Those glasses must be magic. When they're on Brent is all neat and proper, when they're off he's back to his awesome goofy self, burping up a storm. Love that dude.
But think about it for a sec... if you’re writing a solo, nothing’s been written before you start creating. At first you’re improvising as you’re writing, no one’s outlining what you should and shouldn’t do, you just do it keeping what sounds good removing what doesn’t. 🙂
Brent might have lost some of his language skills, but with his gift of conveying artistic madness and ingenuity into beautiful music he is able to communicate more emotion in one solo than a thousand pages of poems, in a way that really speaks to your soul. When he says he lives to play guitar solos, I think this is an undeniable truth. May he give us a lot more of that dirty hindsy goodness.
It's insane to me that the solos Brent does are the first take.... in many ways more impressive than most jazz solos (which are based around set chord changes) because they always end up sounding like their own mini songs with a beginning, middle and end. Amazing.
fucking brent just does the most badass solo on the whole album (2nd to the czar) and just smiles and says "yeah im fine with that". also it was so cool to hear the raw guitar track of the solo, you can hear every note to learn it perfectly
Its the bit where it does the little Bill and Ted riff right in the middle of an already awesome solo. Thats what will always seal divinations as one of the best songs ever.
@@AsAugustSleeps This is after the incident. Technically speaking, I think it's partly because as Mastodon became increasingly popular, he just felt at odds with media attention and also, had a lot of personal problems with his life
@@subutaynoyan5372 Ah good to know. Last time I saw them he was so drunk he couldn’t perform. They were honestly one of the worst live performances I have seen.
@@subutaynoyan5372 I think he really slumped in just...giving a shit after his brother's unfortunate passing, dealing with that with a smashed up brain musta sent him over the edge a bit
I can't believe they used a FIRST ACT guitar to make part of this masterpiece. Maybe I've got it all wrong. I need to run to Wal-Mart and pick up one so I too can be a legend.
First Act has (or had) a custom shop where they made quality instruments for artists who could afford a guitar made to their specifications. The ones at WM and Target are made with cheap materials and probably aren’t worth souping up.
Dude I’ve been wanting to watch this documentary for so damn long! I’m so glad they put it out again. Coolest “making of” doc I’ve ever seen. This album is 100% the definition of Classic. Fuckin A this gets my jolly’s going.
I think this was the last time Brent was really intersted in explaining the writing proccess behind the album LOL these days he´s just messing around, never being serious :D
Brent was just not as polluted as much as today back then. That's why he sounds much more comprehensible in most parts. But that later part without glasses, again him, having a few beers.

Man, Brent with and without glasses is like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hinds.
lmfao I literally spat out my milo xD
That is both accurate and hilarious.. I commend thee
He reminds me a lot of my high school social teacher actually.
@@lordiblees poor Milo.

I was gonna say, he's way too articulate when wearing those things.
Dude was on tons of meds after getting knocked out and concussed by the SOAD crew lol
Find someone that smiles at you like Brent smiles when hearing his solo.
The solos on this album were improvised?! It has some of the best damn solos I've ever heard.
That's just Brent really, most of his solos are.
But think about it for a sec... if you’re writing a solo, nothing’s been written before you start creating. At first you’re improvising as you’re writing, no one’s outlining what you should and shouldn’t do, you just do it keeping what sounds good removing what doesn’t. 🙂

I dont know why but studio videos like this are so interesting to watch, and I find them so inspiring as well
Well... Time to listen to this entire album again.
This was the first Mastodon Album I heard and I've been hooked ever since.
Joe Pierce before this album I disliked mastodon, but after this I grew a new appreciation
Same here.
Booked Mountain was my entrée.
Yesss !
Really nice to see Brent properly talking and giving and interview and being normal in front of the camera for a while.
No matter how many times I listen to the Crack the Skye album, it never fails to be a transcendental experience
When this album came out, it no joke changed my life forever. Still my favorite album.
Listen to Last Breath by Hatebreed. It'll change your life
You're telling me Brent did that solo first take? Holy shit, that's one of his best solos
Brent, with a giant face tat, saying you can tell Bill is the most heavy metal of them because of his haircut will always get me 🤣🤣🤣
It's insane to me that the solos Brent does are the first take.... in many ways more impressive than most jazz solos (which are based around set chord changes) because they always end up sounding like their own mini songs with a beginning, middle and end. Amazing.
I am SHOCKED at how serious Brent is. Also that solo is just nasty.
So nastyc:

Brent just played the most insane and beautiful guitar solo known to man and goes "yeah, I'm happy with it."
Brent’s guitar work is always unreal
Its the bit where it does the little Bill and Ted riff right in the middle of an already awesome solo. Thats what will always seal divinations as one of the best songs ever.
Brent has some brilliant solos on CTS but his solo on Oblivion is my favorite....so incredibly beautiful and powerful
Bill was not that intimidating until he grew the 'stache. #fearthe'stache
That's the first and last time I've seen Brent making any sense when talking and answering questions.
I think after that incident where he got beat up, he’s never been quite the same

*_I love all the albums!_*
That Divinations solo is soo Dick Dale. Amazing.
I friggin' love this album!
at 1.09 I can heard a little bit of Thin Lizzy Emerald in there. What a really great band Mastodon are, God bless them all for their music
I love this band soo much!!!
Espero poder verlos en vivo pronto!!!
🇧🇴🤘🏼
I wanna see more Troy Sanders cmon
You'll get it kind sir 🤓
One of my all time faves!!!

H. First Act makes amazing 9 string guitars. Matt Pike from High on Fire / Sleep uses them as well. They also have a budget guitar line for beginners.
First Act has (or had) a custom shop where they made quality instruments for artists who could afford a guitar made to their specifications. The ones at WM and Target are made with cheap materials and probably aren’t worth souping up.
Take note kids, these guys are fucking legends!
I love watching all of there "Making" videos... it makes me feel a lot closer to the band
Just a tad but it isn't enough!
Their*
Bill being fan of Star Wars
Made my day
Guys look at that wall
That guy understands life goals better than many of us XDD JAJAJAJAJAJ
Brent is an AWESOME guitarist
The surf part in Divinations is so badass.

This album played a key part in the changing of my life. Thank you Mastodon!
Divinations my fav Mastodon song
Look at them 😍 these guys loves what they did 🏋️🕺🏻💪🙏🏆🤘
Legend has it Brent is still playing that solo to this day....
I want to know more about that 9 string guitar. I've seen it in a few of their studio videos.
5:16 The first time listening to a new Mastodon song
0:37 nice house Troy
This was a great album they really put their heart and soul into it!
Great solo
Brent's style is fucking great
Back when Brent was semi sober, still a damn good guitarist though.
There is an alt universe where the other three guys are weird as sin, while Brett is the Only Sane Person.
As Brett morphed into Brent, he trancended his sanity
After watching all this videos, Ive come to the conclusion that maybe, JUST POSSIBLY...
Bill likes Star Wars. Just a guess, but I've got a hunch.
1:48 That look you make when you played a tasty riff.
That is one sweet Telecaster!
Finally!
A god damn first act guitar
Dude where do I get me one of those custom mastodon 9 strings??
Karl_with_a_K_ the devil custom made it from dragon scales and saber tooth tiger penis.
@Dylan Gruenloh they also made one for Matt Pike of Sleep and High on Fire. Its a shame First Act makes shitty guitars now 😒
First act 12 string, only double up the high E, B and G strings
@Dylan Gruenloh Really? I didn't realize that they still have their custom shop! That's cool
Seth Rogen is an amazing guitarist.
1:40 "uhh heh heh heh hehh!"
I fucking love that silverburst first act custom.
I think this was the last time Brent was really intersted in explaining the writing proccess behind the album LOL these days he´s just messing around, never being serious :D
That's wild that the Divinations solo was on a 10 string.
Yeah
Watch Bill again at 4:04... Eugene from the Walking Dead? Anybody?
Man, Bill really aged like fine wine. 😂 he looked rough back in the day.
Sippin' on sum sizzurp 2:32

100 watts of purrre fuckin metal
I saw someone comment something about first act on another video and am realizing they actually used one lmao
Was that a First Act guitar?
Emilio yeah. Their USA stuff is actually top notch.

Was that twinkel toes i saw?
Brent is God
👏😎
Swiggity swooty
6.00 Me when i heard this record the first time !!
Is that a 10 string guitar?
I want your Godzilla shirt lol
Admit it, you only invited Brendan over so you could play with his toys. I had friends like that too.
This is basically jackass if they were a band, I mean, we've got Bam magera haha
Posted 4 Seconds Ago Club
Brent Hines is sooooo amazing😈
Here’s how I wrote guitar solos, I don’t
Likes star Wars???
I only now realize how similar Brent and Post Malone look
Except that Brent has actual talent.

Surely you're not saying tattoos aren't allowed on guys who like metal? That's the funniest shit I've heard in some time man
