I have a 2ZZ MR2. Does it need more power? Probably. Do I want more power? No. It’s kind of between a B16A and a B18C. It’s a great engine, super reliable, and sounds fantastic.
I got cammed 1zz and I'm fine with the power I'm at. I'm only half a sec behind my friends 2zz's track only MRS with my daily and that's just behind finding balls and fixing my camber and corner balance, which he has done. "1zz bad" is a meme where I'm sitting.
@@lmenzol Teddy yuen reccomends skipping stage 2 altogether and going stage 3 and a tune. He reguarly builds and dynos 1zz's that make 180hp, all he does is just intake, ecu, stage 3 cams and a dyno tune. I'm thinking of switching to stage 3 as well next year.
should try out a 2ar spyder if you ever get the chance! I'm gonna be turboing my 2ar over the winter if there are no financial hiccups the rest of the year. as of my knowledge should be the first 2ar turbo swapped spyder
Eh sometimes braking a little early is good so you can be smooth and come on power sooner making you come out of the turn faster. A professional told me awd cars have to do this and I’d bet it helps mid engine cars as well.

@@TougeTime you're rear tire is already bigger. im square setting, but the back flowed so well that I was going to grow a rear tire. My setting is 205/45/16 Square setting.
@@lomfmur ya toyota had no funds to make a proper alloy 3sge 6th gen motor. Much less a new 2 liter 2zz. the only reason i believe they went with a 2nd cam profile engine (like vtec) was for emissions. Besides all 2zz, from the corolla 170hp to the TRD Sports M 200hp engine fall out of their power band when shifting at peak power. The TRD sports M should of got a 4.7 final drive, which is why it wasnt popular like the ITR DC2
@@justintowers8230 gotta remember the 2ZZ is also 1ZZ which is also a 1.8 and they wanted to keep very similar exterior dimensions and the same bore spacing. So without a longer stroke (which they didn’t want to/probably couldnt do) they couldn’t have made it a 2.0, it’d just be too costly and possibly unreliable. Emissions was definitely a part of the reason for VVTL-i but it was also their reluctance for turbo’s and wanting to make more power in their small cars like the Celica and Corolla without using a larger engine. Kind of a compromise of a million things as is common these days, all around though they really did a respectable job all things considered.
@@lomfmur hmm well it seems when you shift @ 8k you can keep the revs in the rpm band (in the lift zone) its a damn good motor. In the trd sports M debut. It seems the driver didnt take it to 8k, thus loosing to the Integra

Toyota jdm import engine known as the toyota 2.0L 3sge Beams engine, with variable valve timing and lift, might be another option.

ya too bad toyota went downhill after 2000. went from a 2 litre 3SGE in altezza to a 1.8 liter no torque 2zz.
The 2ZZ is in many ways superior to the 3S, my biggest gripe with it is that it’s not a 2.0 but I understand why it isnt.
