  • This is a Tutorial to how to replace the radiator in Volkswagen New Beetle from 1998 to 2010. Made in a 1999 New Beetle with a 2.0L engine and automatic transmission.

    - Radiator Upper Rubber Mounts : 1J0 806 155 C

    WHO IN THE HELL DESIGNED THIS CAR. I was about to buy a 2009 beetle that needs a radiator and I am amazed how much work it is to change it.

    Can you make a video on where to POINT JACK A VW NEW BEETLE pls? No one has done it in the whole youtube game... That would be SOOOO much nice and will help us avoid doing something wrong. Nice video btw

    The best solution with these beetles, is to immediately drive it to the dump before it is incapable of making the trip and NEVER buy another VW again. (edit - Btw ... This is a great tutorial, even if the car is a complete pile of crap).

    I just completed this job on my son's 2000 New Bug, I am getting a leak from the top radiator connector, where did you get the O-ring from or what size / part number is it? I am having difficulty locating one.

    What are those plastic pieces at the 14:59 minute mark that go on the sides of the radiator that holds the shroud on?

    2 questions. 1 do you have to remove the wheels to take the wheel wells out? (I know it's a lot easier without the wheels I just can't lift my car) And 2 about how long does this process take?

      The difficult part is to remove the screws behind the shock absorber to remove the black cover. You can move the wheels to both sides to have access but I think is very comfortless.

    Una pregunta...! No puedo quitar solo la parte de enfrente de mi facia..? Necesito repararla, pero me puse en duda porque también quitaste las salpicaderas, espero me haga explicado, un saludo desde México...!! Muy buen video

      ¡Saludos! Sí es posible quitar solo la fascia pero los tornillos para removerla de las salpicaderas queda en una posición incómoda. Decidí remover todo el frente para evitar que se roturas.

    What to do after replacing it and putting coolant? Will the engine start normally or take time to start ignition?

      It's starts normally but need to verify for coolant leaks

    I just need to remove the condensor,will it come off with out removing the radiator support?

      I don't think it can be removed without removing the radiator support

    Una pregunta. The O rings on the radiator @12:05 ? There are O rings inside the housings (2006, 2.5). I push down hard, they clip, but then, I test them and they pull right off. Do I need them ? If so, I probably have to push harder ? Thank you for the video. Rebuilding after a friend crashed my bug. Triste.

      The housing is used? If they right off when you pull need a new one. Tuve que reemplazar uno

      @@newbeetlepr no, it's a new radiator. Dang....that's ok, I have not yet put coolant in, I can take it off, again....I am waiting on the second tensioner, the first one (VW) stripped out, the second one was AC Delco, and that broke a tab off. The belt was slack, so a 3rd one is on order. Thank you.

      @@DanTheManIOM I mean, the hose adapter with the clip. If it doesn't fit in the radiator, it needs to be replaced

    Great video. However, you forgot to describe how you must retire wheel arch and wheels. Under this, there are six screws to hold #defense#. Greetings from Canary Islands.

    is it necessary to empty AC for this operation?

      It's not necessary. You can remove the condenser from the radiator without removing the hoses. Like I made on this video.

    You have to take the whole front end off to get to the radiator?

      How do you flush it, I'm overheating. And really dont want to do that. New thermostat (another HUH?) water pump still spins finger in thermostat, turn the pulley trick) no steam, oil is good. Fans run. AAARRRGGGHHH

      ​@@kathrynmcmullen2874 Go to 6:03 minutes. Remove the used coolant and add clean water to the reservoir with the engine running until the water runs clear. Keep the engine running until all the water is removed. Then add new coolant.

    Great video.
    I have a 99 beetle auto with 150k. The car will not shift out of 1st gear. Someone told me it might be my shift selenoid. The mechanic is charging me $1000 pats and labor. Is that correct.

      NewBeetlePR 1st gear. It runs slowly and will not shift to another gear.

      @@alnal4342- Do a scan to discard that it may be a sensor problem. If it is start running slowly may be is on 3rd gear. Check this video: ruclips.net/video/gB1IiL5SWT4/видео.html

      Puede ser alternador o algun corto vengo saliendo de ese problema.

      Te recomiendo llevarlo a un electromecanico. El problema puede ser varias cosas como: Batería o alternador en proceso de dañarse, radio defectuoso, alguna luz led que se quede encendida, relay de los abanicos defectuoso o algún otro sensor. Esos son algunos casos que he escuchado.

      Tambien puede descargarse la batería si tu carro tiene el sistema de audio "Monsoon" y cambiaste el radio original por uno diferente. El sistema Monsoon tiene un amplificador que está en la parte trasera, cerca de la cajuela.

    Pienso que tardaste como 2 dias y usando herramienta electrica y tornillos limpios pero sin herramienta electrica y con tornillos oxidados tal vez tomaria 4 dias. y mano de obra minimo 500 dolares por ese trabajo.

    Lesson of this video ......Never buy a newer VW bug..... Irony is the 70's beetle were air cooled.....no radiator! .....Should have kept it simple.

      @@newbeetlepr VW Beetle Radiator Replacement
      1. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands.
      2. Drain the cooling system .
      3. Disconnect the hoses and sensor wiring.
      4. Disconnect the wiring to the fans, then remove the screws
      holding the fans to the radiator and remove the fans out the bottom.
      5. Remove screws holding the air conditioning radiator and cooling
      radiator to the core support.
      6. Move the radiators toward the engine, then lower the left side
      of the radiators then the right side. now you can remove the screws
      holding the two radiators together.
      7. Slide the cooling radiator out the left side.
      8. Install is reverse.
