I appreciate that neither Edward nor Nancy are made out to be bad guys. It’s just that Giselle and Robert fall in love.
That is so refreshing. Sometimes it doesn't work out nor because someone did something wrong but because it just... doesn't.
@@jebVlogs556 yes she did 😝
@@saiyasha848 that’s so refreshing lol 😂 yeah that’s true
They both just wanted to have Love in their lives.
Susan Sarandon plays the queen
i love nancy! i think she’s a very positive character and i’m glad they didn’t portrayed her as the evil girlfriend. she was very understanding the whole movie and all she wanted was to live a fairytale. i’m happy she ended up with the prince!
I love 💕 Nancy too yeah I’m glad she did too lol 😂 I’m glad they didn’t portrayed her as the evil girlfriend lol 😂
There were quite a few Disney princess cameos in this movie which I didn't realise until recently:
- Paige O'Hara (Belle's voice actress) as Angela, a soap opera character
- Jodi Benson (Ariel's voice actress) as Sam, Robert's secretary
- Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas's voice actress) as a pregnant woman with kids
- Idina Menzel (who went on to play Elsa) as Nancy Tremaine - Tremaine is also the surname of Cinderella's stepmother
Julie Andrews read the beginning story
Wow that's awesome
Some other cameos of note: The two older women at the ball who comment on this being better than last year's show are Mary Costa (Aurora's voice actress) and Illene Woods (Cinderella's voice actress). In addition, the older gentlemen in Central Park during "That's How You Know" were chimney sweeps in "Mary Poppins".
EDIT: Update from Kevin Lima's audio commentary on "Enchanted" (Link: ruclips.net/video/O2a8rt49sNA/видео.html). The two older women were supposed to be Mary Costa and Ilene Woods but both turned down the roles.
Oh wow I didn't realize Paige O'Hara was a cameo too nor did I know Tremaine was Nancy's last name. How Disney loves its Easter eggs
The guy opposite Paige O'Hara in the soap is Beast. The reporter for the news is someone but I'm too lazy to look up now. lol
I feel like this movie is peak "Disney." Light-hearted, self-aware, funny, charming, and completely sincere even while pointing out to the viewer exactly what it's doing and why. It's almost impossible to strike that balance without being too cynical, but they nailed it here... and then not so much ever since...
Sigh….the good ol’ days…..
Robert is the only Disney character to ask the right questions like, “how do people know the song?”.😂
I love when they are chasing out the vermin and Morgan had the rats and Robert tells her to get rid of them and she "says put them back?" Insinuating they had rats already 🤣
I know, right? 😅
The telenovela has a bunch of references in one:
The female soap star “Angela” (so named for Angela Lansbury, who voiced Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast) is played by Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle. “Angela” is arguing with a man named “Jerry” (Jerry Orbach voiced Lumiere) because she’s having an affair with a man named “Ogden” (David Ogden Stiers voiced Cogsworth). This soap opera scene is scored with music from Beauty and the Beast.
Whoa 🤯
the sop opera scene is also a parody of beauty and the beast
Tangled was still in development when this movie aired, so the Rapunzel play you see in That's How You Know is a nod to that. And the little girl is the director's daughter, I believe.
Nathaniel, the Evil Queen's minion, is best known as Peter Pettigrew, Voldemort's minion in the Harry Potter franchise.
Robert, Giselle's true love, is dressed at the Ball in a very close approximation of the mannikin Giselle creates at the beginning of the film, while she's still in Andalasia.
The Evil Queen is played by Susan Sarandon
James marsden as Edward is my favourite thing from this movie.
Prince Donut Lord... Marsden played absolutely wonderfully naïve Disney Prince to the perfection!
Amy Adams has insane range, she made Arrival, a deep philosophical Sci Fi. Love and adore both these movies for such different reasons.
The final, lightning-struck battle is a homage to the battles in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.
Btw, my grandmother and grandfather got engaged after basically one date, when he was actually dating someone else. Not exactly "one day", they knew of each other/knew their families... but within two weeks of that date they were married. Stayed together until his death, had five kids. It does happen!
I do like the fact Nancy and Edward are actually decent people who get their own happy ending even if it does leave me wondering did Nancy just move to Andalasia or is she commuting for work/keep in touch with her familiy.
The Italian restaurant they were eating at was called Bella Notte, in reference to the song from Lady and the Tramp
I love that after the intro we zoom into the castle. Also, this movie was breaking down Disney tropes long before Frozen. It's why I love this so much.
That's How You know is meant to be a mix of Kiss the Girl and Under the Sea. There's even a boat scene reference.
Amy Adams was SOOOOOO good in this acting like a princess and how she acted in the real world .. Loved her performance.
I had a once-in-a-lifetime experience seeing this movie.
I saw it in Hollywood's El Capitan theater, and they had this whole interactive thing set up so we could play themed games and see the costumes.
Yep, you guessed it, the reporters name is a reference too:
Her name is Mary Ilene Caselotti, which is a reference to Mary Costa (the voice of Aurora), Ilene Woods (the voice of Cinderella) and Adriana Caselotti (the voice of Snow White).
The neighbor with a bunch of kids, the one that said Edward was "too late", was the voice actress for Pocahontas.
18:32 funny that you mention that:
This actually made it onto the news BECAUSE people thought it was a flash mob!
I always loved the Disney villains as a kid and Narissa was wonderful. Seeing Susan Sarandon own the role was great.
This is such an underrated movie, and Amy Adams' performance was incredible.
Fun fact: ( I hope this isn't a spoiler) Idina Menzel who voiced Elsa in " Frozen" played Nancy.
Ironically, this 17:19 - 17:22 is exactly what Kristoff is gonna say to Anna about Hans!:-P
@@Nicamon yep, it sure is
It wouldn’t be possible for Enchanted to parody Tangled, because it hadn’t come out yet.
Also, I don’t know if I could choose between Amy Adams and Idina Menzel.
Both are gorgeous. Both can sing. Lovely, talented ladies.
I think this movie and Arrival are my favorite Amy Adams performances. RENT for Idina.
Let’s not forget Susan Sarandon who killed it as the Evil Queen.
The troll was wearing Ariels shell earrings, and his loincloth had Cinderellas maid outfit, and auroras rose outfit, Belle’s village dress, and Snow White’s rags.
Love Enchanted!!! Can't wait for Disenchanted!!!
the street dancing power only works on extras obviously, thats how it is in all the movies!
Thanks again for reacting to this, I had such a blast! I agree that this was kind of a love letter to the Princess genre and even though I do think the film tried to portray a balance between “reality” and “happily ever after,” I really love this film so much for tapping into the hope that Princess movies bring.
I will say your underhanded digs and veiled cynicism had me rolling! First when you thought Giselle couldn’t summon animals in the real world and then thinking the worst of Prince Edward lol.
“It’s til death do us part, not happily ever after even in the best case scenario” - Yours truly, Thor: The dream killer 😂...This is why I relate so much with Giselle sometimes…Here’s me believing in happily ever after while everyone thinks it only exists in fantasy land haha
“That’s all it took was some flowers?” - Umm…flowers delivered by birds! ;)
Something I also noticed is that you kept mentioning Giselle’s powers: “reality isn’t so bad if you have all these princess super powers”…..But the thing is, I don’t think that is what made her “magical.” Giselle’s true power was her unwavering faith in love/true love and her outlook on life. In the song “That’s how you know” it talks about all the small ways you can show love everyday…
“Because he'll wear your favorite color
Just so he can match your eyes
Rent a private picnic by the fire's glow!”
I think the point is that people think that true love and happily ever after is impossible or that it requires super powers or a magic carpet, but it’s really just not taking each other for granted. That’s why when that couple got back together it made sense to me because I don’t personally think you can lose love, per say. Each case is different, but I’d assume that if a person finds true love and gets married, then on some level there was some hope for happily ever after right? So if that deep love was there at the beginning then couldn’t you just recapture that again? Usually, a lot of the resentment that causes the “falling out of love” feeling comes from both parties not being seen or appreciated in some way. I do think bitterness can make forgiveness feel impossible but that is a choice.
Anyway, rant over. I truly love this film to the moon and back! It’s just full of magic and happy vibes! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one, Thor! :)
This film is such a joy and loving homage to the classic Disney princess films of the 30's and 50's while bringing in the songwriters from Disney's Renaissance period of the 90's (Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz both collaborated on the soundtracks to "Pocahontas" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"). Amy Adams had a breakthrough performance as Giselle, perfectly embodying the classic Disney princess tropes while creating an entirely original, heartfelt, and captivating character that you can't help but root for. Fun fact: The only reason Giselle is not an official Disney Princess is because Disney would have to pay royalties to Amy Adams to use her likeness. The supporting cast is fantastic too, and embody each of their roles to a T. As I get older, this film gets better and better. I have high hopes for the sequel and so glad that traditional animation is making a comeback! Great reaction as always Thor and keep up the amazing work! :)
The two women at 33:08 are Mary Costa and Ilene Woods, who voiced Princesses Aurora and Cinderella.
Thor: "It's going to he rough when there aren't going to be animals there to help her get ready-"
Ohhh just you wait 😆
I love this movie for so many reasons, high among them is Disney acknowledging it's own long history of tropes and having fun subverting them but still sticking with the core themes and stories they've always told. It's very cleverly done. Amy Adams man... wow. So talented. She plays that scene where she gets angry so damn well. So many emotions play across her face very quickly and she gives time for each one to feel real. All the cameos from other Disney movies are hilariously fun. It's really a solid movie. I'm looking forward to the second one.
Robert's last name is Phillip, in reference to Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty
One of the old men in the That's How You Know number was a chimney sweep in Mary Poppins.
The people around the bus when Edward stabbed it aren't extras. They're real tourists!
Honestly, this movie was pretty much the first to do the Disney Parody _by disney_ It laid the groundwork for things like Frozen (Marrying after one day might not be the best Idea) and other movies that try not to be quite so fairytale like .
But I actually like in this movie that they don't go with the message: Reality is better then fairy tales even if everything isn't perfect. Instead it's more: Everyone is happy in a different way. Giselle is happier living reality with it's ups and downs and Nancy is happier living the fairytale dream. Also, lets face it, she'll have Edward wrapped around her little finger.
The hotel the Prince and Nathaniel are staying at is called the Grand Duke, in reference to Cinderellas Grand Duke
Yaaay, this is such an awesome movie to react to! 🖤 Edward is just adorable. Also, Giselle's "model" of prince looks way more like Robert, than Edward, but that's hard to catch on a first watch.
And just a notion, not too suspicious as cute girls do get free stuff, especially free drinks from bartenders :)
They are both handsome men but Patrick is much more my type than James. Even now he;s aged like a fine wine.
@@truthseeker9249 I agree in terms of appearance. In terms of character I used to like Robert more, too. However, during the last year I came to conclusion that a guy who makes you laugh and is sure of himself\his feelings for you is way better than a man who needs you to have some magical powers to move his cold closed off heart.
@@rekkanablackwood8790 That is true. And my boyfriend is all of those things. He is a man with feelings he is just always afraid of expressing them but we're working on it.
@@truthseeker9249 Aww I'm so happy for you guys, wish you all the best
@@rekkanablackwood8790 Thank you!
19:25 James Marsden ASKED for the bikers to actually run him over, because he wanted it to be realistic.
I've watched this movie a few times in the past, quite sweet and entertaining. In watching your after commentary, Omg...Nick - you kept calling Giselle>> Anastasia! 😝 She was from- Andalasia. The Evil Step-Mother was- Susan Sarandon who is a very well known actress. At some point you should react to- Easy A with Emma Stone! She's great in it.
If you look closely at the caramell apple that Nathaniel tempts Giselle with, the caramell forms the same skull form as the poisoned apple The Queen/Witch makes.
Yes it does lol 😂 if you look closely
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie as much as I did when I first saw it, and it had you chuckling through the whole story along with rooting for Giselle and Robert to get together. It looks like Giselle will be one of the few "good" stepmothers who came from a fairytale land to join the whole host of good stepmothers in reality. I hope Disenchanted will be as good!
Now, remember what Giselle's mannequin of her 'True Love' looks like @ 2:33. This will be important later!
Yup it's a nod to Giselle's actual true love Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey)
It just occurred to me the prince's servant in Princess and the Frog must have been directly based on this guy the queen's minion
Robert's secretary is Jodie Benson, Ariels VA, and the background is scored with Part of Your World.
The caramel apple drizzle is meant to look like the skull design on the poison apple from snow white.
Did you notice that the clothes he was wearing while they danced? It was the blue one she saw in her dream.
Nancy's surname is Tremaine, the stepmother surname in cinderella
The pink flowers on Giselles dress are actually little Mickey mouses. Same goes for the bus drivers hair.
So many Disney Easter eggs. Many people who were in Disney movies when they were younger were characters.
This movie is AMAZING! One of my all time favorites. So glad you reacted to it and I for one am looking forward to the sequel.
Around 18:45 where you see the elderly people dancing, I think they were the chimney sweeps in Mary Poppins
The old men in the song in the park (who give the women yellow flowers) are the men who danced in the Chimney Sweep scene in the original Mary Poppins.
Now THAT is awesome 👌
@@nickreacts6394 IKR? This movie is full of stuff like that, like the secretary being the one who voiced Ariel. If you listen carefully, when Robert walks out and she vehemently gestures him over to talk about Giselle, you can hear the melody of “A Part of Your World” playing in the background
a FIRST time reaction to ENCHANTED from THOR ?? what a treat 🫶
Love this film so much. I have seen this film so many times. Its my favourite movie from the 00s. Cannot wait for Disenchanted on Friday.
Love this film too I’ve seen it so many times too lol 😂 it’s my favorite movie as well
Everytime I see or read "apple martini" I need to think about the scene in 'Lucifer' where Eva ordered her apple martini (in green). It's such a cool modernisation!
The reason the thing with the fish during the one office scene is funny is because that's Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel
(Sorry if someone got this already. I didn't scroll all the way down in the comments to check)
Great reaction! :D This film is just a lot of fun.
I have been saying for years that it is a crime that Idina Menzel’s character id the only one in this film who doesn’t sing - at least Disney realized their mistake and made up for it with Frozen. ;)
Fun fact - the old men who gave those big flowers to the old women in “That’s how you know” and did that little dance, they’re all dancers from the “Step in time” sequence from the film Mary Poppins! :D One of many fantastic Disney cameos in this film, along with Ariel’s VA Jodi Benson as Robert’s secretary.
Notice that the troll from the start is outside the window also wanting his copy of Pip's book to be signed.
Speaking of the troll, if you look closely, his loin cloth is made from the dresses that all Disney Princesses up til that point, plus he wears Ariel's shells like ear rings.
The song they dance to at the ball, called So Close, took heavy inspiration from the title song from Beauty and the Beast.
I had a friend when I was in high school, he was in his early 20s (I had known his family forever), and he met a woman, proposed after 2 weeks, got married after 3 months, and they’ve been married for 10 years and have 4 kids last I heard. It can be done. Very rare though.
I feel like a lot of people don't notice how during the song "how does she know" Robert says "I don't dance , and I really don't sing" and she told him that's how you know someone loves you, an then at the ball during the climax when they're dancing, he's singing along w the song to her so she will know how he feels and that he loves her. My favorite part of the movie :)
Shrek was released in 2001, while Enchanted was released in 2007, in fact the same year as Shrek the Third.
I was totally surprised by how much I ended up loving this movie.
Oh the upside down Giselle was an Alice in Wonderland reference.
The secretary is Jodie benson the voice of Ariel from the little mermaid
Anastasia? Her name is Giselle though 😅 If you haven't done it yet you should do a reaction for that film. It's not Disney but DreamWorks does amazing animated films too, which you saw with Prince of Egypt as the prime example. I found it ironic when you said that Nancy just couldn't be the princess in the cartoon world and a) she ends up as that in the end and b) that's the voice of Elsa from Frozen 🤣 So I think you may want to amend that statement, sir. I'm also looking forward to Disenchanted, the trailer looked good.
That caught me off guard as well 😅
The wedding dress that Giselle (Amy Adams) wore weighed forty-five pounds. A stunt double taught Adams how to move in the dress. She described it as "gruelling" since "the entire weight was on my hips, so occasionally it felt like I was in traction."
I'm sure that Giselle was trying to free the fish from the aquarium, thinking it's like a dungeon for them.
Well if you think about it Nancy can actually compete with Giselle who's a princess from another dimension with superpowers cause she IS too, with OP ice magic. (She played Elsa from Frozen)
Loved this Mr Thordo! 😄 love seeing you react to these kind of movies and cant wait for the sequel!
Disenchanted is coming up soon!
2:34 That’s actually Robert’s ball outfit, meaning that Robert was the 1 Giselle was dreaming of and her real true love not Edward.
Lmao! I thought the phone notification at 36:43 was my own phone notification. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was a fun movie. Hopefully the sequel is good.
I love this movie! I also have fun finding all the refrences to other Disney movies
I love this movie!!
“R.I.P. The Pizza”
More like, R.I.Pizza
🤣
Great thanks for the reaction!
This is one pf my favorite movies! 💛🔥 Thanks for the reaction!
I love that they make clear that some things Giselle does are off in our modern day era ... But not necessary being rude about it, I think they did a good job there! I love this movie, I hope the sequel is as good as this one
Always enjoy & appreciate ur reactions mate!👍 Thank u soo much 4 all ur awesome content!👌 Much ĺove & good vibes from Australia man xo🥰 💚🇦🇺💜
Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel, plays Robert’s coworker. 🐠
I think the least realistic thing about the "That's How You Know" number is all those brides being cool with the fact that 1- they're all in the same dress and 2- They're being totally upstaged by Amy Adams on their wedding day
Tangled was in production during the released of this film so they couldn't have parodied directly from that Disney film.
The show that is on the tv is a insert from Young and the Restless. My mom loves that show I was practically forced to watch it with her and don't forget Days of our Lives 😭🤣. I liked this movie
I think there was some confusion about Amy Adams' character. You were calling her Anastasia which is probably confused with where she was from - Andalasia. Her name is Ghiselle.
There's a theory out there that Giselle knows, even if only subconsciously, that biting into the apple is a kind of suicide. And would rather end her suffering than live with the pain of love lost in such a way.
I like how Susan Sarandon plays the evil old women, that iv heard a lot of older actresses gets to play.
I love that Jodi Benson is in here as Roberts like desk lady. Every since I was a toddler this has been my favorite Disney movieeee. I love the hiring cast too, they're all so slay, I love them, even the minor characters. Such good casting.
Susan Sarandon>>
Patrick Dempsey>>
All so good and slay
This movie literally came out when I was 6 years old in 2007 and yes I am that generation from the 2001. I am currently 21 and I just saw disenchanted the sequel today so I was so giddy like a little kid and I loved the film and I do love the sequel but the part that I love the most was the song love of power this time indina sings it and its special to me. Also I wish they had again the opening and closing of the book and also bring back Julie andrews as the narrator but yeah I loved it
I learned the love song for my parents anniversary
I didn’t manage to sing it for them bc it was getting late
So excited for this😊
Nancy's last name is Tremaine, in reference to the evil stepmother from Cinderella.
This gets even better when you remember she WAS the stepmother in Camille's Cinderella
And here she literally became Cinderella by wearing the slipper from Prince Edward. 😂
I loved Amy's performance in this. Another good chick flick is just like heaven
I really liked Just Like Heaven!
Great movie
i realized the guy is dr dreamy on greys anatomy now lol i love this movie tho. and the other dude played in harry potter
The secretary is literally Jodi Benson
You: it's gonna be rough with no animals there...
Me: *snort!* you thought... lol
My favorite character is Giselle.
