Just imagine... the year is 2005. *phone rings* Gibson: "Hi, Gibson guitars, how can I help you?" Brent: "You guys ever made a Silverburst Custom Flying V?" Gibson: "No" Brent: "What the hell is the problem, then?" Gibson: "We'll make you one" Brent:" 'kay bye"
Imagine if Brent also worked at Gibson. *phone rings* Brent Gibson: "What?!" Brent Hinds: "You guys ever made a silverburst custom Flying V?" Brent Gibson: "Who wants to know??" Brent Hinds: "A guy with a lot of money, you son of a bitch!" Brent Gibson: "What, are you my brother from another mother or something?" Brent Hinds: "You heard me!" Brent Gibson: "Bye motherfucker!" Brent Hinds: "Bye bitch!" Brent Gibson: "..." Brent Hinds: "...So it'll be on my porch soon?" Brent Gibson: "Sure thing!" *clonk*
I went to their meet and greet at a show this year and they acted like they were as excited to meet us fans as we were to meet them. Very humble dudes.
This is an aspect I so respect and enjoy of musicians of Mastodon's caliber--their knowledge is vast. Yes, they create amazing music. Beat, sound, tone, complexity with lyrics that engage and hold me. But they're amazing humans. Every time I hear a member of Mastodon interviewed I enjoy it. They're solid, real. Nothing phony. They love each other and the songs. They're funny! Troy and Brann have made me laugh out loud on numerous occasions. Beyond all that, though, added to all of that, comes this language they are all fluent in. Listen to them talk about their instruments, all the parts of each piece, what each bit of gear does. I hear the same when they talk about the music itself, the facets of music composition. They aren't just players of great music. They're artisans.
To the people mocking the interviewer, maybe he's just a bit nervous being backstage chatting with awesome (and famous) musicians? I suppose you guys think you'd be the very image of cool if you were in his place
I'm not complaining about the interviewer, but I wouldn't be nervous backstage talking with famous musicians, and neither should anyone else. They're just people. No reason to be nervous.
Gojra use solid state amp modeling heads running straight into the PA system with only the switch pedals to go between pre-sets that come with those amp heads. You can look up their guitars and basses via google. *flies away
I love these gig rundowns!!! You guys do a grand job, I find myself watching them over and over again. I've picked up all these small tips and tricks and it makes me look like I like I know what I'm doing haha. It would be grand if you guys did a gig rundown for Being As An Ocean!!!
I'm so glad y'all did another rr for mastodon even though the same thing happened like the last one. But thankfully we got see there whole rig for the most part. I hope next time we get to see all the guitars.
I got to play troys signature fender in a bass shop in London. Absolutely amazing bass I would only change the fretboard from rosewood to maple though.
I saw them in Melbourne a few months ago, and the setlist there was the same setlist seen at 16:19...with the addition of Blood and Thunder at the end. And they were awesome - I might go see them again next time they come. Also, I can tell you (since there's no detail of that in this video) that Brent's Lucite V was used for drop C, his silver burst V was used for drop A, and for the D standard stuff, Brent used an SG.
I just got Bill's new 'Halcyon' Les Paul, probably the nicest electric guitar I've ever played and can't stop plating it! Really cool to see him with it and talk about it. Would love to get one of those JJ amps but that guitar ate all my money :p
Noah Petersen True! Although, to be fair, he is right. I can only assume he's referring to the AGCFAD tuning they like to use (especially on Remission)
Griffin Bain Oh he totally is. As a guitar player, my love for that tuning is only growing. Haha. I was just pointing out he was trying to cover his tracks. c:
I remember doing a rig rundown with Brent before a Four Hour Fogger show (Troy was in that band as well). He had a Les Paul going straight through his amp and had killer tone. He said he did not like pedals at all and preferred an organic sound. In hindsight (Bent Hindsight - ha) I think maybe he did not have the dough (although here his pedals are pretty simple). He also did not play solos in FHF either (he did in another band Fiend Without a Face).
I saw them in Savannah right after they released their first demo.. Troy was the lead on vocals and the tracks were much harder than they are now. They played everything from the first album and ripped, wish they maintained that sound instead of going more cerebral. For those unaware, Troy was also in a band called Social Infestation before Mastodon, more of a crust/sludge sound
Premier Guitar has a fantastic team. Perry is the camera operator for a lot of these Rundowns. He’s not super comfy in front of the camera. So what. He gets the job done. To all the armchair warriors who throw shade on him, shut up and get the in arena or just shut up. Great work PG!
andrewt248 I saw them at the Boston House of Blues(which even tho it's the biggest house of blues so far,it's still wicked small) and it was an INCREDIBLE experience. 20 songs of greatness real close up 👌🏻
The first time I saw mastodon (w/BTBAM.. 2010?) was in a smallish theater with no open floor, all seats. It was awesome. I wanted to jump around but I was just as happy to sit back and be amazed by the musicianship
Y'all need to try and get Gojira for one of y'all's next rundowns. Those guys guitars sound like they could knock a brick building over. Keep up the good work, love these videos!
this is the most sober and coherent I have ever seen Brent
Sketch's Tears it’s unsettling, honestly
...and he does burp.
I really didnt expect him to take it as seriously as he did. Super cool of him.
Does the fastest Rig Rundown of all time
Probably because he actually enjoyed this instead of typical interviews
They are literally the guys up the street hanging out in an open garage, guzzling beer. The ultimate dudes next door, only they are insane musicians.
true. threw football around and drank carlo rossi with brent in 2003
Yep, not so much Billy now but Brent Bran & Troy will still have a beer with you! Most down to earth "rockstars" I've ever got to meet .
Just imagine... the year is 2005.
*phone rings*
Gibson: "Hi, Gibson guitars, how can I help you?"
Brent: "You guys ever made a Silverburst Custom Flying V?"
Gibson: "No"
Brent: "What the hell is the problem, then?"
Gibson: "We'll make you one"
Brent:" 'kay bye"
It probably went exactly like that tbh
Probably sold it to him for 10Grand too
Interviewer:"..very very cool"
Imagine if Brent also worked at Gibson.
*phone rings*
Brent Gibson: "What?!"
Brent Hinds: "You guys ever made a silverburst custom Flying V?"
Brent Gibson: "Who wants to know??"
Brent Hinds: "A guy with a lot of money, you son of a bitch!"
Brent Gibson: "What, are you my brother from another mother or something?"
Brent Hinds: "You heard me!"
Brent Gibson: "Bye motherfucker!"
Brent Hinds: "Bye bitch!"
Brent Gibson: "..."
Brent Hinds: "...So it'll be on my porch soon?"
Brent Gibson: "Sure thing!"

Of all the rig run downs I have watched Mastadon seemed like the most cordial and down to earth dudes ever.
I was thinking the same thing.
I went to their meet and greet at a show this year and they acted like they were as excited to meet us fans as we were to meet them. Very humble dudes.
The guys of Mastodon are just great people who write even better music.
I had the pleasure of meeting them last year in San Diego, and they the nicest, most approachable people.
You should watch Larry Lalonde from Primus. You'll get the same Vibe for sure.
I love when the artists themselfs do their own rundowns.
Gojira and Mastodon on the same tour
Goddamn that’s a dream show
If Opeth were there it would be even better.
Saw that in 2014. Definitely one of my favorite shows I've been to
Gotta say, all the pfp’s from this thread are glorious!
Gojira, baroness, and Mastodon
It happened once
Idk why but Bill seems like the most wise down to earth guy. Just seems like a really cool dude.
He is, .meet him once after a show in Montréal, most down to earth man i known
@@SebastienGagnonlevrai cool to hear, he followed me on insta ideky lol
3:29 the envelop is way... burp.. more dramatic
I laughed so hard only cause this comment xDDD
Brent Sanchez
Even better ... at 3:29 slow down to .25 and turn the volume way up
@@CS-yj8sd Funnier!!! Beeeeerp...
@@CS-yj8sd wwwwwaaaaaaaahhhhhhh llllliiikkkee a rrrrruuuubbbbeerrrr bbbaaaannndddd 😂
I would like to see their rig revisited, Bill has got some great new Esp:s and Brent has been playing a lot of cool SG:s lately.
Also Brent's Orange amp too
Brent also is playing some sweet esp’s.
It's so nice to see rundown where the band actually knows what they're talking about
"Paid very handsomely for it"
Welcome to Gibson
Finally an interviewer that knows his shit!
We need an updated Mastodon rig guys. Considering how endorsements and such have changed for the band, it'd be really killer to see the modern setup.
Yes!!! Slipknot as well. Maybe Alter Bridge too 🤘🏼🤷🏽♂️
Prolly one of the most normal interviews they've ever done lol
This is an aspect I so respect and enjoy of musicians of Mastodon's caliber--their knowledge is vast. Yes, they create amazing music. He doesn't even seem nervous to me. Tbf I would be shitting it talking to them. Especially Brett.
Stephen Owen Brent
oh yeah sorry haha I have a habit of doing that
I'm not complaining about the interviewer, but I wouldn't be nervous backstage talking with famous musicians, and neither should anyone else. They're just people. No reason to be nervous.
mastadon kicks ass. i love their gear. especially that jag bass.
It's nice to hear them mention trying to put a good show on for the fans, subtle but shows their appreciation!
These guys are so polite and laid back. I already loved their music, now I cherish the band even more 🤘🏼
I think that's the most serious i've ever seen Brent in a video.
Perry rocks. He's very honest, real and down with the gear he's talking about.
I'd be stoked to talk a bit about gear with my faves.
A wild Brann Dailor appears at 1:50
My Definitive ABSOLUTE Favourite Band these days !!
>>>>>>>>>>>>MASTODON
Jimi Hendrix woah jimi I thought you were dead
Finally an episode that this reviewer did actually pretty well!
Loving this one, thanks!
Bill gives his signature stuff the best names. I love them all.
I've seen them live and when bill says they don't stop, he is not exaggerating. They're rocked and like he also said, I really vibed with it
There's a Gojira banner behind. Why isn't there a Gojira rig rundown? I DEMAND IT DAMNIT!
This^
Yenasty5 easter eggs lol
Gojra use solid state amp modeling heads running straight into the PA system with only the switch pedals to go between pre-sets that come with those amp heads. You can look up their guitars and basses via google. *flies away
A Bond What kinda bs are you talking about? They use EVHs.
Yenasty5 they go straight into zoom 505 pedals, on the factory settings.

Cool to see a pro playing a Mexican made bass and not some prototype we'll never get.
I think besides his old P Bass, Steve Harris actually uses his MIM signature basses as backups and for smaller shows with British Lion.
I'm so glad y'all did another rr for mastodon even though the same thing happened like the last one. But thankfully we got see there whole rig for the most part. I hope next time we get to see all the guitars.
Love the burp at 3:29 lol
Humble and appreciative, these guys are very cool. No ego. Incredible considering the quality of what they're putting out
It's about time u guys do it again... Bill's rig changed a bit with the ESP's, and it's always good to see what Brent's playing...
Anyone reminded of Skwissgar from Metalocalypse during Bill's interview? Just constantly playing.
Hahahahahahahaha yeah xD
He's in the zone...he's innocent
I got to play troys signature fender in a bass shop in London. Absolutely amazing bass I would only change the fretboard from rosewood to maple though.
This man's name is Bill Keliher and he's a god damn legend warming up on that guitar while giving an interview
Been waiting for this! Good job interviewing!
I saw them in Melbourne a few months ago, and the setlist there was the same setlist seen at 16:19...with the addition of Blood and Thunder at the end. And they were awesome - I might go see them again next time they come.

Wow, I've never seen Brent so well behaved on camera, haha.
14:48 Troy's bass made in Mexico!
I like bills view on giving the audience a experience of pure musical awesomeness
I just got Bill's new 'Halcyon' Les Paul, probably the nicest electric guitar I've ever played and can't stop plating it! Really cool to see him with it and talk about it. Would love to get one of those JJ amps but that guitar ate all my money :p
13:03
"Brent and Bill from Mastodon.."
Oh. I thought you meant the other Brent and Bill...
Maybe this isn't the Troy from Mastodon... xD
Noah Petersen the ones who own the dry cleaners down on 5th Street ? Yeah they too are a couple of rockstars living their dreams
It's all business, so he doesnt remember who his band mates are hahaha.
did brent burp in the middle of explaining his pedalboard?
Yes
It must be called a 'brurp'
It's an extension of his effects
Yes, and a hardy one at that.
Thanks for showing the bass rig!
without doubt the most lucid Brent interview i have ever seen.
Post injury Brent is even more cuz he had to be clean for treatment, but yeah, this was pretty awesome to see
Love these guys, and really cool seeing all of their setups.
Awesome rundown, would love to see an updated one if you can get it!
I'm getting that Bill Kelliher Les Paul now....That thing looks amazing! The exact look and set up I have been looking for.
3:29
This Wah Morty *burp* its the best wah *burp* Morty. All kinds of *burp* tones Morty
It wasn't Brent 😅
Brent burped in this guy's face lmfao

"Brent said as low as A"
LIAR. YOU SAID THAT.
I was thinking the same thing xP
Noah Petersen True! Although, to be fair, he is right. I can only assume he's referring to the AGCFAD tuning they like to use (especially on Remission)

Yep. Brent said they use 10-52 with a 60 thrown on top.
thumbs up for that burp at 3:28 hahah
"I don't like metal anymore" - the guy who has a carcass patch on
Jake Himelfarb he dosent like alot of metal like more modern stuff but he likes other stuff
Jake Himelfarb
That’s B. Hinds for ya.
love how bill can't stop noodling
Warm ups
15:17 who would say I was going to own one these 3 years later. When being a live musician paid off ♡
Gojira stage flag @ 4:58. I was lucky enough to see them both when they came to New Zealand together. It was a phenomenal night
And they all played with borrowed gear
That's the healthiest looking I've ever seen Brent come across in one of these videos.
GOJIRA DRUM KIT!
Totally was at the venue when I saw them play.
Cool to see how much Bill kinda runs the flow of the show from his board
The only interview Brent is cooperative and chats properly.
WOW THAT WAS GR8 I LOVE THAT BAND
Very cool.
bill has a gojira wristband anyone notice that
Drew Wagnon I was about to say that
You sure like Gojira, huh?
please do another interview with these guys
I cant believe Brent is from my hometown in Alabama. Awesome band.
Gojira banner in the back, guaranteed to have been one of the coolest concerts ever
Bill Kelliher looks like one of the nazis from Breaking Bad
Russel Blacker lol spot on
Troy... the best beard in metal and one of the best people EVER!
I'm just drooling over the gojira drum kit behind them
Shout to wren and cuff! I've been using that pedal for nearly ten years, it's the best fuzz I've ever used
I have a 76 Marshall JMP 2 amp as well. Killer amp
Was at this show in Nashville. It sounded so damn good.

I love how Brent says "the top one" when hes talking about the pickups 😂
Kvelertak rundown please! :)
I was at this show in Nashville good stuff.
1:46, Brann Dailor cameo.
I saw them in Savannah right after they released their first demo.. Troy was the lead on vocals and the tracks were much harder than they are now. Btw brent said his vh4 was a 98 but that version of the vh4 didnt come out till 03. His amp is an 03 to 07.
the interviewer looks like he would be a GC salesman
That's a tiny venue. It'd be awesome to see these guys in a small joint!
andrewt248 I saw them at the Boston House of Blues(which even tho it's the biggest house of blues so far,it's still wicked small) and it was an INCREDIBLE experience. 20 songs of greatness real close up 👌🏻

All interviews with Brent and you'll hear him burp. Too funny.
Very down to earth dudes.
Such cool dudes.
Troy is such a mellow dude.

...what can I say?... I love this guys!
10:20, a little bit of scorpion breath
+Premier Guitar should do a rig rundown for Anathema's Danny & Vincent Cavanagh.
who gives a shit about their gear?
me rig is life!
Весьма информативно!
Большое спасибо!!
I’ve watched this so many times and I still laugh when Troy says Bill and Brent “from Mastodon”
Really Great!!
3:29 excelente "efecto", gran pedal...
Good rundown, a little short sadly. Cool gear, especially Bill's! I chuckled at "Kevelertak". :P
if you`re on the venue where both Mastodon and Gojira is playing, please make a rig rundown with Gojira as well!
Love the bass
