Моя бабушка из деревни Тереничи Гомельской области, а в Гомеле у меня родственники сейчас живут. Из всех продуктов бабушка тоже предпочитала белорусские. Я хоть по паспорту и русская, но так как воспитывалась бабушкой, то больше довлею к своей белорусской части (по факту, я польско-русско-якутско-украино-белорусский микс, копец 😆😆😆). Бабушка ко всем беларусам относилась, как к родне, они для неё "свои", так и у меня такое же внутреннее состояние, хотя бабушка меня всё детство хохлушкой называла из-за папиной украинской линии. В Гомеле была только в детстве, надеюсь побывать там ещё в будущем.

You look so much happier in your hometown than in St Petersburg. Would it be terrible if you moved back, became an online freelance translator and content creator? The cost of apartments must be a fraction of those in St. Petersburg and it looks so much nicer, without the stress and noise of the big city.
Good memories Ksenia! It is always a pleasure to see the places where we spent our childhood and adolescence, but also a great emotion. This little town looks so ordered and clean and the surrounding nature, the lake with its unpollutted waters, are undoubtedely amazing. Belarus seems better than Russia, prettier to me. Anyway the video was so nice and it was so kind of you to show us your dearest places. Thank you

Your English is so good! I love your hometown but can't get used to so many apartment buildings & hardly any homes. I'm also surprised at the lack of car and pickup traffic, especially for a town of that size. The town and grounds are certainly very beautiful but deserted-,looking. THANK YOU...your videos are very interesting and informative!
I have a working colleague from Belarus. They moved the whole family with children and grandparents.

It is actually a lovely city. It would appear that in Belarus there isn't such a great disparity between big cities and small towns, like in Russia. Still, it is a pity that the same problems with freedom of expression and all the rest, apply to both. Thanks for the nice tour along your childhood memories.
Tbf that disparity isn’t a thing just in Russia. In my country (Romania), much smaller than Russia, in the big cities (Cluj, Bucharest, Timisoara, etc) you’d think you’re in a Western country, high standard of living and few kms away there’s abject poverty, villages and small towns that are so poor you’d think you’re on another planet. I’m not sure why but people have this impression that this sad reality applies only to Russia with its Moscow and St. Petersburg, I think it happens all over the former communist block.
@minime7375 Well Romania is one of the poorest countries in Europe of course. That's why. You don't see them in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Italy etc etc. Romania t

@@viderethevaccinatorfromhol7536 I sad “former communist block”, last I checked Sweden, Germany, Spain, etc weren’t included in that. It’s not like that only in Romania (which is btw not one of the poorest countries in Europe) but in most neighboring countries, all throughout the Balkans.
@@minime7375 interesting. I wonder if it is for the same reasons that apply to Russia. Maybe a carryover of centralized economic planning that made small town prosperity much harder?
@@zanizone3617 This polarity is kind of a norm for former communist countries. One factor would be the “specialization” of different regions. For example there are whole ghost towns that used to be mining towns when that was a thriving industry and is not anymore.
The industrialization from the communist era ended and there were whole regions or cities that used to be dependent on a certain factory that had thousands or tens of thousands of employees. When that factory closes you get unemployment and poverty. And at least in my country that is the case with many towns, some are deserted, people migrate towards the big cities (just like they do in Russia) or towards other countries for work.

I had an idea for a video... maybe you could show us inside a Russian/Belarusian magazine, like you did for newspapers but with a women's or fashion magazine, I'd find it really interesting to see the cultural difference! Конечно, Беларусь и Россия не тождественны, и Беларуси не довелось пережить ужас ельцинских 90-х и она не так пострадала от ваххабитского мятежа 00-х, поэтому есть некая неконгруэнтность, но в целом благополучие Беларуси оснуется на благополучии России, а оно возрастает (нацпроекты реально работают), -- поэтому и Беларуси поможем. Ксения негативистка (вплоть до дезинформации и алармизма).

Thank you for a great trip to your old hometown! We have a "Farmers Market" where people on Saturdays come and sell produce/meat/crafts in my town.

Nice tour of your town. I know you said it was a holiday but the streets are so quiet! You are right that the place looks more cared for than the previous town with the run down houses but still seems a bit sad witb a lack of life.

I missed your updates this summer so I’m very glad to see you back. I have one question about your town. On a very large lake obviously enjoyed by the people we saw, I noticed that as far as my eyes could see - I saw no boats. I know the feeling of going back to the hometown of your childhood! Usually, something has always changed., nothing ever stays the same. Here in USA, we do have 'FREE HEALTH ', DENTAL, and EYE CHECK-UPS, plus GLASSES , for the people who do not have an income above a certain amount. We also have the same for HOUSING, and programs to either HELP, or PAY for a certain ELECTRIC, and WATER BILLS. I'm sure you see the worst of the worst , here in the U.S., .. but in reality, most towns are nothing like you see on your television. I must say though , I think RUSSIA , and the COMMUNIST COUNTRIES, keep the town pretty tidy , as far as clean. I do like that. I was courious if your Dad worked in the POWER PLANT? We have several DAMS, here as well . To many as far as I am concerned.. LOL. I forgot to mention here in the USA, we have a program that helps with FOOD, and most anything else you might need threw most CHURCHES. All of these FREE , or kinda, FREE , depends on income, but you don't hear about anyone going without unless they choose to. Which I know that I have seen people digging in the garbage cans, for what I don't know, but it's not necessary. The biggest problem we have in , ..'DRUG ADDICTION'. That is a problem! Money is always a problem , and the WILL of the person , to get a proper EDUCATION.. That is the person's own fault.. YOU HAVE A great little town, and fond memories. That is really nice to hear.. Ialways loook forward to your videos, you are a LOVELY YOUNG LADY.. GOD BLESS YOU..

Российская (и, думаю, по аналогии и белорусская) диагностика ценится очень высоко (и именно государственная, ибо в частных клиниках может работать корыстный интерес), -- знакомые моей матери приезжали в Россию из Швейцарии на диагностикум (в Вологду, так жизнь разбросала). Впрочем, что-то хоролшо и в США (например, моя крестница делала отопластику приемному сыну в США -- там это делают лучше; а кое-что лучше делают у нас: например, история девочки с маской Бэтмена, по имени Луна).
Very interesting. The town looked a bit run down, but otherwise clean and well equipped for its size. Do you think that, regarding basic social needs, the average Belarussian lives better/worse than the average Russian (excluding the big cities)? Regarding medical care, I checked the life expectancy statistics: Belarus 72, EU 81 - that's sadly a huge difference, but better than RU 69! Interestingly, women's rights seem to be better in Belarus; 40% of seats in the national parliaments, compared to 16% for RU and 33% for EU. Source: World Bank statistics.

Thanks for creating and sharing this comprehensive, wonderfully informative and entertaining video. I am very much saddened by the current situation in the region - in Belarus, Russia and especially Putler's invasion of Ukraine. We had planned to visit all three countries - Belarus for the first time and the other two for second or third time. Unfortunately, we are having to delay our plans until Putler and his ilk are gone and the people of Russia have been freed, and until after his barbaric invasion has been defeated and Ukraine has been freed. In the case of Belarus, we now also plan to wait until after Ukraine's successful victory and possibly even until after until Lukashenko's departure and the installation of a truly democratically elected government there. I am sad for the locals - and not for me - as I enjoy freedoms and safety that they lack.
Don't worry about the sound quality.

I feel so lucky to have been born and raised in San Francisco, Ca. but have since moved south to silicon valley where I live and worked in the Semiconductor industry. I think it is very hard for people, both mentally and physically to move to another country, especially one that you better keep your opinions to yourself less you go to jail.

Everyone always says the “Great Patriotic War.” Are you not allowed to say World War 2? The world was at war, not just Russia.
The west and Western europe called it the second world war. As russia is a different country they called it by a different name. Not everything goes by western names
@@personincognito3989 Japan says World War 2. South Africa calls it World War 2. Thailand, New Zealand and Bermuda call it World War 2 as well.
The Soviet Union lost 20 Million soldiers in WWII, and were in serious danger of being wiped out. For them, fighting in the war was a very patriotic thing to do.

Great Patriotic war was a part of World War 2. It started on the 22th of June 1941 and ended on the 9th of may 1945.
So much to say. What a completely delightful video. Thank you so much for showing us this. As a Canadian living in a free country I have some observations of comparison, but just know they are not judgments.
It's a cute little town. It's too bad they are not able to keep it up. It's a shame that they built the newer apartment to look almost exactly like the soviet era ones. Just a box, no decor or soft corners. It seems very strange that so so many apartments are built instead of houses.
Please be careful of what you say on your videos, but I'm sure you are the best judge of that.

What a fine place. I would have considered myself lucky if lived in the place. USSR did a lot for the country, still why people demolished the great country?
USSR wasn't a great country to live in. The quality of life was the last thing its government cared about. Pretty much everything was channelled into military equipment, various megalomaniac projects and gigantic subsidies to a bunch of third-world wannabe communist foreign countries. The variety and quality of consumer goods was terrible. Even toilet paper was in a short supply. And in 1990 USSR finally bankrupted economically.
Looks like a nice place to retire. Do they have good hospital there ? What is the nearest big city ?

to @scot-Johnson. I looked it up: and firstly, it's not recommended to travel to Belarus at the moment, due to the small, but real risk of local detention. Law can be arbitrary, exercised randomly, especially now after recent population protests. Secondly - ordinarily, you could go and work, as long as you get a work permit! (Now, wouldn't be a good time choice).

I also visited a small town in the beginning of July. It's called Novosinkо́vo and there less than 8000 people live. I enjoyed the calmness there a loooot 😍😍😍
