Careful with the larger oil filter. When turning the rod that turns the left wheel, it was rubbing on the lower backside of the filter. It wore a hole in the filter at the end of mowing season. Had a tiny drip, could not find the leak. Moved again and lost almost a quart. Really pays to check oil level before using. On my XTi L42 from 2019 the filter lays flat, not upright.
Why change your oil every year if it doesn't need it? My old mower an older cub than yours but has the same engine I changed it at 200 hours that's what it had when I got it. 6 years have passed it's got 235 hours always checks out full on the dipstick still runs great. If the carb malfunctioned and gas filled the crankcase then definitely change the oil but under normal conditions don't waist the money.
My cub cadet was given to me, it's a 05 model.. about to hit 500 hours. The guy that had it changed the oil once a year. It don't cost much to change the oil it's not like it holds much. Just change it. Fresh oil is never not better.

The chart in the manual about the oil is showing the oil you should use based on the air temperature.
