shoes. Karl is real g
The way these stories just unravel is amazing
"It went down such a storm". One of my favourite KP lines
Awwe Karl laughing makes life seem so much brighter
"I worked hard for these, HOW DARE YOU!"
Hahaha!!!!
So true though.
+Gromit Pesley exactly. someone better be knockin me out to get my shoes off me
Almost died at that part sooo funny
I love the Morrissey pic!
I think Karl is kind of cute! Everyone says he's odd looking but i think he has this adorable quality about him!
I lost it when gervais did the alien "oggie oggie oggie" thing hahahah
good to hear Karl himself laughing a little at his own stories and their comments- doesnt happen that often :)
The last bit he was talking about, I was like poor Karl.
Aw, Karl laughing at the end :)
good to hear
If I had a time machine, I would go back and just observe and document the life of Karl and film it in UHD :D

A trip around Kellogg's. So random.
Kellogg’s factory is close to where Karl lived
It was difficult listening to this with Ricky's voice so loud
The plight of the Ricky Gervais show listener.
“It went down such a storm” 😂😂
I love that Ricky laughs at the use of the word "crook" lol
I've just went through a hard breakup where I found out my girlfriend cheated on me. Karl really does help depression, the guy can make anyone happy. He has saved many lives!
There are actually tears down my face after listening this XD !!
"OZORRRTT OGGIE OGGIE OGGIE!!!!"
you are such a sweetheart :) And you have no idea how happy that makes me.
aww thankyou! You are a sweetheart for uploading this ! Thankyou so much! It made me exhausted laughing so much at this video XD
I also cried of laughter at this part 😂😂😂
When life gets you down listen to Karl Pilkington
Ricky keep on laughing .ignore all those ignoramus sour grape people.I find your laugh quite endearing and it brightens my day.
I think what’s happening is that the sound level for Carl is much lower than Rickys
The new Dr. Seuss book, “The Twat in the Hat”, in bookstores now. Good read.
"There was a what in the hall?" Love it.
Thanks so much for this mate :D
i love the Ken Dodd and Loch Ness Monster stories ;)
I think I might've gone past the same Kellogg's Karl mentions-when I worked in Manchester for a while, I cycled past a site near Queen's road. All you could smell was cooking cereal in the air.
I wish I could go back and see Karl's upbringing. The joy it would bring.
Though, the horrors too.
definitely an early recording, karl laughs and ricky and steve are being nice
The eyes of danger
i lost my shit at "There was a WHAT in the hall?"
Why is Karl's mic so low? It sounds like the Ricky Screech Show.
because his set his mix lower than gervaises..
He was only the producer on this show so his microphone would have been set up differently
Its great to hear Karl laugh as he says these stories, sounds more human
I’ve been mugged in picadilly gardens. It’s a ritual you have to go through if you live in Manchester.
10:54 one of my favourite xfm moments of all time.
OGGY OGGY OGGY!!!
I'm obviously alone in this but i think he's kind of cute!
you are absolutely not alone
Who waits around half an hour for water to go down a drain?! LOL
Karl. That's who. xD
Ricky’s laugh cracks me up
OZORT!!!!! OGGIE OGGIE OGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice to meet you Ken :-)
11:15 That's the biggest Karl laugh I've ever heard!
Karl's real laugh at 11:13
stuck in a printer
Sound how my brother goes to the school Karl went to
Not Ces Ave?! x
Brilliant!
haha yea, One of his best qualities saying what he thinks no matter if he knows he may get in trouble for it/offend people :P
Ty for uploading :)
11:14 most I’ve heard Karl laugh
BEER AND THIS good combo
yes yes yessssdsdsdsd
Ricky and Steve say that he's odd looking.I don't think he's odd looking.I told him he should smile more. He's really cute when he smiles!
wendy ledere that’s rich coming from those two ugly cunts
god is it just coincidence ricky and steves voice is deafening karl you can hardly hear what a surprise
i once so a gang of boys and i thought they was going to rough me up so i pretendedto limp as i passed them thinking they have to be a right lot of losers if they started somthing.
oh my god !!! KARL WAS LAUGHING !!!
Why does no one bring up a comparison with HIGNFY? Hislop as the educated one saying "normal" things and Merton saying batshit crazy stuff
Ricky is way too loud compared to Karl :@
+zedooncadhz True. Sadly I have no clue how to adjust the volume levels, otherwise I would have done that when I uploaded these. And you know whose job it was to produce the show, including volume levels?

+orth82 You'd have to split the clip every time each person talks and tweak the volume, usually with a volume audio effect
+hsswutee yeah just throw the whole thing in a daw free one even like audacity highlight it all and hit compression..
+orth82 and it didn't help that Ricky Gervais is very loud when laughing
orth82 it’s called bridging the audio don’t let the sound get to high or too low
Turn on "English captions"
It's the funniest thing you will ever read
Oh yeah I saw old 'Doddy' and he looks ughhh :)
Holy crap, Just googled him >.>
awww karl as a kid >_
Kenn Dodd made some great music in the 60s!
Karl did say he wasn't a good looking fella.. he wasn't kidding! :))
Oggy oggy oggy 😂
Most welcome :)
p.s. Just did google image search on Ken Dodd. Good God... o.O lol!
lol Karl Pilkington Is Awesome ^.^
I totally agree with you, Wendy. Karl is definitely a cutie! :)
Yeah... He tells the same stories but with different details all the time
Do you have cameras over there?
He looks like an old timey prospector.
Karl said "nice to meet you Kenn Dodd" After watching some episodes of the xfm radio podcasts he said that his dad said the exact same thing Karl said. So is he an actor?
Good god...
Got mugged for $3 once.
Watch him as he looks at the kids with the webbed hands and the big 'eds... just staring in confusion.
oggy oggy oggy
oi oi oi
I wish i could mute Ricky Gervais's laugh sometimes.
how is everything in karl's life so funny
This was before they got too mean and disrespectful to Karl, can tell his mood is much higher
Karl laughing :D
which XFM show is the first anecdote from?!! I have all of them but I don't recognise it
***** Yeah, this is way too long to be a radio show.
Good pics karl, u look good, no homo
Karl sounds a little like Noel Gallagher at times (Yes , I know they are from the same place) .
Sounds like Karl is smiling. sounds weird but you can tell
Special K man
XFM
Is Karl in another room?
TheBusterMan Just talks quietly
He is the producer of the show he is on a separate room with a glass screen facing Ricky and steve
11:05 is actually they did it as a joke
Mic imbalance again
On one podcast he says it's him that says "allright ken" and on another he says it's his dad that says it. Must be onley nerd to pick up on that
‘Try and avoid the twat in the hat’
Is he saying he worked at kelloggs???
He went there on a school trip once.
1:21 Where did Karl say he was in Manchester?
+Chris Lehman piccadilly gardens
+Chris Lehman Piccadilly Gardens
OI OI OI
Karl laughing .. this is weird
Scruffy Sandra.
Ricky's unbalanced laugh spoils the show. Karl's 'flat' delivery is funny - laughing is not funny.
Bob Loosemore false. without ricky's laugh Karl would not be funny. Karl exists because Ricky found him funny and used him
+Thom Green "without ricky's laugh Karl would not be funny"
You're an idiot, man. He's naturally way funnier than Ricky and Ricky says as much.
more loose again. they go hand in hand. its like a cue laugh in a bad sitcom excpet its genuine so its brilliant
I've just went through a hard breakup where I found out my girlfriend cheated on me. Karl really does help depression, the guy can make anyone happy. He has saved many lives!
+Greig Main I totally second that. The K-man helped me through a tough breakup too. I guess laughter really is the best medicine sometimes :)
I So Agree with you both,my partner and I listen around 5times a week. Especially if I've had a Crap day, these guys Make my Day. Love all 3of em.
She's still in your profile picture, get a new picture.
Bro thats a dude in my picture hahahaha
Greig Main Oh, my bad.
