Thanks for your honesty, Tom. Seems like a ton of work just to get these where they should be from the factory- aluminum foil, expanded metal to hold charcoal, and a couple of folks reporting bad fans.
So Tom, why don't you buy a few of these grills, put all the mods and replacement parts in them, and sell to us for $1500. I'll buy one :D. You need to send these videos to masterbuilt so they can understand how to make a quality grill. Great video again.
Ok, you my friend need to design your own grill and build it (or contact one of these manufacturers to do it for you). Another great mod video, looks like a big improvement!!!
Can't find that gasket on Amazon. Do you have a link? Masterbuilt does not sell that gasket, and their customer service is kinda nonexistent. My gasket was damaged and I need to repair it. 😢
Thanks for Watching Chris, couple of years ago….I think this is it…www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CJE1G7Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My gasket cracked after 2 weeks. Contacted MB, had to follow 2 times on the status of the gasket replacement. MB said the gasket came with the grill, and replacements gaskets would be in July.
I have a different problem, the top rivet on the lid latch catch (the black hook attached to the piece you are working on) has popped. It latches, but bends the hook down. Think JB weld would hold this or should I try to punch it out and screw it somehow?
I wonder if the Lavalock gaskets that WSM owners have used for years would be applicable with this Masterbuilt. Its definitely more economical. Your thoughts?
Interesting mod. I finally subscribed so I won't miss your test. Did you consider using the Lavalock tadpole gasket. It is about 1/2 the price. It is fibreglass without a silicone coating. I saw some people comment that they had used the flat adhesive Lavalock and later removed it because it was soaking up moisture and then dripping into the hopper. I can see where the silicone would be better if moisture is really an issue.
Its and awesome cooker! Could be built better, but overall not bad. The once in while bbq will work just fine and get 3-5 years out of it. If your more serious and store outside 2-3 years with some maintenance. Thanks for Watching!
i have had my 1050 leaking smoke from the chimney. I was looking at doing this mod as well, but was curious, have you had any issues with the 500 degree seal? Should i look for something that has a higher temperature capacity? Also, have you had any issues with the smoker having grease running down the legs from the cook chamber?

Thanks for Watching! I appreciate your comments and support!
Thanks, for looking out for us. Taking notes. My MB 1050 is arriving Monday. Thinking of doing these mods before use.
Thanks for Watching! Congrats on the new Grill!
I was wondering if you were going to end up changing those gaskets. I think you did the right thing.
Thanks Mike! Time will tell
You da man Tom! Thank you for the input ! Exactly what I needed to do .
Thanks for Watching Chris!
Hopper and ash pan door assembles include the gasket and are about fifteen bucks each. It did take two months to get it.
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the feedback
Hello Tom, any update on whether you like that gasket or not? Id like to change my gaskets too but looking for best to get the job done.
Thanks for watching! Worked very well
Where you find 1000 deg blue paint 🤔 I cant find it 🤔
Thanks for Watching! Try an auto part store, engine paint

Thanks for Watching! Lol! I’m sure MB doesn’t appreciate these videos, if they did they would’ve responded to my e-mails
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ They are probably trying to get RUclips to banned these videos. Hahahahaha
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ this gasket change is just a total waste of time and money..Not necessary at all.. Plus the red gasket is ugly ..lol

Thanks for watching! Maybe call MB customer service you shouldn’t need to fix it

Thanks for watching! The reason I chose this one because it will handle the moisture better than the fabric type

I'm thinking about getting one for my channel. But I've heard quite a few issues with them. Honestly, how has yours been?

Tom I bet you use to take stuff apart when you were a kid. LOL
Thanks for Watching Tim! Yes I did!

Thanks for watching! Keeping the cooker level is the key to the grease issue. The gasket I used is working at all temps
You know I Love My Stainless! 😁 Metal On! \m/
Thanks Kent!
