      I was willing to make the sacrifices necessary, but the problem was with my parents. My father especially wanted to frustrate my every attempt to be an independent man from childhood on through. It did not help the he decided to start a business for himself instead of working for other people. I was basically made a Slave from childhood until I finally was able to get away with little more than I could carry on my back. Unfortunately, I'm still in debt for the college that I did manage to get, and I work in a job that I absolutely loathe.
      A great deal depends upon how Savvy your parents are and on how willing they are to help you to grow in the direction that you should go, instead of the direction they want you to go.
      My father was Savvy enough to know how to direct a young boy in his life in such a way that he could use guilt and fear and a variety of other emotional tactics to control that young boy until finally it was either get free or die. Some parents can be brutally crippling to their children's development, and should never, ever have had children to start with.
      How does a grown man deal with that?

      Bro take responsibility for yourself. Whatever your parents did. It’s not their responsibility after you’re 18. It’s yours and yours only.

      Did you live my life? Were you there in the place that I was born and raised? Have you even so much has met either one of my parents?
      Obviously you have been privileged to have a life that started out better than what mine did. But everyone's life has exceptions to the rule in it.
      In my own case, in case you did not know this what I had to say, my parents were very possessive and very repressive and very big on monitoring every last place I was and every last thing I did. If you have not been subject to that sort of intense scrutiny on a daily basis 24/7, then you cannot imagine but I went through. Perhaps you could ask Dr Peterson about people who train children into patterns that they are not supposed to follow.
      It is ironic that you have the name God's strength as your moniker. If it were not for the strength that God himself afforded me, I should have done away with myself long before I reached the point of independence.
      Have you ever considered how many suicides in this nation have been in situations like the one that I was placed in?
      Take care to not let pride get the better of you. I am looking for some word of advice some strategy I might use that might help me to cope better than I am at present.
      But I can see that you are useless here.

    He's referring to Self Authoring. It's one of the best, most effective things I've ever done. It helped me get through horrific trauma, after 3 family members were murdered. Then, I found myself back in school for the career I really wanted, taking music lessons from one of my very favorite rock stars, spending time with just really good, fun, decent people and not being pulled down by the toxic ones, and starting a small program working with stray animals, which I'd really wanted to do. Its not "self-help guru" stuff. It's digging into your own heart and soul, being honest with yourself, to feel who you really are and how you're going to reasonably go about making your life the way you really want it for yourself, family, and others, instead of like a checklist of 'shoulds.' It asks you many specific questions about yourself and you write and write about it, until you're just the real YOU. It's wonderful! I thank God for Self Authoring. It was only 30 bucks for 2 people for life. You can go in and erase, then update, if you want, down the road. I love it.

  • @angelus_solus
    @angelus_solus 2 года назад +10

    Problem is, I don't know what I want my life to be like in four years. I've focused so long on the present moment and existing one day to the next that it's all I know. As to what I want to avoid, as long as I get my attachment issues sorted out, which I'm already working on, that won't be a problem. So, essentially I have nothing to write down and no foundation to build any goals on.

    • @potapotapotapotapotapota
      @potapotapotapotapotapota 2 года назад +4

      Well that's the thing - big goals take a long time to achieve. Each day you have to chip away bit by bit if you are going to achieve them. Taking things day by day is much easier to wrap your head around (for most people) than living in the future. That's why they say you should break big goals up into many many smaller goals. That way you always have something to do and are making progress towards your big goals without even thinking about the future.
      E.g. if your goal is to become a professional musician, you would break that down to an achievable goal like getting your performance certificates. To become a pro you need to get to like level 10 certificate, but you are only at level 1 - so work towards level 1. And to achieve level 1 proficiency you need to learn a number of scales, learn some theory, play a select few pieces to mastery, etc, etc. Then for each of these you create goals. For scales let's say you have to learn C Major, D Major and F minor. For theory you have to learn all your intervals and note names and fingerings for the instrument. Then for the pieces you should look through the syllabus and select the ones you think you will enjoy playing. And then each day you work on a little bit of all of these. Then after a while you start developing muscle memory and you achieve all these goals, so you move onto the next goal... so on and so forth.
      It's breaking things down that is the point of Jordan Peterson's Self Authoring Program. You have to really think about it if you are going to know what to do. But once you know what's required, then it makes it so much easier to work towards it. I mean, if you have trouble with this maybe get a teacher to help you set goals for yourself.

    • @angelus_solus
      @angelus_solus 2 года назад +3

      @@potapotapotapotapotapota That's the thing. I have no idea what I even want to do. I don't have any long term goals, but I do have a few random projects I want to make. Next month I have a plans for a Neolithic style knife with a blade made from C954 bronze, but I can't picture anything four years into the future.

    What do I do if I just can't specify what I want? I tried it in many ways and many times but I just can't seem to bring myself to a specific thing. The farthest I've come is a general description of having a meaningfull occupation, having a purpose and being generally at peace, but actually specifying what that would be seems impossible to me since I don't know what constitutes something as being meaningful, and I can't seem to just "listen to my heart" or "my gut" since I'm not too sure myself what it is that I'm actually seeking and since I've lost trust in my senses so to say, therefore I really don't know how to continue in that regard.

      Perhaps a good way to look at this is apply it to a stranger. If you judged a hypothetical stranger and tried to apply your goals here how would you see them? If that's tough to do then maybe assess people you actually know by this same standard. Find out who meets your criteria for a good life and try to apply it as best you can to yourself.

    Jordan didn't learn how to consciously respond to his weakness, inadequacies, bitterness, resentments, and "sinful" tendencies.
    Because as a boy, Jordan had to distort his perception and become self-defeating patterns of behavior as a strategy to appear favorable to his captors.
    In reaction to his father's defense mechanisms, Jordan's mind split into something to unconsciously avoid and something to unconsciously strive for.
