I like it how you can see the difference in the scenes between the stunt driver & David Hasselhoff when it comes to K.I.T.T. being driven. I never noticed them until many years later after getting season 1 of ‘Knight Rider' on DVD.
To be fair, he learnt to stuntdrive, and would do 180s, J-turns and some drifts later in the show himself. I remember reading that once they banned him from from high speed and jump scenes, because he did one jump himself, but then failed to control the crippled car and crashed into a tree. Obviously producers were afraid the main cast could kill himself if they let him going on with risky stunts.

TheDriftSetup. Yeah classic car prices are through the roof. I just got a great deal on 2 MKII MR2T for $3k but they were definitely fixer uppers. Luckily there’s a good one between the two and a decent rolling shell to sell later. Most of the other MR2’s I was looking at were $10-20k!

If you look closely, you'll see that while a real Trans Am did the landing (probably from a very low ramp), already in episode one they had a separate car that looked like T/A, but had much higher and narrower suspension. This is the car that does the actual jump.
What was fascinating about this show (and in fact any 1980s TV show) is that I don't recall any character ever needing to or going to the toilet (bathroom) in any episode or scene. Not one mention or scene of someone using a toilet or farting giving the illusion that they were super human!
Figure 8 race, I've seen them where you have trucks pulling campers. Half the fun is watching the campers get destroyed lol. Basically its a race with no rules, KITT himself cheated twice with the oil slick and smoke show, the kid knew exactly what he was doing lol.

Wish we could see the car that went airborne better. That looks like a highly highly modified Firebird/Trans Am or a ramp car made to look like a Trans Am. Has more of a chassis than the later tube frame "dune buggy" with a Trans Am looking body they soon built and used many times throughout the rest of the show. The car shown landing is a real Trans Am and not the same car going airborne. Anyone know more about that jump car in this scene?

+Illkid1200 Actually, there were moments where the Hoff also drove a stunt car as well as the show car. Like "Slammin' Sammy's Stunt Show Spectacular" for example where Michael puts stars on KITT. Only some of the stunt cars had those stars on them.
I had a toy version of kitt with Michael knight cost was $55 and I was about 10 years old a good school attendance has been a reward with a 100% on a difficult test

Funny how you don't notice stuff as a kid. The stadium seats are empty during the car race except when they edit in footage. That looks like the same racetrack in CA used in The Dukes of Hazzard, Hardcastle and McCormick and again in Knight Rider in season 1 ep slammin Sammy's Stunt spectacular ( or whatever it was called). I forgot the name of the track.
Pity none of the villains in this pilot episode returned in other episodes. I know couple of the actors who played them, Lance LeGault and Shawn Southwick did later return, but they played different characters like many other guest stars. Plus while LeGault returned as another villain in "A Knight in Shining Armor" from Season 2, Southwick returned in "Goliath" as the leading lady this time instead of being in league with the villains. Would've liked to have seen Vince Edwards return as Wilson as he never appeared in Knight Rider again after the pilot.
I'm sure the guy @2:08 was in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS....didn't he play one of the guards, Boyle and Pembry Who Lecter wasted ?.....And the other guy was the biker leader in "Any Which Loose But Loose" ( "Right turn, Clyde!")..

I loved it too as a kid but unfortunately when you get older you notice things you didn't at first. And every ep of Knight Rider is riddled with mistakes & plot holes & continuity errors & recycled footage from other shows
If you use the playback speed, it is quite clear that there is a stunt drivers and a dummy. Remember, these TV shows were shot at SD at 480i, causing them to get away with it.
In real sanctioned destruction derbies there's no window glass or headlights. Not sure but it might also be that they install small gas tanks to reduce the danger. At least it was that way in the late 50s and 60s at Ascot.

Would've liked to have seen Vince Edwards return as Wilson as he never appeared in Knight Rider again after the pilot.

If you use the playback speed, it is quite clear that there is a stunt drivers and a dummy. Remember, these TV shows were shot at SD at 480i, causing them to get away with it.

In real sanctioned destruction derbies there's no window glass or headlights. Not sure but it might also be that they install small gas tanks to reduce the danger. At least it was that way in the late 50s and 60s at Ascot.
