Hey Scotty what do you think of Honda Ridgeline truck 4*4 06-14?
My 30-year-old truck goes to see the doctor every spring for a checkup. Normally, nothing is wrong, but on occasion it needs new this or that which is fine. That old truck has sure been a blessing to me. I take care of it, and it takes care of me.
Thank you Scotty. God Bless you.
I think we can all concur that we wish Toyota still offered a V6 option in the RAV4.
I have an 07 Rav V6 limited. I purchased a 2019 Rx350 Lexus that has the same excellent engine. Recently while at the dealership, they tried to convince me to trade in my RX 350 for a new 350 that only has a 4 cylinder engine.
Have they gone nuts?
@@prosay YES, yes they have
🙄👍
I have one 2007 V-6 so far very good ride
@@prosaya 2019 still using the same 2GR-FE? Or the FSE variant?
@@prosay…I think yes, mechanic probably wanted it 👀
*_CALLED MY WIFE AN "ENDLESS MONEY PIT" TODAY._*

How Toyota managed to shove a V-6 on a Rav4 is remarkable
I have a 2010 Rav4 V6 with 105k miles on it. It's super fun to drive and definitely a sleeper.
My 12 Hyundai Santa Fe has a V6 as well. It's packed in there! Peppy thing though.
And the 2008-2015 scion xb can swap the motor to the V6
@@oreally8605 wait really?
@@oreally8605 Interesting, 2gr fe? 268hp in one of those can be fun!!!
My sister works for a company which supplies car makers with parts. She says Toyota orders less than everyone else, close to zero. In Europe.
In România motoarele de 1.8 litri sunt considerate mari in sch cele de 1.2 litri in America sunt considerate prea mici in special in zone unde este foarte frig .
@@luckyme4053 hey this was really interesting to read!
I had an issue with my 02 4runner. Felt like a transmission issue....after watching serval RUclipsrs, it was a bad coil pack.
Changed ...plugs ...coil packs ...and plugs.
Runs like a chap...
Thanks for sharing ...Scotty.
After watching a couple of your OTHER videos on RAV4 (including especially the V6 ones)... I'm in the market- found several to go check already... THANKS for all your GREAT INFO!!!
Being difficult to access some parts on a vehicle is another reason why I now take my car to an independent mechanic who specializes in Toyota cars. Buy only Denso Iridium spark plugs. They're 25% owned by Toyota.
Yeah I always sold denso for Toyota and even Honda vehicles
@@mcc7762 I run NGK in everything
@@mcc7762 I changed spark plugs last year on my ‘17 Civic for the first time with 100K miles. The NGK iridium’s are OEM spec.
I have a 2008 rav4 v6 and the second owner I changed the plugs at 166k miles and I was impressed how well it ran and it was the oem originals but going over 200k on the original plugs is impressive
I have a 2008 Rav 4 4 cyl at 230,000 miles!! I'm very conscienous owner. had an ignition coil go out told the mechanic go ahead replace all 4 - he said "no way!" the ravs can have only one go out its whole life!
Edward Deming and Taiichi Ohno were ahead of their time. Toyotas are just so good.
People snear at things like Six Sigma and Lean, but when you use them properly, they work. But that is the problem, people don't use them properly.
@@jamescaron6465 Fully agree. Organizations always seem to want to piece meal it, instead of looking at the process through the lense of the entire company. We had great success with it in my last position. Waste reduction, employee moral, value added activities, all greatly improved.
For 2006 the 4-cylinder RAV-4 is known for piston ring problems causing oil loss. The 6-cylinder cost about $2,000 more, but did 0 to 60mph in 6.9 seconds and ran smoother. The 6-cylinder option is still available for the Camry. With the price of gasoline now, it will likely be less popular.
Not with the camry, due to the electric motor
24 seconds, LET'S GO SCOTTY!

V6 AWD Rav4 was once Toyota's fasted 0-60 vehicle for a few years!
They really are a little rocket
Love my 2009 V6 SPORT :)
My wife has one. It's fun pulling away from the "macho" trucks that tailgate it or blasting ahead of cars that don't let me merge onto the highway
I changed all my spark plugs in my 08 Lexus ES 350 at 120k miles. It has the same V6 engine as this Rav4. Accessing cylinders 3 and 5 were a major PITA because they were all the way in the back with barely any working room.
No doubt. Must remove plenum etc…2hr job
Is easier to work on.
This actually happened to my honda civic today thank God for you I was able to self diagnosed
"It's time to get out the scan tool." - truer words were never spoken!
The ladies have kim Kardashian. We men have Scotty Kilmer.
I bought an MG Midget when I was young and foolish. The first week it quit running. I had to ship the engine to the only man I could find who would work on it, to Ft Lauderdale some 4 - 5 hours away. It took that guy 3 months to get it repaired, waiting for parts. Good heavens. I drove it for another year before ridding myself of that nightmare. LOL
I purchased a MGB in 1969.
Total garbage.
I swear Scotty is like Americas Cool Dad that rigs up your Go-Kart.
Glossed right over the removal of the plenum to reach the rear bank of plugs
Always check the gap anyway,,just did mine,,2 were off point from sliding around in box

Scotty is a human torque wrench.
"The stupid beauty cover back on" 🤣🤣
I am just getting a 11 v6 limited
Did a lot of research before pulling the trigger.
It’s being shipped
never forget that the manual transmission is the key to the car longevity. And less gas consumption.
I still have my 2011 rav 4 limited from when I bought it new and I have no regrets never had any costly problems and still runs great with 210k on the dash
What’s the gas mileage on the dash
@@tavaunthomas1066for other people reading this, the car gets around 21 average. It’s listed as 19 city and 26 on highway but I’ve seen more people saying they get around 24 on the highway and 18 in city… still amazing for an old car with a v6
I'm glad that someone bought a Corolla cross instead of the Rav4 from last video.
My wife's 2011 V6 Limited just crossed 100k miles. Within the next month, I plan to change the plugs plus all 6 coil-packs. Still get mailings from the local Toyota dealers wanting to buy it. Not a chance.
I drove a 2013 Rav4 for one month shy of eight years and a little over 135k miles. The only money I spent on the car was maintenance related. Not one dollar spent on an actual failure. I replaced the original spark plugs at about 130k, just cause, and honestly, I couldn't tell much difference between the old ones and the new ones. The plugs on this car weren't a failure. They simply wore out. There's a difference.
My friend have same 2012 v6 rav4 with more 100k on it and that thing is a beast
I like your haircut, Scotty. You really bring the energy, love your podcast and intelligence, humor , editing. You’re the man
Love my 2010 RAV4 V6. 180k miles. Still fast. Plugs changed at 125k. Not giving it up anytime soon.
My 2009 Camry has a V6. Almost 300,000 miles. Haven't had too many issues, but I did have to replace the coil packs and spark plugs.
Needing new sparkplug is not a serious problem in my book, it's just routine maintenance.
Toyota calls for 10 years or 110k miles so that was way overdue for new plugs.
@@captinbeyond I heard its because over 10 years the plugs could have more issues with getting removed and possibly stripping the threads. That's only reason why.
@@captinbeyond As long as iridium plugs they should be fine...but plugs are cheap I'd just change them now personally.
Take a large crescent wrench or a large wrench that just fits shaft. Slide it up to the back of first joint and smack the wrench and it will pull axle out of the lock under cut where the ring clicks in. Get a new lock ring too when reinstalling axle.
I have the 2GR-FE RAV4 as well. Scotty makes it seem easier than it is to change the back plugs. Watch care car nut channel if you plan on doing this yourself.
Yeah those back plugs take a while.
I replace 2 GR-FE it take about 2 hours job or 2.5 hours …
This is a Testimony, of how the 3rd Gen RAV4’s last. Been wanting one since 2009. I still want one now. Lol I mean that V6 is amazing so yeah I am hoping to get one soon regardless of the miles. It’s a Toyota.
I would of liked to have seen the changing of the rear plugs???? On my 2010 Venza it's a royal pain. Had the dealer do it.
I have a 2011 RAV4 V6. I call it the Pocket Rocket. 🚀 It has some serious get up and go.
“Meh…brake system…who cares!” lol
Using brakes is showing weakness, never change your brakes!
Scotty is all love and cudling until he sees a "beauty cover"
Nothing gets him angrier
😂
I own a 2011 V6 RAV4. Most that do own them beat the crap out of them because they are fast and fun to drive and yet still last a very long time. The biggest drawback is when you need anything replaced you need to drop the AWD transmission and engine since there is no working room.
scotty seems to prefer front WD for many reasons
I want to see you actually replace the back cylinders’ plugs.
261k miles on my '08 Scion xD and I still have the original plugs in it. I did replace the coils about 2 years ago though.
Probably should change them. It’s takes about 20mins on those 4 cylinders
@@aamirsayed570 I imagine mine will take longer. At least a good hour to soak with some PB Blaster anyway!
Afternoon, Scotty!
afternoon!
Scotty I had a 2valve 4.6 mustang gt I replaced the plugs and 2 off them blew out the top I know it’s a reporter problem engine but still I learned the hard way and now I torque my plugs
Best to look at the gap on the new plugs to see if it's been dropped. The disk Gage with the graduated ramp are best, I think.
I agree, I ran into 1 of the plugs not gapped correctly when changing mine.
"stupid beauty cover"
Hilarious !
I have a rav4 v6 sport awd, those things are pretty quick for what they are.
the V6 Rav4s were surprisingly nice to drive

Afternoon scotty how are you doing!?!? Toyota 4 life!!!
afternoon, good thanks!
Question for you scottie are all Subarus GARBAGE or not ? I'm planning to possibly getting one maybe or maybe I should change my mind what do you think?
I've owned All American brands of pickup trucks and many American sedans, nothing compares to Toyota. It's just simply the truth, no European brands can come close to Toyota either, so it's no offense to anyone else. If you can afford a Toyota...... Buy it
All I will ever buy now, in on my third Toyota car. Bought my wife a CRV and it still haunts me. Honda ain't even close to toyota
Just don't over tighten the spark plugs. I usually have gone until they are snug, and then another 1/4 turn and never had a problem on any of my vehicles. You don't want them too lose and you don't want them too tight (and you definitely don't want to break them off from overtightening). All the car manuals I've seen (even my truck) recommended spark plugs every 90-100k miles even though they were iridium. I used to just drive cars until they would misfire and then change them, but on a newer cars about every 100-150k is about the life of the plugs, no matter which ones you get.
And use anti seize.
Scotty for President!!
That's a really long time for spark plugs to last. I wish I could afford a Toyota, but wow prices are currently stupid. Gas is getting as bad the price of used cars right now.
I have my eyes on a 2003 RAV4 with 5 speed manual. Should I go for it??
Excellent scotty keep them coming
Just did this on my 06 XB no code but still had the original coils and plugs from Japan lol Toyota
Scotty I spent 10k on a 2011 rav4 4 cyl limited with 49k did i get a good deal? What things should I look out for vehicle known issues
Those rav4 V6 are pretty damn quick
2GR-FE V6, tried and true
Incredible!! Nissans go at 80k usually. Definitely buying one of these this month with one of those rare v6s
Wow this had the smart key push to start in 2010! The Toyota Corolla didn't get that feature until its 2014 redesign (which is optional). The SUVs and bigger cars got this feature first years before the smaller cars did
It's really sad that Toyota doesn't have a V6 option on the RAV anymore!
I found a 2008 with 70k miles 4cyl front wheel drive.... drives nice for wht I need
Im looking at the same year and 80k miles on ot the guysl wants $7,500 how much did you pay for yours?
Scotty you can tell if the plugs are original by looking for two small colored dots at the top of the plug.
my 2000 rav4 with the 2.0 4 cylinder book says to use plugs with the triple ground electrodes.... not the single one.
thank you for your service mr jonathan
Great videos Scotty, I have a 2007 Rav4 V6 Sport AWD with a leaking front differential. It's not leaking from the axel seals but it is leaking at the pinion seal fro the driveshaft going to the rear differential and I'm told they have to remove the whole Engine, Transmission, Differential to fix? What do you think?
There used to be a file to file clean the end of the spark plug if you didn't have much money that's what i did with my first car
Hey Scotty how in the world did you change the back 2 spark plugs without taking the manifold off.?
Should I buy one of these (10 RAV4 Sport V6 4WD). 150k, they want 8K. (Good maintenance records)
Whats good scotty!
hello!
I didn't realise the spark plugs lasted that long, I know this was an extreme case, but I thought they would have needed changing long long before that.
I think usually between 40-60k miles but I’ve ran thru spark plugs on my Mercedes’ like I do gas
Depends on what the plug is made of. Ruthenium and iridium last the longest.
my 2010 crv has 170k on the original plugs, I️ figure if it ain’t broke don’t fix it
@@bitcoochie4093 that’s the thing. There’s always a toss up between making your car perform and making your car run good enough. It costs more money to maintain your car to peak performance.
You get what you paid for. These are expensive plugs
I thought i’d give the Ruthenium ones a try
Why no dielectric grease? Just wondering. I'm from Ontario, more extreme weather here maybe you don't need it there.

Mr. Scotty, I just didn't get your explanation of the way to use a slide hammer to remove a CV axle from the trans.

I need to bring my minivan to Scotty, I’m in the Northeast area.
I have a 2006 toyota rav4 and drives great but when i slow down to a stop sign or trafic stop, it feels like it won"t stop and wants to keep going. And when you come to a complete stop, it takes off going on its on going at least 20mp without give it gas. What you think that is??
An old trick to prevent cross threading
Stuck each new spark plug end to a length of a 12 inches automotive hose , slide in and hand twist into it thread freely, retreat. Tighten or torque to spec as needed .
Scotty torqued: Uhh💪
So the only thing the 2GRFE needed after 230,000 miles was new spark plugs? Also if that's so easy to do Scotty why don't you just go ahead and replace all 6? It all 6 coils at the same time? Oh that's right, front 3 easy, back 3 not so much.
