Mr. Johnson, 2 things. 1I changed my brake this last season. I just looked and the rivets are located between the upper and lower part of the pulley. so the rivets won't be grinding on my pulley. 2 I took the time to stretch the spring just a little to take some of the tension out of it. It seems to work better. I have a cub cadet XT1 42 inch. 2018 I believe. I had to put a whole thing on my deck. Great video. I thank you for yout videos. wether I use them are not.
Mr. Johnson, this video is gold. I need to do this exact replacement. Thanks for another super-clear video. BTW, I cannot move my lower legs, but I do the best I can with issue slike this. Seeing you make these repairs so effortlessly with your limitation really inspires me. God bless you!
Thank you Brad for the training video,my friend and I are finally going to get the new engine in my John deere tractor D110 next Sunday, I'll make a video of it when I get time, thanks 😊
Can you do a video for replacing the the brake assembly for the spindle on the opposite side (753-09904A & 732-05151A)? I've run into an issue where the original torsion spring broke. However when trying to replace the spring, it seems as though the rod that connects both brakes together is pulling the brake pad away from the pulley, even when it should be engaged.
Thank you! Blade Brake? We own a 2017 Cub Cadet XT1 LT46 - I know the engine cuts-off whenever I lift my body off of the seat. I know the engine won't start unless the brake is pressed by my foot or I have the parking brake set and the deck is raised and locked in it upright position. I don't know if our model has a blade brake? However, I need to change the belt and blades - I believe they are the original parts. Due to much harder financial constraints, I need to do the maintenance and repairs. We paid a small local business - the first time they did a good job, but the second time we used them , they basically robbed us. I had my suspicions after the first service, so prior to the second service - I notated the year of the parts with permanent marker on each part! When we received the lawn equipment after the second service - I noticed that they did not change the parts.
I noticed on my cub cadet I have to change the blade break pad, so this is a great video! Thanks. Will this issue also cause the belt to keep coming off? Ours keeps coming off, so we replaced the belt last summer. This year we've used the mower 3 times and I've had to put the belt back on 3 times. Any ideas?
Watch this video on how to replace the belt. It may have the reason why your belt is falling off. ruclips.net/video/HNcbfGUd3XQ/видео.html. Most of the time I find belt guides either, missing or bent out of the way allowing the belt to drop off.
I'm glad it was helpful and thank you for the kind comment. Please give this video a like and share my channel to help it grow. Ity would be greatly appreciated!
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines I was watching a small engine repair video and the guy mentioned bringing the engine to idle before disengaging the blades. He claims this will help extend the life of blade brake pads. Sounds reasonable?
Hello, I have a very similar MTD 46 inch mower deck for a MTD YardMachines Garden Tractor 14AJ845H062 2000 year model with the mechanical PTO that I am having issues with the blade brake assembly on the mower deck, but for a different reason. For my blade brake assemblies, I have a homemade looking cable with a loop on each end that activates the blade brake from the PTO bracket to the right side blade brake assembly that keeps snapping the cable. The blade brakes appear to be free and not seized up. I have consulted the MTD diagram to make sure that the cable was correct.and not some fluke and from what I am seeing is that that OEM cable is now obsolete. I attempted to make a new cable out of repurposed throttle cable and it doesn’t appear to be heavy enough to last very long. I was wondering if you had encountered this issue before and what you had used to make up a new cable.. Regarding the pop rivets, TSC has in their selection of rivets what is known as “rivet washers” that fit onto the small side of the rivet to expand its area where the rivet pulls through. I am quite sure that other suppliers offer these washers in conjunction with their rivets. For my blade brakes, I may have to try replacing the brake material on my blade brakes in the very near future because I think that my OEM brake assemblies may also be obsolete. This tractor was gifted to me by a neighbor who was moving away and has been a really solid machine overal serving as a spare mower when my other mowers were out of service. Thanks so much for your great videos.
Great video. I went to Sears parts direct, and they quoted $145 for a new assembly and had no replacement for just the brake pad. You saved me about $120.00. One question, what difference does it make that they have the rivets in backwards since the pully touches the brake pad above and below the rivets. And if you don't have a pop rivet gun handy, any reason why you could not attach it with some small stainless bolts and locking nut? Thanks for your great videos.
Yes, I would use stainless steel screws and nuts. Take a pad with you to your local hardware store to make sure you get the correct size hopefully you can get stainless.(they will not rust). I would also suggest using red loctite so the nuts will not back out if you cannot get lock nuts.
Same exact type of deck for a 2020 Troy Bilt with the same issue of that spring being too tight. That one pad looks exactly like the one I've got. Owned the mower for 4 years and that pad wore down to that... that spring is way too tight.

Do you have a video for replacing the other side's deck brake? We bought the whole assembly

I have a 2017 Cub Cadet XT1 LT46. It does indeed have the blade brakes as shown in this video. And yes, I need to replace mine.
What size nut did you use on the rivet gun part?
Nice video!

You make awesome videos! What symptoms would show when this blade brake is going out?
Blades will not stop turning when you disengage the PTO or loud squeaky noise when brake pucks wear out.

I suspect that spring was designed by lawyers rather than engineers. The K is a little too high.
Can a Loose belt prevent the brake to disengage ??
No
good job
Thank you
I changed mine but the pulleys still spin when disengaged.. Help?!?
