  • This video is a follow up to the install video where I add a heat bank modification. The mod is fabricated from a 118" stainless exhaust pipe, coiled in a canning pot filled with pea gravel.

Not good. What happens when it fills up with condensate and the whole pipe is filled with water. I guess the heater will turn off.

There are some cases when using sand, stone or concrete work well for capturing heat energy, but this is not one of those cases. I see a lot of videos about "sand batteries" with these heaters ... I think the appeal must be that it's pretty easy and not very expensive.
If you want to know why water is a WAY better option, watch the first 7 minutes of this video.

the exhaust can't be positioned that way. just like a car exhaust, condensation comes out of the exhaust. it will pool and potentially damage the unit. the exhaust has to point downward, at most horizontal.

Do you mean the exhaust pipe or the unit itself can't be on its side? Diesel truck exhaust runs thru a turbo, then its discharged straight vertical 🤷‍♂️
