Maybe just maybe now think about this. Just maybe she’s fucking Japanese. The whole fucking point of the argument was if we’re gonna do assassin Creed in fucking Japan have Japanese people in it.
Why would a woman antagonist thats japanese be more concerning than a black dude who historically wasnt a samurai as the first protagonist in a Japanese assassins creed. I love it but a woman has been in these games multiple times lol

The Japanese tried to scrub the black off Yasuke. You know blacks aren’t prevalent when the natives are trying to wash the black off you.
@robertwhiteley-yv1sy Shortly after trying to be washed by the japanese, he was bought by oda nobunaga and was made a retainer. He was also taught how to use a sword and used it in battle. Thus making him a samurai 🤔 You didn't do your research?
@@chasesonic292 teenage mutant ninja turtles are more Samurai and probably more historical accurate that yasuke. Some historians say that they don’t even know if he was black. I don’t mind a black person in AC games, Adewali and bayek are some of my favourites in the series but they show-horned him in for representation sake and that’s silly. I hope we get the scrubbing scene in the game.
One thing I've noticed about these people is that when it's some white character, they do a whole lot of reaching and making excuses for that white character. Its either that or they just straight up give that white character a pass because what the hell, he's white. But when its a black character, holy Jesus, all of their hypocrisy starts oozing out of their pores. Suddenly, every box needs, and must be checked, and absolutely nothing can be off. These people are laughable at best.
Exactly when it’s a black character all of the sudden every detail must be 100% accurate or your woke and pandering. You can’t win with these clowns, but a white man can be put any where in any game with 0% accuracy and it’s all fine.
Didn't we have an anime starring a black Samurai which was called Afro Samurai which was good....and a movie starring a white man in Ronin 47 played by Keanu Reeves...why people aren't pissed at those properties if all of them want HISTORICAL ACCURACY.... just grow up guys
Never really been about historical accuracy. It's about Sweet Baby Inc having bad writers, ruining good stories and characters with forced wokeness and activism. Most people wouldn't even complain If they could still trust Ubisoft. But they can't, because the track record proves that they will put the agenda above anything else and take things too far. For example: In AC Valhalla, a medieval viking based game, all of your allies within the main narrative were either gay or female. Not 1, not 2, but 3 male gay couples fighting alongside you in the big battle at the end. Of course things like this break immersion and suspension of disbelief, because it's just freaking ridiculous.
The funny thing is that these people that are saying it’s fine will be the same people that riot if an assassin’s creed made in Africa and the main protagonist is a white guy.
If there was a historical figure even as minuscule as yasuke in Africa and was an assassin I wouldn't care, because some people aren't hypocritical dumbasses like the woke and anti woke
Would they? It’s all about context. They didn’t create a black character, the main new protagonist is a Japanese woman. Yasuke is a real historical figure. If they made the setting Africa and one of the protagonists was white and a historical figure, no one would complain. Also you’re really simple minded with your example and you think Black Americans feel strongly about Africa, we don’t. Not as much as you think. “If they made the setting in Africa and the main character white, they would riot.” Would we? Grow up.

But it's (for me) immersive breaker. It's Netflix show now. How long have you search to find that one specific event with black slave in Japan and how hard you want to make it work to turn his whole history on it's head to do this? You had Musashi (dude known from double katana style, it wasn't his go to stance but he did it, it works great for games and for fighter protagonist), you had Tomoe, woman that became samurai, you had Masamune, known for being one eyed dragon, cause he lost sight in one eye. How awesome and fitting for games is that? But nooooo we picked slave in japan cause his pigment was right and HR departament wanted it. How racist is this? AC always worked around cultures and peoples of their picked settings. You have many cool characters from this country and rhis period of time. And they picked slave and turned around his story. Leonardo lived in Italy and he was one of most important characters of his period. Leonidas was lacedemon and was born in Greece, he was one of most influencial after his death at hit gates. Yasuke? Yasuke was fun slave cause he looks different and he never was influencial for Japan or it's culture. See the difference?

I bet you had no issues with the role Adewale was given... at this point us existing in anything is an issue
If it's made by the Odyssey team I might just like it, my main thing for not liking Odyssey was not being an assassin and the setting just wasn't for me. Otherwise, the combat wasn't bad, there was just too much to do and it got overwhelming for me.

Okay I guess. Maybe a Japanese guy then?" *Ubisoft:* "Nope. B L A C K" Because of course. Not only is this yet again more blatant pandering by these companies, but it's obvious that the only reason there are two protagonists is to shoehorn in a black character. Ubisoft knows they would never get away with just the single black main character in a game set in Japan, so they made at least one of them Japanese in order to "ease it in".

Why can’t we play as a male Japanese protagonist? Or why can’t we have the CHOICE to do so, like Kassandra/Alexios. Seriously, East Asian male leads are underrepresented and this was a golden opportunity for representation of a marginalised group.
Are Japanese men really underrepresented in games? You're probably right in regards to western media, but they're everywhere in Japanese media and Japanese media is nowhere near as niche as it used to be.
@@Phoenix6942-7 Are you serious lmao? How many Eastern Asians are big players in the MCU? I mean, we race swapped Nick Fury, Heimdall etc. where are the Asians? It’s only ever in one direction really. The most obvious one.
As an Asian person, this is how I can explain it to people who don't understand the criticism. Imagine the music industry releasing a documentary that says Eminem is the greatest and most influential hip-hop/rap artist of all time. Eminem is extremely talented but to give that title to a culturally Black audience is insulting. And as an Asian person who's been waiting for an AC game to take place in Japan, all they had to was just keep it culturally Japanese. All of this controversy could've been avoided. If Yasuke had made an appearance in the game as an ally or DLC, I wouldn't have cared. Hell they could've made this game a Rush Hour duo with an Asian guy/Black guy story. It's annoying to see Asian men take a back seat in their own culture. But they would rather make a game that says "Hey black people, we're not racist anymore, here's your token black person to show you we're the good guys!" And we also get a girl boss who's a strong independent woman who doesn't need a man. It's phony and disingenuous.
Yasuke is a pop culture icon in Japan who has his own anime and makes appearances in multiple Japanese games and media, including Samurai Warriors 5. And yes, he was in fact a Samurai. When someone says that someone is a "retainer" they actually mean someone is a Kashin, or a member of a clan's Kashindan. You can think of a clan's Kashindan as basically its standing army, the soldiers it keeps... on retainer to fight wars at a moment's notice. Ashigaru were, in contrast, peasant conscripts. (Like a militia.) They were levied at an individual clan's need and every able-bodied adult man within a clan's territory was expected to be capable of answering a call to arms, similar to the way it works in feudal Europe. If you were in a clan's Kashindan, you were considered a samurai. Samurai during the Sengoku Period meant anyone who was a full-time soldier. The idea of samurai as being a rigid military caste that you had to be born into is an invention of the Edo Period. Now, to clarify, samurai *clans* were indeed aristocratic noble families that you had to be born into. Being a member of a clan's Kashindan did not mean you were a part of the clan, but you did not need to be part of the clan to be a samurai. The concept of samurai actually predates the concept of samurai clans. The first samurai clans that emerged during the Heian Period were just full time soldiers who became nobles. Samurai then became a form of nobility, but a form of nobility you did not need to be born into. Yasuke served as Oda Nobunaga's Kosho, which was a personal servant/bodyguard to a Busho or the samurai equivalent of a general or lord. Kosho, critically, were considered samurai. Yasuke... Was a samurai.
@@jeremymain7303 He was there for two years before he met Nobunaga, who made him a retainer and vassal. Yasuke was given land and title, and he was with Nobunaga during the battle of Honnoji Temple. Saying the yosuke was a samurai with very little evidence and 3 years in Japan is disrespectful to samurai and japanese culture as a whole. And an icon sure why don't you explain the number of dislikes in the japanese trailer of assassins Creed Shadows then. Besides the problem isn't that his black it's that " his not japanese" in a game set in Japan with japanese culture. Honestly this is racist when you actually think about it. Ubisoft instead of using someone who's a part of that culture decided to pander towards a different race(with barely any connections to them) and still use their culture
All of a sudden cultural appropriation isn’t a thing? lol jk, but It’s the needless pandering that’s pissing people off, not necessarily Yasuke being the main character. Ubisoft is just looking for brownie points from critics by making the main character black. Miyamoto Musashi (an undefeated, Ronin, master samurai) who lived roughly around the same time that this game takes place would have been the perfect choice and made for a much more immersive experience.. but no, let’s go with Yasuke, who only lived in Japan for roughly 3 years.. the game still looks dope! And I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, but Yasuke just feels a little shoehorned in for the sake of political correctness.. Ya'll are seriously missing the point and keep bringing up useless comparisons. Nioh is a new IP, meanwhile Assassin's Creed has always put the main spotlight on the original characters, and most of them originated in their respective settings. So having yet ANOTHER romanticized version of Yasuke instead of an original Japanese lead is not it. The dude is overused, straight up. Doesn't matter if they bring William or any other historical figure to replace Yasuke, it would be preferable if they're still sticking with an original protag, even better if it's a Japanese man to go along with Naoe. Historical figures in AC games should stay in the supporting role.
The only arguable one is Jesus since he’s actually a historical figure. All the examples you guys mentioned are fictional. If you wanted to use a better example, then use John Wayne as Genghis Khan.

Except Ubi themselves trying to twist the nature of Yasuke as an actual samurai in real life, even tho he's kind of a nobody (this is them trying to explain the nature of the character, not in the actual game). You can see it in the game descriptions and that commentary video by the dev, which is one of the problems of having a historical figure as protag, even tho i would argue that people already got this false understanding of who Yasuke is thanks to all of the romanticized version of his story.

Are you talking about Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai? He was never made into a samurai in the movie since that class was pretty wiped out in the movie as the Emperor was looking to Westernize Japan. Also, ironically, there was actually a white samurai named William Adams from the Edo Period. It was in the early 1600s. Adams also spent more time in Japan than Yasuke did based on historical records. Pretty interesting that there were actually a few non-Japanese people that were made into Samurai back then.
William Adam’s was actually a samurai. He could sail as well as build ships. He also negotiated treaties with the Dutch, and helped in the removal of the Portuguese from Japan. Actually, Japanese players, and even most East Asian players, don't really care about historical accuracy. After all, the protagonists in all the previous Assassin's Creed games have been fictional characters. The reason everyone feels offended is that Assassin's Creed has so many previous installments, and it has always upheld a tradition of using local protagonists in each game: Syrians, Italians, Americans, Brits, French, Egyptians, Greeks... But this tradition is broken when it comes to Japan. This makes Japanese players feel singled out. You might say there's also a playable female ninja who is Japanese, but the British siblings are both British, and the Greek siblings are both Greek, so this differentiation still exists.
but the difference is hes an actual person who lived in Japan. I can understand if he was a random black dude that nobody ever heard of..but he actually exist..ac has always put historical people into their games, the only difference is you get to play as one this time. and before people yap on about how it isnt "historically accurate" ac has always taken liberties when dealing with history..you think an order of assassins killed xerxes? how about ceasar chasing a dude on an elephant? Cleopatra and ptolemy? Aristicrates? Every single historical person in an AC game ACTIONS are fabricated. The only thing they share with their real life counterparts are the names.

I think this shits just fantasy this series stopped being "accurate" when they put some alien chick in the game telling Desmond to take care of the magic mcguffin.
People acting like Assassins Creed doesn’t put a spin on historical figures to suit their narrative in the AC games. They literally say that history is their playground in the opening of their game before you hit the start menu. This has been the case for multiple historical figures in the games among which are Rodrigo Borgia, Charles Lee, the Knights Templar themselves, and of course the order of assassins themselves that originated from the middle east.
Exactly. A lot of the source material in the franchise is made up, so people wanna talk about historical accuracy, but last I checked I don’t think George Washington got corrupted by a magical artifact during the revolutionary war.
Fair enough, we should make a game set in Africa but one of the protagonists is one of the few white ppl there in the period and he wasn't relevant at all. If you complain that you're not giving enough representation to the native africans you're racist.
“Wasn’t” is pretty incorrect. Most historians suggest old account detail lean that he was. In the “Shinchōkōki” Ōta Gyūichi documents Nobunaga giving him a sword, a stipend, and a private residence. The formal “knighting” ceremonies were not common as Samurai was merely a job description. As a layman I’m just saying that if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck…
@@fatboyRAY24 it’s important to differentiate between the privileges yasuke received and the actual social status and title of being a samurai. Nobunaga caught interest in yasuke simply because of him being black and his tall stature. He fought alongside him as a warrior, not a samurai.
@@fatboyRAY24 You read a couple documents and that proves it? If Oda Nobunaga says he’s a samurai, but every other samurai in Japan says the fuck he’s not. Guess what? He’s not.
@Bingchirringg If Yasuke was a sword retainer for Nobunaga, that would be equivalent to a knight's man of war in feudal England. A man of war had all the same skills and equipment as a knight, but not the nobility. Japan had a similar system to knighthood. It took pretty much someone's whole life to become a samurai or knight, so they were supplemented by people who could perform warrior tasks and were compensated by retainment. If you have questions or comments I'm happy to field them.
Yasuke controversy aside, the idea that they got his hair wrong is WILD because any black man with braids or proper locks is looking at this like that's the only correct thing we approve of lmao. Also, there were -kinda- female ninja. Fun fact: Kunoichi as a concept weren't as much a separate force of female ninja and more kunoichi was a "type" of ninjutsu. The concept revolved around utilizing woman in the plan as the infiltrator since they could have greater access to high-profile environments via things like caregiving and sexuality and people were likely to lower their guard far more around women. The difference being the woman could be a member of the clan, but likely was a sister, wife, or daughter. In some cases, men themselves would even take the role if they were androgynous or feminine enough to pull it off.
The only thing that annoys me that both have to share the stage as the main character. The white male protagonists from earlier titles didn’t had to share their respective stages. But the asian woman or the black man had to share her or his place on the spotlight with another minority. I don’t know about you, but I feel like that kind of exaggerated inclusivity makes the withe males even more privileged than before. But from a marketing standpoint I totally get that approach, purely based on aesthetics of the promotional art this duo of main characters rocks and stays on my mind.
Valid. Why are black people being blamed when we're literally getting the shortest stick of all. a SINGLE playable character and were still excited, but just existing pisses these people off smh.
yasoke was proven already to not be a PROVEN or WELL documented Fact. I personally think yasuke was a concept/ story and the shit is fire regardless. and its was an anime I watched it. It was fire did I think it was true no because it is a mf cartoon. same with assassin's creed, them saying it's a true story means nothing. every big corporation lies about shit they are making or selling, look at 2k and cod mfs still buy and preorder that shit. it's a fuckin video game bro who cares. Buy the game because it is truly fire. But if you don't want to buy a game because you draw the line at black Samari your crazy lol.
I think it would have been cool if they picked a place other than Japan. The Mali empire for example, I played in Japan already in "ghost of tsushima" this feels like just replaying the same game with Ubisoft style and alot less originality, visiting an African empire like mali would have been very cool, you rairly see depection of African empires in video games and movies
BECAUSE ITS HORRIBLE. HAVE FUN HAVING MOST OF THE ARMOR SETS LOCKED BEHIND A CREDIT CARD 😆 🤣 😆 🤣 😆 I PAID FOR GHOST OF TSUSHIMA ONE TIME AND THEY GAVE ME THE WHOLE GAME. ISN'T THAT CRAZY
Ok, I've played ALMOST EVERY AC down to the first, all the way to Valhalla (excluding Odyssey and mirage...two of probably the shittiest games imo) and have been playing Ubisoft games on and off for years. And even I can see they added yasuke solely, and I do mean SOLELY, for the brownie points and ESG. Ubisoft is a dying company because of how unorganized and downright greedy they are, if you think even for a second they wouldn't resort to gaslighting us into believing this isn't to fill a check mark on a quota idk what to tell you my man🤌🏼
"Yay being a racist trash and supporting black washing and cultural appropriation is good cause i get to play a shitty game from a shitty company that scams its audience."
If that’s an actual event in history and that’s what they chose then yes, would look forward to playing that game and seeing that story. Very simple, don’t flip out about stupid shit
Haters are gonna hate no matter the setting if it had a Japanese guy it’s gonna be a knock of got but if they keep yasuke it’s not historically accurate?
My theory is Ubisoft wants to do a female only game for a long time but they also want the sales from the male player base and also hit the extra diversity quota. So they added Yasuke in. I personally would've loved it if it was only Yasuke. We would've felt like an outsider discovering Japan for the first time. Also Naoe is gonna be the only assassin so why is even Yasuke there just to be a brute with a katana. Im not black or white or asian so all the politics aside I really hope Yasuke learns a few assassin tricks from Naoe and naoe learns to fuck shit up from Yasuke.
They pick black leads for sales just like they pick asian and white leads for sales. Its all about target audience and at the end of the day its all for profit, the politics (left or right) are just salad dressing.
A black samurai is historically accurate LOL jesus christ talk about cultural appropriation and literally no understanding of Japanese history whatsoever. Woke scolds are making the argument that since Yasuke fought in the service of Nobunaga that means he was a samurai, but not all warriors of Nobunaga were samurai and there exists no primary sources at all which refer to him as a samurai. It is completely historically inaccurate to consider Yasuke a samurai, you would only do that if you have a woke agenda.
idk if youre some weeboo who think only japanese people can be samurai..but it was literally just a social class in a caste system. thats literally it. idk why you have this mysticism around samurai.
@@ShinzuXTruth Another dumb woke scold who understand nothing about Japanese history, well let's get to it. Yasuke was not and never will be considered a Samurai within the scholarly community. Yasuke was a weapon bearer of Nobunaga. Samurai was indeed a "social class" that was hereditary. A "samurai" in historical terms was not simply some warrior in Japan who was allowed to walk around with a sword and stipend, it included specific rights and duties and hereditary status. That samurai status was hereditary is so widely attested in reliable sources that it is practically a given within this field of scholarship. What's more, the matter of non-samurai in the Sengoku/Azuchi-Momoyama being granted or claiming samurai status is unrelated to this, as (if such status was successfully held onto until things settled down in the Edo period) this samurai status would be passed onto their descendants-hence, hereditary. In other words, the only way for those figures (like Hideyoshi) to hold onto their Samurai status was to claim imperial or some other samurai heritage. You are basically saying that because Yasuke was around Samurai he must be a Samurai, there is no proof he was treated like a Samurai either. He was treated like a weapon's bearer of a high status official. The idea that social class in the Sengoku period was a transient fluid thing is disproven by your own statement, i.e. "social class in a caste system", indeed the caste system limited social class via hereditary status. To make Yasuke a "Samurai" is to erase the historical facts about the caste system, aren't you a woke scold? Aren't you supposed to remember oppressive systems and not do erasure? Because that is what you're doing right now.
Honestly, i just find it funny how people get uptight about these things not realizing that you can vote with your wallet and simply not play the game. Instead, people are gonna complain about this up into release and still end up buying the game. Its one thing if yasuke was a ficton character but its based on a real person that did exist in japan in the time period the game takes place in.
Assassin's Creed has always had "historical accuracy" with a ton of liberties in it. Should barely even give this time of day. Not nearly as bad as Stellar Blade neckbeards but good God, it's exhausting. Expecting Ubisoft of all devs to do right by representation is a wild expectation tbh
The thing that bothers me about using Yasuke is that why do they now decide to use a real person as the playable character when every main character in Assassin's Creed has been fictional?
Ask your self this... why does that even matter? A good story is a good story. Most of your most favorite fiction is based on something real. Think harder.. I know your brain works.
why does that matter and why does that BOTHER you? Assassin's creed never had RPG mechanics before but then they added it Assassin's creed never had loot mechanics but then they added it Assassin's creed never had you fight mythological creatures like Minotaurs but then they introduced it Assassin's creed never had a modern day protagonist who wasn't Desmond Miles until they introduced someone else Assassin's creed never had sea based ship combat until they added it But now Assassin's creed is trying out a new black MC who is also a historical figure alongside another Japanese MC and this is where you draw the line?
Imma be honest ... I wish Samuel L jackson had voiced him and they gave him corn rolls just for the haters. If its origins sized and the story is on point without too much dlc I'm there day one.
Here is a true question, How many characters in Assassin's Creed (AC 1 through AC Valhalla) were playable and if any of them were true historical people from the past? The ANSWER is very simple, "None." All the "playable" characters in AC 1 through AC Valhalla were all fictional characters, Yasuke was a real historical person who was nothing more than a retainer, not a samurai. Yasuke IS A REAL HISTORICAL BLACK MAN WHO WAS NOTHING BUT A RETAINER FOR Oda Nobunaga! "Real Historical Person," Yasuke was and is but a "Retainer." The other Assassin's Creed characters from Assassin's Creed 1 through Assassin's Creed Valhalla are "Fictional," characters that DO NOT EXIST IN ACTUAL HISTORY. Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad (Fictional Character), Ezio Auditore da Firenze (Fictional Character), Captain Edward James Kenway (Fictional Character), Adéwalé (Fictional Character), Aveline de Grandpré (Fictional Character), Bayek of Siwa (Fictional Character), Alexios and Kassandra (Fictional Characters), Basim Ibn Ishaq (Fictional Character), and others that are not based in our past historical history. That is why I always stated to other people that 80% is Fact because of True History for Assassin's Creed Video Games, then there is the 20% Fiction that has "People", Places, Items, and other things that are in the game, are not in our past history. Yasuke "IS A TRUE HISTORICAL PERSON IN JAPAN," NOT A FICTIONAL CHARACTER, you can say, "fantasy," all you want but we all know that Yasuke is a real black man who was a retainer, not trained to use the katana, he cleaned Nobunaga's Katana's and other weapons that is what a retainer does. Sorry to say in true historical words and more true blunt historical words Yasuke was a retainer meaning he was a servant to Oda Nobunaga. Not my words but in actual dictionary definitions, Retainer is a person attached or owing service to a household especially a: SERVANT or b: EMPLOYEE. There’s discrepancies in Japanese history about Yasuke and we don’t know he was a retainer or a samurai that was trained. There is basically no actual documentation except for a few stories, but stories can change over time because of different perspectives, different things happening different mindset. Just like for example, that if you say something from a long time ago by word-of-mouth, then someone says it in a different word or words than that word-of-mouth or whatever you said can be different. And we cannot forget about WWII that many things could’ve been lost because of the war, and we may never know from certain items to certain documentations were burnt or been completely annihilated because of the two bombs, but we don’t know. I’m not saying that this can be a true story or not but all we know that he was nothing more than a retainer and that is it. I am sorry to say, but until there is actual more evidence like where is Yasuke Katana sword? Where is it? Does anyone know? Because if you have that sword and it has his name on it and approves that he was a samurai, but in the end, no sword, no proof that he was a samurai. Both Greed and WOKE is the message and agenda on both UBISOFT and Sweet Baby Inc. and Black Gamer Girls, and DEI Money. There is no story or the Hero's Journey in this game. Assassin's Creed is just now a "Shadow Shell," of itself and an empty husk. You know if only the Baka writer read Japanese History a lot closer than instead of 2 characters to play, there could be only 1 character to play. There was an opportunity they could have used instead of a fictional black samurai character and in real history he was a retainer not a samurai. If only they read Japanese history carefully and throughly they could have made the only one Japanese Female Assassin Character. Combined both true history and fiction, Japanese women at the time did learn to use a particular weapon called, "Naginata," a Polearm weapon with a curved blade at the top. While the katana sword tends to be associated with male samurai of Japan, a distinctive weapon called the naginata has been traditionally associated with women and female fighters known as onna-bugeisha. This could have been the base of a Japanese Assassin's Creed Story, with a Japanese Woman who learned to use the Naginata and eventually learns the way of the Assassin's Brotherhood! Do you know why they don’t want to make a game based in Africa, especially in Assassin’s Creed well because in actual history, many of the warring tribes enslaved their own kind. In about 90% or even 80% of the black population of today, don’t want to admit that their own kind in Africa, their own ancestors in Africa enslaved their own kind. This is why they don’t want to make any Assassin’s Creed games based in Africa. I know they already did Egypt, but I am talking other African countries or places in Africa other than Egypt like South Africa, Algeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and the other 48 African countries.
You could play as an Asian shinobi to be a ranger. You could play as a black samurai to be a tank. It'd be nice if there's a main which is a berserker (balanced class between the two) where you could also play as a traditional Japanese samurai, since AC has never had a proper Asian male protagonists. Also, more choices for the players to alternate.
Yea the funny thing about dreadlocks is you don’t even need a loctician, just grow your Afro out and twist your hair yourself with your hands and it will turn into Freeform dreadlocks that’s probably what yasuke did
10:47 Cruise's character wasn't the Last Samurai. It was Katsumoto and his clan who were. Algren doesn't even become a Samurai. He wears the armor and fights alongside Katsumoto in the final battle but he never officially becomes a Samurai so using that is a bad example.
This is what happens when you let western media companies create something about asian culture: Last samurai - (takes place in japan, main character is a british guy who for some reason is a better samurai than all the japanese who have been trained since birth, gets desired by the main asian femal lead) Shogun - (takes place in japan, main focus is again on the british guy, they show how he can do stuff the japanese cant do, and make sure to let people know that its because of him that everything worked out the way it did, and ofcourse this guy is also the one with a romantic dynamic with the asian female lead role) 21 - (its about harvards MIT class and based on a true story..in reality they were all chinese... in the movie there is only one chinese dude and he is a side character ofcourse the main character was the white guy) The great wall - (takes place in china, and it is matt damond as the european mercenary who was needed to save the chinese people) Karate kid - (american boy moves to china to beat everyones ass) Forbidden kingdom - (another american boy who is gonna save china) 3 body problem - (3 asian female lead roles, but the asian men are side characters and either fat or gay) Man with the iron fists - (another american who moves to china to beat everyone up and be the saviour of this chinese village) The flowers of war - ( an american becoming the protector of a group of chinese women against the japanese) Empire of the sun - ( movie about the japanese invasion of shanghai, main character is a british man) The quiet american - ( a love story between an american journalist and an vietnamese woman during the early stages of the vietnam war) Silence - (its about two portugese guys trying to convert all asians to christianity) Marco Polo - (Venetian merchant Marco Polo in the court of Kublai Khan, emphasizing his perspective and experiences in the Mongol Empire. Putting them in a bad light) Indiana jones - ( The film features many negative stereotypes about Indian culture and portrays Asian characters as either villains or submissive sidekicks, with Short Round being the primary Asian male character who is depicted as a comedic, subservient sidekick.) Sixteen candles - ( The character Long Duk Dong is a highly stereotyped and comedic depiction of an Asian male, reinforcing negative and demeaning stereotypes.) Kill bill - (many of the Asian male characters, such as members of the Crazy 88, are portrayed as disposable villains and lack depth or positive traits.) Farcry 4 - (an antagonist with Asian descent, who is portrayed as a ruthless and flamboyant dictator, ) There are even more examples but it would take too long to finish this comment....with that being said, I can understand why people are upset that a western media company repeats what they have been doing since forever... I know that there are many games with a cool asian male as a main character but those games are made in asia... Unfortunately when you look at western companies creating content based on asian cultures you can see a pattern
Wait until you hear about anime.. for a genre made in Japan, they don't seem to care about having Japanese looking characters in the vast majority of their movies and shows.
@@TheJohhnyE i dont care about anime..... also animation is different because you have to put emphasis on their facial expressions and its easier to do that with a certain type of face i guess And also those animes are often fictional stories in places that dont exist so it dont even really matter
@@mugen11120 The reason it sometimes seems like there is less anger might partly be due to the rise in popularity of non-Western film industries such as Bollywood, Hong Kong cinema, and K-dramas. These industries provide a platform for authentic Asian stories and talents, which has certainly contributed to offering alternatives to Western mainstream media. Therefore people might think asians don't get mis-represented. However, this does NOT mean that the problems with representation in Western media do not exist or that they are less important. The constant Westernization of Asian roles or the reduction of Asian characters to stereotypes not only influences how others see Asians but also how Asian people see themselves, especially those living in the West. Because they are often not even aware of asian cinema and grew up on hollywood films. These films are distributed worldwide and often promoted more prominently than Asian films, which means that many still unconsciously receive a distorted view of Asian cultures. AC 1 -> Altair Lbn La Ahad (played in Middle East) AC 2 -> Ezio Firenze (Italy) AC 3 -> Haytham Kenway (Revolution time in America) AC 4 -> Edward Kenway (piracy in America) AC unity -> Arno Dorian (French Revolution) AC origin -> Bayek & Any (Egypt) AC Odyssey -> Alexio / Kassandra (Greek) and so on we see main characters born and raised from that region or country then we have new AC played in Japan where male protagonist is African decent? I wonder why so many people are pissed off on this decision. When I played Valhalla I do not expect to introduce myself with Viking's culture with fresh set of eyes, AC was never like this.
In revelations the setting was Turkey, yet we played as an Italian Assassin. And in Black Flag the setting was in the west Indies and we played as a Welsh Assassin. The game has had assassins prior to this one who were not of the culture for where their games took place. The difference between those and Shadow is that Shadow HAS a Japanese Assassin in the form of Naoe. She is more so the actual titular "Assassin" of this game then Yasuke is, as she has all of the fittings of one like the hood, hidden blades, stealth, etc. Not only that but the series itself has used the histories of actual people and tweaked them for the game, unless you believe DaVinci invented weapons for a centuries old secret society of assassins. It's why AC fits into the genre of historical fiction. If your stance is that of immersion or historical accuracy, then fine. But this isnt the first game to cross those lines in the series. By your own logic your breaking point should have been wayy earlier.

Bro I brought up the same point about the Last Samurai. There's also 47 Ronin and recently Shogun that has a white protagonist/ main character and that certain demographic was not complaining whatsoever about those characters in a Japanese setting. Don't get it twisted, I was hoping for a male Japanese character (as a ninja instead of a samurai too, because y'know, ASSASSINS creed with ninjas assassinating mfs is what I've been waiting for for a minute) but I'm interested to see where they go with Yasuke's narrative. I wanna see the gameplay though. Also if I can main Assassin/ninja shyt with ol girl then I I'll be locked in.

Dude. Playing the race card is dumb as hell. Fans of AC have been wanting an AC game placed in fuedal Japan for a long ass time. The problem is not historical accuracy, is the other way around, AC was never meant to be historical accurate and all Main characters so far have been fictional and native, and unlike how Odyssey is portrayed there were not female spartan warriors, so Is quite curious that they changed that now if historical inaccuracy was never an issue, isn't it? Is almost like if it is just a front to try to justify the character by using a very minor historical figure that practically did nothing, no one knew his real name or how did he look like and basically is only remembered because of the color of his skin... The Yasuke of the game is a complete new fictional character created with very obvious intentions, using the real life person's name is just the perfect Excuse for Ubisoft.

Remember when Leonidas had a magical staff or that Kane was the founder of the Templars
Their all massive pussies I would have more respect for them If they just said the quite part out loud at this point.

@@piotrkarp9562you both proved their point and dismantling your own argument because your immersion breaking is nothing more than you being butthurt he's black. which is not surprising, y'all take issues with seeing literally any black character in a primary role unless he's portrayed as some downtrodden 🥷🏿, hoodlum, or slave. the characters you named, firstly, have been in various games before as well as abundant throughout fiction as a whole. it's only "immersion breaking" because it goes against your biases of the roles black characters are fit in. how many samurai games have Japanese male protagonists? how many historical games have the exact focus you allude to? but this is somehow bad.
Currently playing it now 120hrs having beaten the main story but a few more important questlines to finish. Although the side content is good it is too damn much. Thankfully Shadows is apparently the size of Origins *which is still too big imo*
I liked Valhalla more because it was just more engaging. Origins isn't bad but it requires more patience.
you dont have to do it all..i dont understand how games can overwhelm people..pick what you want to do.

Probably because we already have Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro and they needed a USP to diffrentiate from those games.
Are Japanese men really underrepresented in games? You're probably right in regards to western media, but they're everywhere in Japanese media and Japanese media is nowhere near as niche as it used to be.

@gilgamesh8334 they're underrepresented in the MCU, not in films and games as a whole.

Tried reading your comment but all I can see is "wah wah wah wah"
No he was a page who lived there for three years. Judging by all the downvotes on the Japanese trailer he's an icon to noone.
He absolutely was not. And the Japanese aren't down with this trash either.
@@jeremymain7303 He was there for two years before he met Nobunaga, who made him a retainer and vassal. Yasuke was given land and title, and he was with Nobunaga during the battle of Honnoji Temple.

Besides the problem isn't that his black it's that " his not japanese" in a game set in Japan with japanese culture.

You know what’s funny this whole Yasuke wasn’t a samurai shit never mattered because up until this point as everybody considered him a samurai. He was in multiple Japanese made games about samurai where he was in fact a samurai. If the Japanese video game developers consider him a samurai, then shut the fuck up. You do not know more about the culture than the Japanese.
@@markusjones8412 he was a samurai up until he touched their favorite franchise. Now all the sudden fools saying he was just a bag boi
After Nobunaga's death, Yasuke, some sources say, that he disappeared from all/most historical records. This makes it so that Ubisoft has more freedom with his character.
A descendant of Samurai , I think even Nobunaga (not sure) confirmed that Yasuke is a Samurai. Many other Japanese have come out saying the same too.
He was indeed a samurai
I was dissapointed tbh, I'm Asian and I don't care that Yasuke is the main character but it's either im insecure but I think that the male character should have been Japanese. Asians don't get any representation except for Hot Asian Female and stuff like Stellar Blade. Jin Sakai was a nice once

@@darryljack6612Asian men are underrepresented in media. That’s why. Ghost of Tsushima is the first western game that has an Asian male protag in a long time. Let that sink in.

Also dont get me wrong, more representation should be had in general. But that's not what the OP said. They stated Asian representation, you moved the goalpost from Asian to specifically Asian Male.
@jirohta3189 you are racist asf. How dare you generalize japanese people as docile..something is wrong with you..touch grass. each person is different you cant generalize based on ethnicity or nationality.
People accept the greek and norse gods being real in their "historically accurate" games than the black dude weilding a sword.
Like damn a squirrel talking is more real to these people for some reason.
For 1, Yaskue was a real person. 2, if it’s one thing other races gone do it’s complain about a black main character. The hate is real
Fair enough, we should make a game set in Africa but one of the protagonists is one of the few white ppl there in the period and he wasn't relevant at all. If you complain that you're not giving enough representation to the native africans you're racist.

The AC series is historical FICTION. Even though Yasuke wasn’t historically a samurai shouldn’t matter in a freaking video game 😂
Yasuke’s background as a warrior doesn’t mean he was a samurai. There was no evidence of him receiving that title.
A samurai follows a strict code of conduct called Bushido, which basically means loyalty, honor, and self-discipline. Samurais underwent rigorous training in martial arts and weaponry from a young age. Yasuke came to japan in his mid 20s, only stayed for 3 years and served nobunaga for 15 months as his retainer.
@@Bingchirringg surely nobunaga's words have more value since he's the leader

My theory is Ubisoft wants to do a female only game for a long time but they also want the sales from the male player base and also hit the extra diversity quota. So they added Yasuke in. I personally would've loved it if it was only Yasuke. We would've felt like an outsider discovering Japan for the first time.
It is completely historically inaccurate to consider Yasuke a samurai, you would only do that if you have a woke agenda.
but william adams being a samurai is a-okay with you because hes white huh... hate more bro. hate more.
he was given a fief.. a home..a consort...and his own swords. He was as much as a samurai as your beloved william adams.
idk if youre some weeboo who think only japanese people can be samurai..but it was literally just a social class in a caste system. thats literally it. idk why you have this mysticism around samurai.

Here is a true question, How many characters in Assassin's Creed (AC 1 through AC Valhalla) were playable and if any of them were true historical people from the past? The ANSWER is very simple, "None."
All the "playable" characters in AC 1 through AC Valhalla were all fictional characters, Yasuke was a real historical person who was nothing more than a retainer, not a samurai.

Shogun - (takes place in japan, main focus is again on the british guy, they show how he can do stuff the japanese cant do, and make sure to let people know that its because of him that everything worked out the way it did, and ofcourse this guy is also the one with a romantic dynamic with the asian female lead role)
21 - (its about harvards MIT class and based on a true story..in reality they were all chinese... in the movie there is only one chinese dude and he is a side character ofcourse the main character was the white guy)
The great wall - (takes place in china, and it is matt damond as the european mercenary who was needed to save the chinese people)
Karate kid - (american boy moves to china to beat everyones ass)
Forbidden kingdom - (another american boy who is gonna save china)
3 body problem - (3 asian female lead roles, but the asian men are side characters and either fat or gay)
Man with the iron fists - (another american who moves to china to beat everyone up and be the saviour of this chinese village)
The flowers of war - ( an american becoming the protector of a group of chinese women against the japanese)
Empire of the sun - ( movie about the japanese invasion of shanghai, main character is a british man)
The quiet american - ( a love story between an american journalist and an vietnamese woman during the early stages of the vietnam war)
Silence - (its about two portugese guys trying to convert all asians to christianity)
Marco Polo - (Venetian merchant Marco Polo in the court of Kublai Khan, emphasizing his perspective and experiences in the Mongol Empire. Putting them in a bad light)
Indiana jones - ( The film features many negative stereotypes about Indian culture and portrays Asian characters as either villains or submissive sidekicks, with Short Round being the primary Asian male character who is depicted as a comedic, subservient sidekick.)
Sixteen candles - ( The character Long Duk Dong is a highly stereotyped and comedic depiction of an Asian male, reinforcing negative and demeaning stereotypes.)
Kill bill - (many of the Asian male characters, such as members of the Crazy 88, are portrayed as disposable villains and lack depth or positive traits.)
Farcry 4 - (an antagonist with Asian descent, who is portrayed as a ruthless and flamboyant dictator, )
There are even more examples but it would take too long to finish this comment....with that being said, I can understand why people are upset that a western media company repeats what they have been doing since forever...
I know that there are many games with a cool asian male as a main character but those games are made in asia...

@@mugen11120 The reason it sometimes seems like there is less anger might partly be due to the rise in popularity of non-Western film industries such as Bollywood, Hong Kong cinema, and K-dramas.

3. You play as an English man for 8 hours and then a Native American who won battles for America himself (not historically accurate)
In 4 your a WELSH man in the CARIBBEAN. Yeah he was totally born and raised there you got that one.
Valhalla your a Norseman in England, Ireland, France, and Norway.
Not to mention in Revelations your an Italian guy in Turkey. Gtfoh with that obviously disingenuous shit lol 😂
@@darryljack6612 Black Flag's fictional location is not west Indies but Caribbean and revelation's stroy spans on Ezio trying to find key that was hidden by Altair in Constantinople. Thus my point still stands. The heros of the story had strong tie with the region.
The developer of the series has presented with historical accurate not me. This is a video game I expect entertainment nothing more. But I suspect the series has tainted with political BS.
Yasuke who is from African descent fighting in Japan as Samurai is far fetched as much as a Chinese sailor fights colonial British Empire force in north Africa along side with worriers from that region.
My favorite tell is “well such such and I’m black”😂😂😂
Don’t forget, Keanu Reeves was in 47 Ronin. Another white male main character in Japan fighting demons
Yup
Let's make an Asian character to be the representation of Africa in next the Assassin Creed game , DIVERSITY EVERYBODY HELL YEAH
There has been more movies and games that take place in Africa where the main character is a foremother there has been about foreigners
I’m white af. But I can’t wait for this game it looks awesome. Afro samurai is my top 3 fav anime ever who tf cares if they’re black lol
Nah ill pass on this pandering garbage
really hyped for this game
You and almost no one else. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@jeremymain7303 me
fr bro everyone is so negative
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me too can't wait
There actually was an honest to god white samurai. He wasn't a fake ass page. He was in the country for more than three years. He did things.
Cry harder.
Not to mention Nioh
@@jeremymain7303 It's a game and you're getting so bent out of shape about it.
If you watched The Last Samurai you would understand why no one complained about it. But hey, we just want to leave out that entire story the movie told and forget how every single AC main protagonist was completely fictional right?
go and look up William Adams iam sick and tide of explaing him it like talking to a brick wall with people who use this strawman William Adams was a real samurai who became a hero in Japan and they give him that position has a thank you to him
The vocal crowd is small in hindsight. They leech onto every new game. The last 3 years every release has to have controversy it’s honestly damaging to the community and I’m sick of it. It’s why I really only watch TBH every other news outlet or RUclipsr feeds into it.
Is one thing I think that we all forgetting if sweet baby ink is a part of it is going to suck either way me personally I understand why some people may be mad because some people think it’s just pandering and I understand that but I’ve been asking for assassin‘s Creed game in Japan for a while And I think we’re focusing on the wrong stuff because we know most sweet baby inc games suck
Let's not forget that Ubisoft is a scumbag company before people buy the game
Love how people act like Ubisoft and Sweet baby Inc don't have the worst track record and deserve a fair shot lmao
Dude. Playing the race card is dumb as hell. Fans of AC have been wanting an AC game placed in fuedal Japan for a long ass time. They finally create one and only one of the playable characters is Japanese. Furthermore, playing the race card is even more dumb when you can literally play as Adewale in Black Flag, and Aveline in AC: Liberty. Don't act like there hasn't been a black main character in AC before that AC fans did not have an issue with.
I seen a lot of white streamers with big names happy to play this game and saying that yasuke might be they new favorite character and new fans are coming saying they think they play assassins creed now an still you ppl go on an on an on bout something that is not effecting you at all what is the game gone bring u if the character was Japanese rich fame immortality shut the fuck up an go play ghost of Tsushima like nigga shut the fuck up bruh
Who cares it's still fictional so why does it matter?
@@LacTose90 immersion? people kinda expect japanese people when they go to japan, specially in feudal japan... I know, weird...
@@avefenixflamesthere are so many Japanese people in the game, probably 99% of the characters actually
@@Zee216 and yet the other "1%" is the main playable character (well, 0.5 since is half of the main characters)... what are the odds!? Surely it was just coincidence and totally not a conscious decision.
