    I tweaked the editing style a bit more. trying to keep shots a bit more continuous and a bit more to the point. This was helped quite a bit by upgrading to Final Cut Pro. As i get used to the software it should get even better.
    Thank you for your patience in letting me get this video out. The next one should follow within a month (depends on holidays and the day job).

    • @FrankensteinMotorworks
      @FrankensteinMotorworks  4 года назад +1

      @@user-pd9vm9ts1o External dimensions on a motor like that really don't give you enough information to see if it fits. I'd classify this as a wide "big head" DOHC motor. You'll need at least 20" between the frame rails, 24" between the strut tower tops and 24" of height to fit it in. it's also 21" long but that dimension will definitely not give you a problem.

    I am speechless. Very comprehensive initial video for an MR-2 SW20 2GR-FE build. You've covered everything up to the smallest details (what parts to shave off/grind when mating the engine with the trans, the bolts used, torque specs, common issues, etc.). This makes me confident to do it on my own! Now I just need an SW20 and the 2GR-FE. ;) Thank you very much!

    Stumbled across your videos after watching some K-swap videos. I’ve always been more of a Mazda fan but I have a soft spot for the SW20. I still remember going for a spirited drive on a coastal (Australian) road years ago in my little turbo 4WD Ford Laser (same shell as the early 90s USDM Escort) and a SW20 easily kept up through the twisties. Nowadays my family car is actually 2GR-FE powered (Kluger/Highlander), this video makes me want to buy an SW20 and do the swap. I’ve always had a thing for small 6-cylinder powered cars, and the MR2 would be worthy of the effort at least, unlike KL swapping a 90s Mazda.

      Damn, you're absolutely right. Unfortunately RUclips gives me no tools at all to allow me to make a correction to a video without invalidating all the links to it. It really bugs the heck out of me, i understand why they do that for political videos and such but for videos in this class they really should allow annotations at an absolute minimum to call out errors like this.

    • @mr2_nate
      @mr2_nate 4 года назад

      Yeah that is unfortunate, you could probably just pin a comment with the correction so it shows up at the top of the comment section.

    • @FrankensteinMotorworks
      @FrankensteinMotorworks  4 года назад +2

      Matt, 340hp is the estimated flywheel horsepower, i haven't actually put it on an engine dyno but with my headers, tuned ECU, MAF pipe, Alex Wilhelm's y-pipe and a berk tail section it makes 290whp and Alex has actually been working on a few flow tweaks and he's even gotten it to 301whp. This is all with zero internal modifications, not even porting at this point though that's likely going to be necessary to push it much further in naturally aspirated trim.

    2.I read about ECU that there is "VVTI target angles changed to remove torque tapering off at 6250RPM rev limiter raised to 7200RPM" so its will not damage or make resource of engine much lower ?
    3. I see the diagrams on you web site but there is only for RAV ECU, so that would be the same for highlander ECU also ?
    4.Whats you think if i install your highlander ECU and wil have a OBD, is that good idia to have just screen and bluetooth adapter so like electric dash, or its buggy and slow ?

      Zaza,
      1)The only difference between the ECUs is which harness you use and the 5-plug does not have working cruise control. Otherwise they both make the same amount of power.
      2)There's no extra wear from the tune, the stock engine is not tuned like this because this makes it be way too loud.
      3)I do not currently have a easy wiring diagram drawn up for the highlander. I sell very few of those so i have not made the documentation at this point.
      4)i would have the tachometer and the speedometer be actual gauges, bluetooth and OBDII is a bit slow for a gauge cluster.
      5)it depends on many variables but it can get down to about 4.2s 0-60

    Hello thanks for the great video, question did you use the entire new stlye 153e trans from a different make of car? Or was the new style trans also available in the MR2?

    • @FrankensteinMotorworks
      @FrankensteinMotorworks  4 года назад

      That was a 93+ MR2 transmission but you can use the Solara bellhousing if you want to do this and you can also get the updated synchros and better final drive ratio from the same transmission.

    I cant find for the life of me a big enough sized tap wrench handle. Every single one is 1/4 to 1/2 and the tap I got is too big to fit into that. Cant find one that's bigger anywhere.
    Also could just use a regular socket wrench but I can't find a female to female socket adapter! Am I being stupid and overlooking something?

      Mostly just open up the exhaust but we run headers and a super short exhaust, a special MAF pipe with a velocity stack and an ECU calibration and the Venza upper intake manifold. Completely unopened engines.

      The EB60 transmission does bolt up to the 2GR with a bit of grinding in a few spots but it's a great transmission. It will require three custom motor mounts and some custom shift linkage though. I made mounts and linkage for that trans for my MKIII 2ar-fe swap kit but not for the MKII.

    • @001dman
      @001dman 4 года назад

      Frankenstein Motorworks eh a little custom fab didn’t hurt anyone. 6 speed seems like it’d be a good fit for the 2gr (unless I could get my hands on a lotus unit) just gotta find a car.

      @@001dman I have an Evora EA60 trans here that i would just straight up trade for that EB60 if that's what you really want but i will warn you that i would be getting the better part of that deal. Yes, you can mix and match parts with other e-series transmissions to get many other gear ratios and final drive ratios you want. There's also a few aftermarket gear and final drive options.

      The 2GR-FE swap in the MR2 costs about $6000-7000 if you're doing it yourself. But that's if you're in the USA and i don't think you are so you'll have to make your shopping list and figure it out based on local parts availability.
