You deserve extra "likes" for this well-documented video. You described all the "tricky" bits including clutch cable removal and idler guide positioning. Particularly important was your comment regarding flat-sided belts! I wish I had viewed your video before I attempted my belt replacement (yes, I had the belt V-side in!). I wish there was any way to ensure that, rather than paging through multiple postings, RUclipsrs with 42-inch decks ONLY watched your excellent work, this would save many heartaches! Well done Sir!

Whenever I watch a RUclips instructional video (as a former teacher) I am fairly critical, but you rocked it out in every way! Yesterday, the belt broke on our Cub Cadet XT1 42" and today it became my job to replace the broken belt. The manual was fairly useless to someone like me, who doesn't often mow lawns and never repairs lawnmowers. Your video was amazing. It took me a lot longer than the video to do the replacement but it's done and I couldn't have done it without you! !Thanks a million!

Great job again! All killer, no filler! I love that for the most part your vids are shot in real time. This gives me a general idea of how long it might actually take me. When you get stuck (as I'm sure I will) you show how to get out of that problem instead of using the magic of editing. I hate when some videos cut away from the hard stuff. They'll show you what goes where, cut away, then show you the part in place. Clearly they had a hard time getting it there so I know I will, too. Thanks for "showing your work" as my math teacher used to say.

Great video! The process was pretty much the same as on my old Troy-Bilt SuperBronco, but your video did a great job pointing out the particulars of the XT1. FYI, as an experiment, I installed the new belt without removing the deck: just dropped it to the lowest level and there was enough clearance to remove the spindle covers and loosened the tensioner pulleys. Access was a little tight, but it can be done and saved a few steps.

My belt ripped away after 68 hours of mowing. When replacing the belt I gave this video a look and found one of the belt-keepers had shifted and was responsible for tearing up the belt. It could not have happened if it was in the slot shown by your video. If it had been installed correctly by Cub Cadet at assembly this would not have happened as the pulley was mounted tight. Nice job with the video. By the way, I soon substituted those difficult butterfly clips with hitch pins which had been used on mowers for years.

Hi Lester, I have noticed the quality control coming out of the factory on these machines in the last two years and dramatically decreased. I have seen issues like yours showing up. Nowhere, absolutely NO WHERE does cub cadet tell you about the 2nd spring on the deck. “Oh hey, so yeah like the mower legit doesn’t operate without that ONE spring and it’s not in the manual nor anywhere online - you’re welcome”.
Ahem, Cub Cadet, your operators manual is missing some key information. Had to sneak a peek at this video just to find out I need that part to make it all work again. It was sheared, missing half of the spring and was hard to tell what it’s for…put everything back together and tried running but blade engaged without manually changing so wondered what was up…it’s gotta be this part and amazing that it’s so important and no where can you find this in any cub cadet information. UNREAL!
Thank you Sir for posting, great video!

This video was insanely helpful and really the only one I could find that actually show exactly what to do in a clear concise way. So thank you.
    CHEATER GUIDE:
To add to the already valuable information though, I was able to do this in 10 minutes without removing the deck at all. Just lower the deck as far as it goes, remove the pulley covers, put a 9/16 wrench under the left silver pulley and loosen the top nut to remove the guard, and for the second pulley all you have to do is slightly bend the guard out just a bit. I know this isn't the proper way but it was so quick and easy to do I don't see why you wouldn't do this every time. Bent it out about a quarter of an inch and then bent it right back. Looks exactly the same. That's literally it. Simple and easy with half of the hassle. 🚜

I'm glad it was helpful and yes, to each their own. Most mower decks if your very mechanically inclined, you can reach in and perform the task but you do not get to check your mower deck for issues (why the belt broke?) or perform simple tasks like checking all pulleys and bearings easily. I try and make my videos so anyone can do it! and you even learn how to take off the mower deck! It's all good. Thank you for watching and the kind comment. Please share my channel and give it a thumbs up to help it grow! It would be greatly appreciated.

The one in this video is a Milwaukee 1/4" ratchet 12 volt. I would suggest Harbor Freight for a less expensive one but not by much. You may be able to get a better deal on a 3/8" electric ratchet but my right hand is getting weaker every year and the 1/4" ratchet is lighter and easier for me to handle.

I hate to be that guy to talk about ur disability but I wanted to say that ur one hard working man that many people can learn from. I own a auto repair shop, I’ve been a professional auto technician for 20 years and I worked on mowers all the time with my grandpa before working on cars and I know many mechanics that couldn’t tear apart this mower and put it back together as fast as you did. Again I’m sorry to come on here talking about ur disability but I had to say something, u really are kicking some ass better then most people without disabilities. God bless my friend!

Also thanks for making the video! My girlfriend was mowing the lawn and my belt came off. Mower is only a few years old with like 120 hours on it. I bought a new belt but I didn’t see any reason why it should have came off. So weird how loose mower belts are when the blades aren’t on

Yes, the machines that have manual blade engagement. The belts seem to be very loose but you do not want the engine pulleys to wear the belt or you can get a bad shake from a bad spot in the belt.
