I bought an old Club Cadet from a local "personality" whose lawn is festooned with mowers of all kinds, that he adopts, supposedly fixes up, and then resells. Had to replace just about everything once I got it home and running. Hired an 18-yo with his own Lawncare company to diagnose the issues & do the work. Runs like a charm now. I had never mown a lawn in my life until moved here. Always had a man to do that. Now on my own on a little farm. I have absolutely no idea about lawnmowers but believe it is my job to know the basics. I'll probably keep the 18 yo on hand to do all the work you're doing here, as he has the mechanics' tools and know how. But I still am forcing myself to learn some skills. I appreciate the silent approach here. Too much yammering on RUclips.

No need to prefill a horizontal filter. It will not only make a mess as shown in the video when you tip it, but will fill when you fill the crankcase. Also cut a piece of cardboard or an old plastic container and use under the filter prior to taking it off so the oil drains away into the pan and not all over your frame.
Recently purchased a house and the seller left behind this tractor, so I wanted to service it before use. Made it through your whole video and was planning to give you a thumbs up, until i saw that hideous Steelers logo on your Sienna! Last PicRic video i ever watch! haha jokes aside, great video, and thanks for the help. WHO DEY!
You’ve got to try the Amsoil saber in there for oil. I started running it in mine and it is verifiably cooler, smoother, and better running. Cleaned up a lot of gunk I had in there too. I also run a wix filter on it.
My XT1 started backfiring recently, any idea why? Thanks for the video, I was able to do the oil and air filter change, I don’t feel confident enough to tackle the fuel filter though.
@@PicRic it’s random, sometimes on starting, sometimes after cutting for about 30 minutes, as of today it’s a moot point, it suddenly quit and won’t even crank up now.
@@margaretodamo6784 Hi Margaret, this is third attempt to reply due to iffy internet in this location. In short, it could be fuel/quality/flow/filter, or electrical/safety switches/spark/plugs/wires/timing. Maybe it's best to get your local XT1 mechanic to have a gander at this stage. What do you think?
Hi BigAl, I change the oil when the exhaust fumes begin to smell. It's a sign the oil is past it and needs to be changed. It will also have gone very dark at this point. That might be once or twice in a year depending on use. The fuel filter is changed when the gas in it is looking a bit too dark as well. The air filter I change about once a year and the pre-filter oiling is recommended by the manufacturer. Greasing the joints is done a couple of times a year. When I first got the tractor, six years ago, I did everything by the book but after the first year I figured I could customize the maintenance to better match my usage.
Strictly speaking it depends on the engine fitted to the tractor. Mine is a KOHLER 7000 Series KT725 22 HP V-Twin and it takes 2 quarts US of 10w30 oil.
Where did you get that front bumper? Was that stock on yours? I have an XT1 that came with no bumper and paid $70 for a single bar bumper no where near that nice. Mine is the LT42 with the Kohler 5400 series engine.
It was an accessory that I got from Home Depot a few years ago now. I just looked it up on homedepot.com, "FastAttach Front Brush Guard Bumper for Cub Cadet XT1 and XT2 Lawn Mowers (2015 and After)". The internet code is 304974685. They are out of stock but you can sign up for notification of when the piece is available. Hope that helps.
@@PicRic Thanks, it does. I would have bought that instead if I knew about it. I bought the MTD Genuine Parts 19A30020OEM and it's very sturdy, no complaints.
Hi Vince. I can't remember where I got them - I've had them for decades. Google 'fuel line pinch clamps' to find similar tools from a range of outlets. They are very handy to have.
The service is based on the recommendations in the manuals that CC supplied with the tractor. It is five years old now so I guess their recommendations have changed.
This is exactly the kind of video I was looking for. Easy to follow and straight to the point. Thank you internet dad
Ha, ha! Thanks for that kiddo. I'm pleased to help.
Most impressive maintenance video I've EVER seen. Just getting things done!
Thank you sir, I feel well prepared for the tasks at hand.
I think Cub cadet has a lot to learn about building a riding lawn mower..😊

Came to say this! Thank you
Appreciated too! Thank you, FloydofOz.

Good points, John. Learning as I go. Thanks for sharing.
Aluminum foil also works well to redirect the oil since it does not absorb the oil and you can easily mold it to "funnel" down to your oil pan.
Great tip, Gamer.

Go Steelers!!!
Black and gold forever.
Picking my XT1 LT50 today! I won't need to do any of this stuff yet as dealer serviced already but saved this video for future use. Thanks my man :)
Great news, Mike. Enjoy your LT50 and bookmark this video for easy reference in the future.
Really nice tire inflating tool
Thanks. It's a Milwaukee M12 unit and it works really well.

Amsoil says 'Thank You'.
Wow💥 nice job !!! 🛠
Thank you, James.
I just purchased the XT1, and this was extremely helpful. Thank you.
Thanks, DJ. I appreciate the feedback.

There are many possible causes, Margaret. Under what circumstances does backfire happen?

Thanks, John!
Great vid I kept pausing and running over to Amazon to grab the tools I’m gonna need. BTW good god man really wish you wouldn’t talk so much!
Great feedback, Dave. There is no need to talk when the video says it all is there?!!
The clamps for the fuel line where can you purchase them?
These, or something similar, are available all over from Snap-On Tools (Blue-Point) to Harbor Freight and, of course, Amazon. Very handy they are too!
I need to know about the carb on a 18 hp koler xt1 5400 series
That's a wide ranging statement, Bob. Never had any issues with my carb'. What do you know so far?
Well done
Pleased to learn you find this video useful, Yasir.
Nice, I got the xt1 50 last summer. So do you change everything ever spring time. Like you did. And why did you rub the filter thing in the oil.

Outstanding
What type of grease did you use on the wheels? Red 'N Tacky by chance?
I'm not entirely sure now. I tend to use whatever is suitable and available in my local store. No. 2 multi-purpose grease is recommended.
How many oil quarter need to change ?

Very informative. Where did you get those clamps to block the fuel line while you changed the fuel filter?

Cub Cadets own channel does not oil the prefilter. Anyone run their mower without oiling the air filter’s prefilter?
The service is based on the recommendations in the manuals that CC supplied with the tractor. It is five years old now so I guess their recommendations have changed.
I wish you'd explain what you're doing ... I hear sounds, but no voice...
Isn't it straightforward, Viki? Do you this tractor? If not, point out the bit that has you stumped and I will explain it for you.
You handled that oil tube like I handle my pecker when I pee drunk! ;)
Really? Better see a doctor about that then, Rick.
NOT a garden tractor a fancy rider mower i have one ❤it not built to do anything else but mow trans is the weak ooint
Don't stop there, harold ... What does garden tractor mean to you?
