Ghost of Tsushima was widely celebrated in Japan and the devs were made honorary ambassadors for the island of Tsushima.
Something tells me Ubisoft's game isn't going to get the same reaction.

Syndicate was amazing. One of my favourite AC games.
All Ubisoft does now with Assassin's Creed is just rip-off other popular games and slap the AC logo onto it. This series really has nothing to do anymore with what this series is named after. I can't remember the last game that actually had the Assassins as the focus, their war against the Templars, or actually sneaking about and you know, assassinating people.
AC Japan was always the emergency option if the franchise ever screwed up.

Well, he is a historical figure and Oda DID take him in. But technically, he wasn't a samurai. I think Oda being such an unconventional person he found Yasuke interesting and appreciated whatever skills he may have had. But that's all.
Yasuke wasn't the first black samurai because he wasn't a samurai at all and afaik there was no second one, either 😂 . He was the only one. Plus, he appeared centuries too late for the Mongol invasion and disappeared after Oda's sudden death. And unlike William Adams he had zero impact.
Whereas Adams technically was no samurai, either but with the title of hatamoto nobody can deny he officially was and he was given quite some training in more than one way. Because he had an actual function.
I wish somebody had researched Yasuke's life as far as possible and made a movie or documentation from it because his case is ABSOLUTELY singular. But that is not in the interest of the industry, of course.

I love how the minute these "diversity experts" discovered Yasuke, they tried to play him up as some kind of unsung hero in Nobunaga's story. When in reality, he was a glorified errand boy.

Akechi Mitsuhide either 1 resold him into slavery, 2 killed him along with Oda’s son, or 3 banished him into the woods to leave him for dead. We don’t know exactly what happened because after Oda Nobunagas death Akechi was ambushed and killed by bandits so he couldn’t write shit down.

Yasuke was not a Samurai. Guy was a retainer, a servant. Nobunaga kept him by his side due to his fascination with his skin color and height. He only stayed in Japan for about 3 years and disappeared. All the crap about him being a samurai is based on fiction. But somehow he became that one token black samurai in Japan.

Ubisoft always a day late, and a dollar short -- while charging an arm and a leg for their games. Fans have been asking for Japan setting for years, and they never deliver. We already have many games in this setting that have already been done better, without wokeness.

I’m all for a female assassin game, but there was no reason not to have both options of Cassandra/Alexios both be canon depending on the players choice. They chose the female, and then did it again with female Eivor in Valhalla. Now we finally get an AC set in Japan and THIS is our choice? A black dude and a scrawny female? And having her tiny 90 lbs azz sending fully armored dudes flying with a kick? They’re really dialing up their ESG shenanigans this time.

Yasuke was a man, likely of African origin, who served as a servant and retainer to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga in 1581-1582. He was retained by the daimyō as a koshō (page) for a period of 15 months until Nobunaga's death. He never was a Samurai!! The message of diversity is more important than the historical truth!! it's disgusting!

I came across him about three years ago, and I checked other sources on top of wikipedia.
His wikipedia page was barely half a page, I checked on him again about two-three months ago since Yasuke was brought up again..
It was at least two pages the last time I saw it.
For what it’s worth, wikipedia is not considered a valid source for research on any topic due to the fact that it can be edited at anytime and information can be shared without citation.

Yasuke was not even that well known he was basically a sideshow that nobunaga kept at his side he was never a samurai and of course instead of choosing more famous ACTUAL samurai’s Ubisoft goes with the diversity pick
Oda Nobunaga, Sanada Yukimura, Date Masamune, Honda Tadakatsu, there were a plethora of famous samurai to pick from, but they picked a retainer of Oda Nobunaga who isnt even japanese. They couldve even picked Hattori Hanzo, dude went from samurai to ninja, wouldve been amazing.
How about an actual original character like the bulk of series has done? Isn't the entire plot of the series (stopped playing after syndicate) is that you're on one side of a secret war between those controlling things behind the scenes and those fighting against? As far as I'm aware all historical figures played side roles with the player characters only ever implied to be someone whose actual identity is unknown in real life.
Can already see where this is going: "the Templars covered up his Samurai role because they're istaphobic". Bet that'll be the excuse.
There are many more nameless samurai/ronin to pick from, but no, black man in Japan.

Yusuke was a real person sure but he was not a samurai, he was basically a squire, his job was to follow Oda Nobunaga carrying whatever Oda needed him to.
He did carry a sword but never used it and it was taken away after Oda commited Sepuku.
He was mainly kept around cause he fascinated Oda cause of his skin tone and how tall he was... Yusuke was about 182cm in height wich is tal for japanese people who aren't use to seeing tall people especially back then.
Also the era this game takes place is the wrong Era. Yusuke didn't show up in japan until about the early to mid 1500's and this game is set about 10 or so years before the war broke out through out japan in the 1500's. After that there wouldn't be another black person in japan until about the 1600's but they were either slaves or crew on a ship, Primarily Portuguese ships.
And they were only in one specific area of japan and not spread out. And they were only there for a few years before leaving with the Portuguese.

Now i have no problem playing as a Black character in an assassin creed Game, hell we had Basim who was Egyptian and he was one of the best AC characters, but of you are basing a game in a certain era and country then stick with the ethnic group of the area. Yusuke would have gotten into alot of trouble in real life and eother be forced to commit sepuku then decapitated or just be killed out right and dismembered.
If you want a black assassin then there are many good time frames and countey to do so, like the Zulu who defeated the british in africa in the 1800's for instance, wich would match the time frame around Syndicate cause england who still be a Templar hotbed.

The ac franchise already has a great black protagonist in Bayek. The guy is in so much pain over the loss of his son. The story is simple, he embarks on a quest for revenge, but it works, any man or woman can relate to his motives. And at the same time that he has this dark side, he has moments of humor and hope. It's a character with many layers and the voice actor did a great job.
There was also Aveline and if you count DLC, Adewale.
Exactly Bayek was the greatest protagonist behind ezio in my opinion and I have played and beaten ac origins over 3 times and have 66 hours on ac origins

Basically a servant akin to a squire or a Porter, who would tend to Nobunaga’s armor and weapons, etc. the word for Samurai, 武士, never appears in conjunction with Yasuke’s name. Of additional note, the modern statue of Yasuke often depicted in social media was quite obviously made by someone who not only did not know Yasuke’s history, but who also was ignorant of Samurai culture. The statue shows dreadlocks. Had Yasuke been a Samurai as the myth states, he would have had a chonmage (丁髷), which was not a fashion choice, but a necessity in order to properly wear a kabuto (兜, 冑) helmet. Anyway, sword bearer, not Samurai, but an interesting tale nonetheless.

I have read some history on famous Japanese Samurai warriors who have made their lasting impact on Japanese culture. I never ever came across a Yasuke character/person in their history. This person does not represent the best of samurai culture, like Takeda Shingen or Oda Nobunaga. If one of these characters were made the main protagonist. I would show interest. I see this game bombing. To the best of my knowledge? There were no black samurai warriors of importance.

Actually ubisoft usually works with historians to try and be as faithful as possible so Yasuke not being a Samurai is a pretty huge rewriting
The problem isn't Yasuke. He is fine. The problem is he is one of the main characters where you usually play as someone who don't exist in real history, basically an original character. He would be fine if there are parts of the game where you can play as him to make it more interesting. He should be a supporing character to the protagonist because he actually exists in our history. This just opens the idea of if original characters for protagonists don't matter anymore and we can use anyone in history as the protagonists no, but if they don't do this in their next game after this, this feels hypocritical. If you want to play as a black guy or girl, play rise of the ronin. If you want to play as a japanese guy if this game doesn't let you play as one, play ghost of tsushima.

Don't care, it's UBI which means I'm definitely going to be not wasting my money on this. Assassin's creed has basically become a joke. No one plays it because they care about the original premise, they're only playing it because of the historical setting. The sickening part is that it's history, you could choose so many point in time that are exceptionally well documented, yet they consistently choose to essentially ignore history, in historical based games. In my opinion, it would be like buying Madden, expecting a football game, and getting a cricket game instead.
I was originally very excited about this game, and when I found out that they removed the character creator, I felt like they took a step back. There also so many other iconic people in Japanese history, that I think would fit a better mold than the main character they chose. Hanzo for example, it was an actual real Shinobi in Japanese history.
Unironically, I would have jumped on this bandwagon without hesitation if the main character was Ainu.
