You know, as a country boy who moved to the City many years ago, I'd forgotten some of the many life experiences I had growing up as a kid, on the farm in the Ozark Mountains. You and Hannah have brought back many of these memories. Now, I'm an old man and physically can't do much of what you're doing today but I want to thank you both for working hard to bring folks a little taste of a life, for me anyway, that I truly miss. I wish I lived in a "little house" back in the woods on your property somewhere. You wouldn't have to worry about making those late night phone calls to set them hog traps. You and Hannah could sleep the night away. I would take the Night Shift for you. Stay Safe, Stay Well.

Jeff I really like the creativity of re-purposing things. I have a neighbor that fenced his yard with the slabs left from sawing used telephone poles. He saws up the used poles into lumber and sells it as treated lumber. Great idea i think. Also a great way to get rid of things like used cross ties and used light poles besides burning them. Have you already jumped to 23,000 subscribers ? If so this looks like a real winner for you. Thanks for your time. And remember to talk to the camera. LOL

Another great idea for those slabs instead of rotting away. Nice hog trap. Used to make chicken coops out of them too with the same sliding door scheme to keep them locked in at night. Also used to make and sell yard and camp chairs or furniture out of them. Easy chairs fit to size was easy. Cut a rectangle horizontally at the thick end centered, and a male-like insert from another slab to make the seat part that just slips in the hole and can be easily taken apart too. The wider the bottom slab foot is less wobble for the old folks to deal with. Nice high back chairs to sit in. There's a ton of things they can be used for. Now ya just gotta get Hannah to find that slab and board stretcher for you. Chuckle. TY you for taking the time and effort to make these videos for us all out here. This old man really enjoys them all.

Jeff that pile of pine slabs looks like a gold mine of camping camp fire wood. Guess it'd all depend on if there was a willing campground around y'all and how much it'd cost you in time to cut and bundle to make it worth your time. My minds spinning ideas on how to build a machine that'll automatically cut a stack of slabs into 18" pieces and then bundle them into 10 or 12 piece bundles to roast dogs or make Smores over!!! :-)

Love your videos. I had a 91 toyota for 17 years. Fixed the rust real good once. It lasted 5 years after that. Had 241,000 miles..Wouldn't pass inspection with the rust and bottom end of motor was going out. Miss my truck so much.
I use sawmill slabs - I get for free - for fire wood in my 100 yr old wood fired cook stove . This was my mother's great great grandfather 's stove , as you said mix the ashes in the compost pile , garden gold.

Would be a lot stronger, but as a carpenter he was thinking like a carpenter and was thinking aesthetic instead of strength. Simple mistake but don't hold it against him, i dont.
I'd bet a cold beer or two that the last thing Jeff was thinking was to make an aesthetically pleasing hog trap. It has to be 100% functional, not look like a Hog Holiday Inn... haha I agree it'd be stronger if the side boards were fastened to the inside at the corners, the only problem is you'd have to double up the corner posts as you wouldn't be able to fasten two sides to the inside of a single corner post. Kinda hard to describe online.
You building it to keep them in or Out? Just my experience but when Dad and I build a hog fence the Boards or Panels were on the inside of the post so the boards or panels were pushed against the post and not against the screws. Hogs are strong and would push the screws right out of the post or split the boards on the out side of the post. Also the bark on the inside of the pen would be less scary to the Hawgs. But BUDDY that WORKED. All that matters Jeff. Keep up the Awesome videos. Thanks for all your Info and content
Takes some skill to think about that door. Lot of little things to think about. Will you need any bracing on the door so they don't knock it out of whack or get out? I'm thinking about what that big boar did to your wire trap and digging that hole. LOL!! 🤔👍
Would some grease on the gate edges help prevent binding and water issues? Or would the hogs sense the odor of the grease and avoid it? The slabs on the outside with only screws holding it make it look weak compared to slabs on the inside. So maybe add some vertical slabs to the outside as well to sandwich the horizontal slabs using longer screws to spread out the pressure. Or maybe run some wire around the joints to reinforce the lower joints that will be hit the hardest. Catching hogs is real fun to watch. Keep it up the fight! And good eating.
We build ours out of oak 1x6 and treated 2x4s. Make em 6ft high and anywhere from 9x9 to 12x12. They will climb out we put boards down both sides of ours.

I bet you could make a rabbit box type trigger to drop the gate once you get them coming in the trap on a regular basis .

More interested in making it look natural a 3rd board on the outside middle would help it a chicken wire wrap.

Some of those pieces would be cool on the outside of a tiny cabin. So it looks like a log cabin
