This song was never supposed to be aired. It was written to tease the lead singers brother on his birthday about his first time with a girl. The brother had a stuttering problem. Their record producer who was at the party said you have to record it. They said well we can clean it up and get rid of the stutter. The producer said no. To record it as it was. And now it is a classic.
Actually, their producer said to take out the stuttering part before they could record it and told Randy to sing it the normal way. After hearing it, it just didn't sound the same, so he said scratch that idea and lets do it with the stuttering lyrics. It was recorded that way and the rest is history..
@@BobSoltis1 Not wrong at all. I meant to say Manager and not Producer. So what? Point is, it was tried in both versions and there was a reason behind the stuttering version being recorded instead.

Bachman Turner Overdrive or BTO is a Canadian band named for the members, Brothers Randy, Robbie and Tim Bachman and Fred Turner. Randy, Robbie and Fred all sing in the group and all have great rock voices. Tim and Robbie both passed away last year 2023, RIP. Randy is on lead in this song. This song was an afterthought and was not originally going to be included in this album. It was done as a joke because his brother had a stutter. Rock musicians have adding stuttering to their songs for years, from John Lee Hooker’s 1953 “Stuttering Blues”, to The Who’s 1965 “My G-g-g-generation”, and this. Classic! Randy Bachman was a member of “The Guess Who”. Bachman Turner Overdrive is a Canadian band from Winnipeg.

I was on a big BTO kick when I was 13-14. In fact, my first HS girlfriend bought me the BTO album FOUR WHEEL DRIVE in 1974 at the end of my freshman year as a going away present (My family moved to a city 6 hours away, and there goes my first love). She was such a cute hottie...and I later found out that she ended up being voted Homecoming Queen for Senior Year of the HS I would have graduated from). Anyway, loved my BTO back then. Couple of brothers in the band. They were really hot for about 3-4 years. This is from their 1974 album “Not Fragile”. Check out “Rock is My Life, This is My Song”, “Not Fragile” and “Roll on Down the Highway” and then “Four Wheel Drive” and “Hey You” from their 1975 album “Four Wheel Drive”

Great Reaction! I know that a lot of younger people are convinced that we Boomers really messed up the world, but can we at least get some credit for the FANTASTIC MUSIC of the 60's/70's that would not have existed without us?? (Just sayin'). Actually, I really enjoy watching younger people truly enjoying and appreciating the music of my generation. Good music is timeless. I always enjoy your reaction videos and I look forward to seeing more.
The stutter - was a homage to his brother - who did stutter. He grew up with a stuttering brother - and was just used to it as an everyday part of of his life - and put the pattern into a song.
Now that there is a full sounding outfit. Sounds like more than just 4 dudes BTO was a force to rekon with just as Grand Funk were❤️🤘roll on down the highway is tasty
'Takin Care Of Business' was probably BTO's biggest song. You Aint Seen Nothing Yet, and Let It Ride were also pretty big. Randy Bachman and brothers Tim and Robbie Bachman joined forces with Fred Turner to form this band. Randy had a pretty good pedigree having been a founding member of The Guess Who. He wrote many of the Guess Who songs as did lead vocalist /keyboardist Burton Cummings. I just watched Burton play about hours ago, it was fantastic. Two years ago Burton and Randy played here and did all sorts of Guess Who hits, BTO hits and some of Burton's solo hits. That was a great night too. The best time I have seen them was about fifteen years ago, when the original Guess Who did a tour. Their opening act was Joe Cocker. What a night.
Randy Bachman did a 16-year run on CBC radio with his program This is Vinyl Tap. It was cancelled in 2022, but it was brilliant! He’ was picked up by syndicated radio to do the same thing.
One of my favorite bands of the 70s. Check out "Taking Care of Business" and "Let It Ride." They're from Canada and were formed by 3 brothers, Randy, Robbie and Tim Bachman.
A neighbor of mine had the car and the '8 Track' of this we wore it out. BTO and Steely Dan come back to me quick. Great time to be a kid turning in to an adult... You're so right about the music '70's. So much came out and we just took it as normal. As time went on, we realize how lucky we were for the music then. SO much in late '60's, 70's and they even kept on producing into the early '80's.
Randy Bachman is on tour and still sounds great. They are from my home town of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Also from Winnipeg are The Guess Who, Neil Young, Monty Hall of Let’s Make a Deal, Len Cariou of Blue Bloods. His brother had a stutter and Randy was teasing him
You’re right the 70s was fire. I was a teenager in the 70s and I wouldn’t have wanted to be a teenager any other time! We had the best music and the best cars
I saw BTO in a church basement in West Virginia in the early 70s. Somebody who somehow had access thought this would be a nice band for the church’s youth group. I was there from Michigan visiting cousins and was the only one of us (I was about 12-13) who had ever heard of BTO. Well, they about blew the roof off the joint - from the basement. It was shocking to most of the people there and a lot of fun! I had so many of their albums growing up and loved most of the tracks on most of the albums. This was a great band over a long period of time.
Great song by BTO.Randy Bachman and Fred Turner had a lot of very good songs. The line up here is Randy Bachman lead vocals and rytym guitar,Fred Turner, bass and backing vocals,Robbie Bachman on drums and backing vocals and Blair Thornton on lead guitar.Fred Turner sings lead on many of their songs with Randy playing lead guitar on a lot of them. They became famous in 1974 when the rock station that I grew up with KSHE in St.Louis invited them to play an outdoor concert there. After that a lot more stations in the US started playing their songs. They were a great rock band to see back then.
The stutter was on purpose. See THE WHO, MY GENERATION. Check out ROLL ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. There were 2 BACHMAN BROTHERS in the band, and the bass player was named Turner, so they came up with Bachman Turner Overdrive.
Biggest song "Takin' Care of Business", My Fave pure rocker "Roll on down the Highway" and sung by other singer Turner, great solo by Randy Bachman. RB was a feature member of the Guess Who before BTO.
This was always one of my favorite songs! I really wish somebody would do it justice and make it over. I think revamping it for present day would appeal to a lot of people.
@@eurofritz4617 To put a different spin on it. A different arrangement, maybe like a Linkin Park/club style??? I just think this generation would vibe with it, because the hook and lyrics are transferable. I was born in 1971, but still appreciate new stuff. I could actually see this type of song playing in a gentleman's club lol
@@Dawnofcreation I did up a quick "nu-metal" cover of the song and then did another with a "club beat". I kinda like the club beat version lol and will probably try another run at the song when I have more time. Check them out and let me know what you think.

Reminds me of my brother. RIP Craig.
The stutter is for his brother. Speaking of brothers....Statler Brothers, Everly Brothers, Bellamy Brothers, and Blues Brothers
Righteous Brothers (I know), but neither are the Blues Brothers.
Statler brothers weren't brothers either.
@howardwhite5131 well, two were brothers, just not named Statler.
You've just scratched the surface of 70's rock music. Most every group you have done have about a dozen hits each, and probably 150 or so good bands and artists there's at least 4000 possible songs.
I’m an Aussie and never even knew that there was a thing called blue grass gospel. If this was played in churches and these’christian’ Grammy’s thing you guys have got going on over there now, instead of whatever ever the trash that’s celebrated now America would be a whole different place than it is today. Thanx guys I really needed this gem today!
Wow, this brings back memories from a roadtrip with my Dynamite 8 and a new BTO 8Track.
It was sang with a stutter in honor of Bachman's brother, Glen, that did indeed stutter. So you were pretty on point BP.
BTO in the house!!! CLASSIC FEEL GOOD SONG!! PLAYLIST?? ABSOLUTELY!! BEEN ON MINE FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS!!!😊😊😊
The1960 to the early 70 s was the best time for music 😊
I heard his brother stutters and he was teasing him then decided to keep it in the song. It was a big hit
BTO takes me back...more memories....walking the fairgrounds with great tunes playing, and the concerts....
BTO!!! Great band!! Golden Earring Radar Love is fire too!! Don't listen to it when driving unless you want a speeding ticket lol!!
A certifiable classic.
BTO, 'Let it ride' vocals by bassist Fred Turner. Gotta listen
Yes, let it ride
BT F'in O. As a 1988 high school grad this song comes on the party gets a little more live.
BTO was in Minnesota doing a concert with Pat Benatar about a week ago. Amazing they are all still doing shows!!! Rock On!!!
His brother had a stutter and Randy was teasing him
Ain't it great when you hear a band just make a great song and sound. The drummer is a banger.
I love it and I'm from the 70s
You’re right the 70s was fire. I was a teenager in the 70s and I wouldn’t have wanted to be a teenager any other time! We had the best music and the best cars
"Roll On" is definitely one youre gonna wanna check out.. As a previously touring artist, you should get the sentiment immediately.
Takin" Care of Business is probably their biggest hit
This was always one of my favorite songs! I really wish somebody would do it justice and make it over. I think revamping it for present day would appeal to a lot of people.
were you thinking same rock style or something else?
@@eurofritz4617 To put a different spin on it. A different arrangement, maybe like a Linkin Park/club style??? I just think this generation would vibe with it, because the hook and lyrics are transferable. I was born in 1971, but still appreciate new stuff. I could actually see this type of song playing in a gentleman's club lol
@@Dawnofcreation I did up a quick "nu-metal" cover of the song and then did another with a "club beat". I kinda like the club beat version lol and will probably try another run at the song when I have more time. Check them out and let me know what you think.
