The chants normally start off with the hard core of the supporters club. And the chants get picked up the rest of the fans.

They don't. From my experience, they always started from drunken train/coach journeys to away games. MUFC

fans are segerated, into different areas, home team, and away team, , it all looks good fun, but if they go at each other, blood bath to be honest, away fans are usually held in the satadium after a match and tend to have police escorts to there assigned coaches, fans dont mix, not like in american sports
The you get the derby matches two close teams, celtic and rangers, sunderland and newcastle, liverpool everton to name a few, there is a hatred on match days.

The school chant was wondering why the fans were leaving
    Same with
    Is there a fire drill

There is another football vid were the losing team start chanting "let's pretend we score a goal" then they all celebrate in their fake goal, it's hilarious.

Sometimes there's a chant guy who gets his friends in the audience going and it spreads if it's good. Usually it's someone starting a well known classic chant and people go along, which i think is how all American chants are? IDK

In the UK I would recommend visiting a game in the second tier or lower, it's less expensive and imo a more true football experience. Or visit a game in the Dutch or Belgian league, also a lot cheaper as a Premier League ticket and still a very descent level and experience, depending on the club and venue/city tho. But seeing you're a Gunner I assume your priority is visiting a game at the Emirates.

The reference to "School in the Morning" is basically accusing the opposition fans of being upstart Children.

hanks for this and I have just subscribed from London. Been to over 1,770 matches live since 1962 and watch 10,000+ others on TV :)
The chant that you said that you did not understand was one set of fans mocking the opposition, who had been winning and their fans were singing but now they were no longer in front then their rivals said "You're not singing anymore" as they had gone quiet. Only 1 or 2 RPL games but this Guy supports a fourth-tier (called Division 2, bizarrely) team so much of this was from smaller stadiums in lower leagues but still fun. Millwall Away from Home and Leeds and West Ham can all be brutal:)

It's only in England people sing randomly.
Most European leagues have a capo that pumps us up with the megaphone pushing us to go louder and wilder.
