Thank you for this video it has helped me a lot. I lost my husband in 2021 and have been dreading doing anything to his lawnmower cause i wasn’t sure how cause he always did it. But you videos are very detailed and helpful so thanks again.
I'm sorry to hear about your husband but I'm very glad I could help make things easier for you. Comments like this are what keep me going on the channel! Any questions about anything mower related, just drop me a comment!
These are great videos and really informative! I bought the LT46 two days ago from Home Depot. I watched some videos that mentioned that the big box stores don’t really set them up correctly so I started watching this channel. Every night watching another one of these is helping me get mine set up correctly! Today I adjusted the tire pressures as you mentioned and set the blade height per another video you posted. That trick with the measuring stick was great. I ended up setting the deck height at 3” then cut my stick 3” long and used it to adjust the deck height down until the blade just came in contact with it. Then did the front adjustment. Tomorrow I’ll adjust the scalping wheels per your video. Then I’ll do the grease job in this video. I would agree that it would be better to use 3in1 oil rather than the WD40 on the oiled parts. I haven’t used the new tractor yet other than just to try it out because I want to get a good beginning by adjusting everything before I start using it. I think it should be pretty well set up to use after tomorrow but I’m keeping an eye out for more of your videos. Thanks again!
Good idea cutting the stick down to your normal cutting height. That’s a great idea. Don’t even need a pencil then. I use the WD40 because I discussed the greasing with my Cub Cadet dealer and he said “always keep it as light as possible - stick with the WD 40. It’s better to not have stuff get stuck everywhere under there.” So that’s what Ive always done 🤷🏻♂️ More videos to come on the Cub! Have lots of ideas brewing.
Remember to ALWAYS run the engine wide open, after maybe one-two minutes of warmup. With my 2019 LT42 18 HP Kohler single with only 109.6 hours died-head gasket, I "thought" that when pulling a fertilizer spreader that you could run at a low(er) speed since the blades were not under load.... BAD IDEA.... After research I found that an air cooled engine likes/needs to run wide open for proper cylinder COOLING.... Don't be a dummy and make my mistake....
@@ainttakenanyshit The issue is due to the oil “scooper” or dipper. (Think of it as a spoon dipping in the oil then flinging it up as it goes around) As the engine runs the scooper picks up oil from the bottom and throws it up to lubricate. When the motor is running at slow speed, obviously so is the scooper so the internal parts aren’t getting enough oil fast enough to do the job. That sucks about your motor but the head gasket isn’t really hard to replace at least. But make sure you replace the valve cover gasket at the same time.
@@TheNewenglandboys I follow you with a "splash" system, but, the 18 HP 5400 Kohler has a pressurized oil system and what I thought was OK to run slower engine speed wan not correct..
I see people in other videos complain that their spindles do not have grease zerks. They are sealed bearings and pumping grease in them would just push out the seals and let dirt in.
Yep. Exactly. I've seen people add zerks to maintenance free spindles and you really are not going to even get any grease into the actual bearing. It is sealed. Called maintenance free for a reason.
No problem! I've seen a lot of different opinions on that. Some people swear against it, some people do it. I normally leave it be! Rather not have dirt stuck up in there.
Hi maybe you can help me I can't find it on any video and the owner's manual is very vague the clean air filter notification keeps displaying and the air filter has been replaced and cleaned but the notification stays do you have any experience with this problem thanks in advance
Thanks- I wish front deck linkage had washer - plastic wheel bushings- have you looked up upgrades for them- not a big fan of plastic wheel bushings etc
I have looked into it and I may do it at some point. That's one difference that the XT2 models have. They come with real bearings, not these plastic bushings.
I was lucky enough to find an XT1 LT50 just last week being thrown away in my neighborhood.. 3 house around a corner.. (thanks to my wife calling me telling me about it).. it freakin looks brand new.. only problem is a locked up motor.. can't wait to do an engine rebuild.. kohler 7000 24 hp.. it will be fun to do.. going to keep this baby.. funny thing is, I just finished restoring my dad's (now mine) 1980 Snapper RER.. Btw, those plastic bearings (bushings) last a very long time, if properly maintained..
WD-40 is NOT a lubricant, it's a dispersant, that's what the "D" in WD stands for, it disperses water and lubricants. It is doing the opposite of what you want.
The XT2 zerks on the inside of the front wheels are unreachable..tried different angle fittings and gun attachments..Ive had to pull the fittings and leave it open now, I fill up to hole with grease and use magnetic tape to cover the opening
@@fixitFlip yup..they are on the inside hub portion so the clearance between the hub and inside of the rim is like a 1/2 inch so the grease gun coupler can't fit and no extensions can. I used to unscrew the zerks put grease in and screw back in now I just cover with magnetic tape
WD40 is about the worst spray lube you could put on anything. You want silicon spray or better yet, white lithium grease spray. Both will last far longer than WD40 and protect a lot better.
I do understand it is a very light oil. But my main goal is to get a little lube without something will get all kinds of debris stuck in it, like grease. I want to be able to blow it off with the blower and not have grass and dirt stuck in the grease.
@@fixitFlip no thank you! Now I can go take care of my fathers mower. I have deer e120 so it’s similar but I needed this video and a few others of yours thanks. His mower he bought has 200 hrs on it.

You’re welcome! Thank you, Mark! 👊🏻
I did the front turning bushes after 1 years ownership. What a difference. Didnt realize how stiff it had got over time.
Definitely makes a difference.
Thank you Flip!
Helped me out a ton!
No problem, glad I could help!

I grease the steering gear, on my old Cub Cadet I had to replace the gear at the end of the steering column. Great video, thanks!
No problem! I've seen a lot of different opinions on that. Some people swear against it, some people do it. I normally leave it be! Rather not have dirt stuck up in there.
@Fix it Flip correct.. growing up as a mechanic, dirt grit will stick and put premature wear on those gears..
I use Du Pont dry film spray with Teflon on the steering gear after every time I use the mower. Also on the throttle cable and governor assembly.
Greasing the steering will attract dirt.
Thank you GOOD SIR. I truely Appreciate this video, i thought the rear end had grease points too. Thank you for saving me time.
No problem, happy to help!

I'm sorry I have never dealt with that issue! I am going to do a video on the air filter this spring so I will do some research.
To the point video… are there any grease points on the mower deck and rear wheels on this model or xt2 with 42” deck?
Thanks. I'm honestly not sure. I really only work on my own stuff and my zero turns at work!
Very detailed. Thank you!
No problem!
Thanks for the video!!
No problem!!
I find Fluid Film works good for pivot points and linkages.
Thanks for the tip!
Rather than WD40, I would recommend silicone spray. Would also like a way of lubricating the front axle center pivot point area.
That's a good option as well.
How to put the headlight bulbs in
I did a video about that with my Troy Bilt Pony. That's a good idea to do one for this mower. Haven't gotten to that yet.
Excellent!!!
Thank you!

When you mention oiling some spot - what oil are you using? Want to know what I should buy.
I just use a light oil like WD 40 so it doesn’t get all kinds of grass and dirt stuck in it.
Do the spindles have grease fittings
They do not. They are maintenance free. And it’s really not worth adding zerks because they are sealed bearings inside.
So this model does not have grease zerts on the blades??
On the spindles? Nope. “Maintenance free”

Now that's a sweet pick. Trash to treasure!! Love me some good curb cash. Thanks for input on the plastic bushings.

Great job
Thank you.
Good stuff! Appreciate you.
Thanks, glad I could help.
What grease should I be using?
A multi purpose lithium grease like the stuff that comes with the gun I linked under the video: amzn.to/45brvMk
You have to do that when you just bought it?
No you do not. Every 10 hours of usage or so is pretty standard.
WD-40 is NOT a lubricant, it's a dispersant, that's what the "D" in WD stands for, it disperses water and lubricants. It is doing the opposite of what you want.
Thanks for the input.
Correct- the "WD" stands for water displacement. They make a garage door lube, that is a dry lube, that won't attract dirt- that's what I use. (at HD)
Their silicone lube is great though
The XT2 zerks on the inside of the front wheels are unreachable..tried different angle fittings and gun attachments..Ive had to pull the fittings and leave it open now, I fill up to hole with grease and use magnetic tape to cover the opening
Really? Even with turning the wheels and I'm guessing you've tried a flexible attachment like one of these? amzn.to/45d5BsT

You need a different flexible arm for your grease gun problem solved

Instead of wd40 white lithium grease spray works great and is water resistant. Just don’t get any on the belt.
Thanks for the input.

Why's that mower look new
Ha ha, because I take care of my stuff.
Zerks on the wheel or like plastic what the hell is your problem MTD
Yeah, you have to go up to the XT2 series to get actual bearings.

Lock n Lube
WD 40 is a solvent not a lubricant.
It won't lube it a ton but will help a little and not collect dirt.
WD-40 is a water dispersant
Yes I know it's not a true lubricant. But it helps somewhat and doesn't get gummed up with dirt.
