My grandmother brought me up on video games with Super Mario Bros. 3 being the first I played and had a first memory of. Years later, she quit playing because how many buttons were introduced with the SNES but enjoyed me playing next gen Super Mario games but she HATED this game lol. Every time I would get hit and she would hear Mario cry it would drive her mad and she regretted the decision buying me this game but knew I enjoyed it and stuck around to watch me play it. Up until her passing in 2001, she watched me play every Mario game since. Thank you grandma. I'll never forget you introducing me to professional wrestling and Super Mario. It's a special bond I think about every day and miss you so damn much. I write this listening from 0:00 - 2:44. 34 years old and feels like yesterday playing this. Oh how much I miss yesterday. Love you, miss you more than ever grandma. Thank you.

      2. Koji was really good with what he did. He still produces some god-tier music. But David was really ahead of his time. Honestly now I think he's just another one of Nintendo's composers with Koji being the best, but back in the SNES era he was ledgendary.

Fun fact: Technically every time you hear the music in game is different. Thats because the SNES has a 8 channel audio output, and the music is so complex that it uses all 8 channels. So in order to make a game fx (specially during boss battles) they use a channel and the instrument for that channel stops untill the fx stops. You can hear it more clearly on the Pihranna Boss battle. Yoshi's stomps will use the drums kick channel, and the phiranna sounds will use the armony of the background obstinato.

    A couple things,
    1. I never realized how hard the start demo hits,
    2. I played the GBA version of this (Super Mario Advance 3), and I still remember being like 7 years old and every time my parents went out I'd always try and beat the final boss. I was stocked with 999 lives because I knew some infinite lives glitches and had my DS hidden away until they left. The day I beat that was the first Mario game I had ever beaten and fely so proud. It's amazing what games can do.
    3. One time I softlocked phase 1 of the Baby Bowser fight and have to this day never been able to replicate it.

discovering as a child how the map tune adds one instrument everytime you clear a world was so exciting, the trumpets as the last instruments at the end were so epic.
    0 - Piano alone
    1 - Light drums
2 - Violin bridges bringing the tunes together
3 - Banjoes giving agility to the song
From here they add 2 instruments:
4 - Trumpets and bass the first half of the cycle announces you are approaching the peak
5 - Trumpets and a little flute second half, ready for the end
6 - Cello and marimbas?.. whatever way great end

The SNES is the greatest system ever. It's library is the best gaming library ever, imo. There's a myraid of legendary games on that system, some of them can be debated for greatest game of all time, such as Chrono Trigger. Even some of the SNES's smaller titles blow away 90% of modern AAA games today. In addition, the soundtracks for most of their games are iconic, such as this OST, and I'm not just saying that because of nostalgia. The 90s were an amazing time to be a child.

I love how the mid-boss music sounds so relaxed and playful as a build-up of what's to come while the world boss is one of the most intense damn things you'll ever heard in a Nintendo game and each perfectly set the mood in their own merit. And the Bowser battle theme is something else entirely!
And let's not forget how the level selection map theme gets layers of complexity added as you progress through the game until you beat Baby Bowser and it reaches it's final, complete form. I love that so much!

This game was Super Nintendo, not Nintento 64.

NES then SNES then N64. You're probably thinking of Yoshi's Story for the N64. Unless these really are the songs in which case you're thinking of Yoshi's Island for the SNES

One of my favourite games growing up. It’s funny how much nostalgia music can evoke!

It's so nice to hear these without the crying sounds over it. Not that I had to listen to a lot of the crying since I'm such an expert of playing games ;)

+Cheer Girl Rampage Except that instead of hearing the crying from Baby Mario, you'll be crying yourself.

10:32 is definitely the most iconic out of all of these.
Got chills at 12:19 - perfect for an interior...
