Thank you so much for these precious advice for beginners like me! l have now watched many of your videos and I really like your style - your art and the way you present the process of making them.
I think you have outdone yourself with this one. Started to say this is my favorite ever, and it is in the moment, but then I started thinking about my other favorites of yours…. Tea bags… travel journals - so many. But these eggs are special. ❤
Neva, this is really nice to hear. You know, I once got a comment here that said my channel wasn't varied enough. Since I assume she typed it on the wrong channel or was unkind, I deleted it and moved on and made more stuff. As we do! Thanks for the vote of confidence. 😺😺
Very informative. I didn't know that soft pastels could be worked with water. Thank you so much. The one egg I have painted, I splattered with gold and brown specks. I loved it. I wonder why I haven't made more. I must do that soon.
Hi Linda. Soft pastels are so cool as they are budget-friendly and surprisingly versatile. I have several videos on how to use but here is recent one that does show some wet pastel techniques. Gold speckles sounds gorgeous! Kelly ruclips.net/video/wMInGNVr-zs/видео.html
@@BookandPaperArts Thank you for the link, Kelly. I will watch it soon. You were right-I do have a set of pastels left over from a long time ago. I never really liked working with them, but I’m excited to try them again with your tips about using water to blend them. Thank you.
What a fun video! I love that you cover multiple styles of media and placement. I can’t wait to make some eggs! It’s very approachable, even for us beginners. Thank you!
Thank you, Roberta. I am getting better at watercolour and I love ink but as a teacher I am very aware that just the word "paint" startles some and sabotages them before they get started. Coloured pencils or pastels are more approachable and make a might cute egg! I hope you have a creative week and make some fun eggs! Kelly
I love these, Kelly! Thank you for presenting a simple technique. I painted along with your video, pausing whenever necessary to catch up. I picked up the wrong sketchbook at first, but when I got out the watercolor paper, Wow! The ones I did there actually look like eggs. I found that I liked my first wash better if I started with just water, then added the color, wet on wet; I guess I'm kind of heavy-handed, so these were more delicate looking. Next will try on some text pages. 🥢🙂🙏🥚
Hello Dee. Yes, it is amazing how different papers are more friendly for this technique. A flat (smooth) watercolour paper is ideal. With the text some is better than others but it works it looks so cool. Happy making! Kelly
Wonderful video, and one of the few that features watercolor on vintage paper. Thanks for the tip solving “thirsty book page syndrome”- I needed to know that!
Hi Regina. Yeah, I put down a layer of gel medium because it's just for fun. If I was Making A Piece I might use clear gesso or watercolour grounds but for the fun of it, just get a bit of a coat of something on there that won't repel the water-based stuff. Hope you are having a creative weekend! Kelly
Thanks Kelly for all your wonderful recent videos. Making birds eggs looks like a lot of fun and I see how useful they can be in journals and altered books. I intend to experiment with all the mediums that you suggested.
Hi Helene. You know, I didn't know I needed to know how to make birds eggs until they turned up in an online class I'm taking. Then I thought - where has this been all my life??? 🐤🐤🐥🐥
Thanks, Val. I only learned this technique recently and couldn't stop making eggs and adding them to nooks and crannies in my pages so I thought - let's get the message out! And I sure hope you got up and made something and I hope you have a creative week. Kelly
Thanks for another interesting, informative, well-well-presented video. I really have learned such a lot from you! I was also sidetracked when I saw you using greaseproof paper when you apply your adhesive. What a brilliant idea...(says someone who gets into an awful sticky mess EVERY time). Thanks for the tip!! 😊🤗
Hi Sandra. I should buy that stuff in bulk because I have glued many a page to itself in a project. Funny how when you want them to stay glued they pop right up again but then if you put the teensiest bit of glue in the wrong place the whole thing is stuck together forever. 😮😮🙄🙄
Excellent lessons Kelly, in todays video! I loved how you could soften the paint color edges, with a simple, clear, watered down brush. I also just loved the colors you used on that flesh, pinky colored egg! Delicious, creamy pastels! Thank you.
Excellent idea! I keep using birds in my books an I'm kind of bored with putting them together with flowers and butterflies. So eggs are a great alternative. Thank you! 🪶
Centi, you read my mind. I, too, love everything with wings but the theme does repeat itself a lot. Adding eggs is close to the theme but adds variety. And egg shapes make cool halos and even celestial-type "moons" or asteroid-thingies. We must get together and compare notes! Kelly
@@BookandPaperArts Now I made some eggs with watercolor und cut them out and... oh, Kelly, they turned out sooo beautiful! I love them! ♥ Plus: it's really simple.

Thanks Deborah. They are pretty addictive but as they don't cost much and aren't fattening, let's make more eggs! Kelly
