18:43 Fun fact: That was not scripted! They wanted Jim Carrey to pull it off and have everything go flying off the table for a gag. But Carrey is such a master at it he kept doing it perfectly, so finally, he just went back and knocked everything off by hand, and that's the take they went with.
Makes it funnier that he did it perfectly then went back and knocked stuff everywhere deliberately 😂
It’s like Ghostbusters “the flowers are still standing”
That’s so awesome never heard this story this move is so underrated and gets a lot of hate but I love this movie Jim Carrey was born to play the grinch!
@@RandyReviews1990 idk why it gets hate, i think it's WAYYY better than the holiday short, i guess the haters arent Carrey fans.
not me coming to the comments 2 seconds in to type this fact only to see its already here
When Martha May's telling her side of the story, she has remnants of the Grinchs gift in her hair.
Omg! I never noticed, that is so sweet 😭 now I love her character even more 💖
Wow, I didn't notice
And she wore green eye shadow the entire time.
This movie is absolutely insane! And that's why I love it. Jim Carrey really makes the character his own and refuses to hold back.
Me too.
He does that with every role he plays.
The best thing about Jim Carrey is he’s unbelievably versatile and keeps you guessing with his performances
There's a very popular theory that his speech about all the Christmas presents he finds in the dump is also an explanation for how he got Max.
Just a little Christmas puppy that someone didn't bother taking back and just up and dumped.
That makes so much sense but that’s so sad 😭
I always thought the puppies were delivered like the babies in baskets and Max got delivered that same night and just became a lost pup in town or he could have even landed in the dump and made it his home before Grinch arrived but in The Grinch meets his Max, there’s not too much info beside Max just showed up at his doorstep and that Max scratched an itch on his back and boom he was his dog lol
they clarify this in "Grinch Night", which is another animation similar to The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Max was indeed refuse and Grinch took him in, hence why the pooch is so loyal to him.
Makes total sense :(
Whats REALLY funny about Grinch going through through the phonebook and his "Hate, Hate, Hate...Double Hate....LOATHE ENTIRELY" scene is the fact that only people truly paying attention would realize who he was referring to. Once you recall that Whoville has a relatively small population, the Grinch started with Advarkian Abakanezer Who and remember the mayor's name (Augustus Who) and it become apparent that said loathing was a reference to the bully.
i like this version. he was just a poor bullied kid who ended up alone and isolated. he just wanted to be left alone but people kept coming to his out ofthe way place and bothering him. i can relate to not wanting to deal with a bunch of jerks and just wanting to stay home and avoid them. he clearly did enjoy being accepted. he took so well to the festivities before the mayor gave him that horrible gift to remind him of his past trauma. im glad that the woman he liked liked him back. and cindy is wonderful. max is such a good dog.
I love how Max is basically the Grinch’s conscience 😂😂😂
basically XD
The angel on the shoulder
Ron Howard’s brother plays the mayors assistant and I think his daughter Bryce is in this too.
Jim said he wanted to quit the first day because of the hours in the make up chair, Ron had to hire a guy who was in like the FBI or something who was an expert in torture and how to endure it to give him tips on how to deal with the anxiety of being in the costume.
Jim was making fun of Ron Howard in the scene where he is wearing a baseball cap giving Max acting tips, Ron is known for wearing a baseball cap.
Clint Howard is always a treat in any film he's in.
Edit: I literally just found out it was his daughter Jocelyn who is in this one. He got small parts and cameos for just about his whole immediate family.
Rob's dad wad also in it as the elderly Who with the long beard.
Ron also went through the same process once, and spent the day directing everything in Grinch makeup as a show of solidarity. Jim was quite touched at the gesture.
I grew up with the animated Grinch. When this first came out, I thought: "No way this will be good..." I'm glad I was wrong. Now I watch both of them every year. Reminds me of good times and memories. 🐾🐾🍻
I honestly went back and forth on how I felt about this movie. It's not until recently that I actually came to liking it.
They're both classics. The Illumination one on the other hand is extremely bland imo.
There’s a theory that the Grinch was supposed to end up on a flower with Horton’s Whos and that’s why he doesn’t fit in with the Snowflake Whos
Cindy Lou Who is now the lead singer of the Pretty Reckless
No way! Really? I love their music I never knew that
@@anangelcalledtoday8750 way
Cindy was scared of The Grinch when she met him the first time but she wasn't after he saved him, because she saw that there's some kindness in him.
Even Anthony Hopkins points that out. How hard is that to understand?
Thats a smart and precious kid, who judges a person on the acts, she was scared of him cause he scared her, she wasn’t scared anymore when he saved her
The scene where the Grinch was playing director to give Max his motivation was a joke the crew did, poking fun, at Ron Howard. They set it up and surprised him with it on set, and he liked it so much he decided to keep it in the final cut.
Cindy Lou is now the lead singer of the metal band “The Pretty Reckless”
Omg this is my absolute favorite Christmas movie. My absolute favorite Jim Carrey role
I have not seen the animated version of this movie. Just might check it out
The reason for the cottony tinsel in the tree is so that it looks like The Grinch has a beard on, making him look like Santa or Cindy would diffenitely recognize him, as she has seen him earlier, unlike the storybook version and the Chuck Jones cartoon. Illumination's the Grinch does this similiarly but with The Grinch actually donning a beard to make sure that IF anyone would see him, they thought he really was Santa.
You hadn't seen this version before? How is that even possible?😁 Oh well, at least you've seen it now. Absolute classic. Merry Christmas! Cheers!
Fun fact: when the lady was using that cannon thing to shoot her lights up, they couldn't make it really work, so what they did was film her sucking/reeling the lights in and reversed the film for the shot we see in the movie. Something like that. Cheers Again!!!
The scene you played in the intro where the grinch perfectly pulls the table sheet off the table was actually unrehearsed, Jim Carrey was meant to mess it up but instead did it perfect so he came back and pushed it all off
This movie is a classic doesn’t matter how many time you’ve watched it you still laugh along and re-quote everything. The scene where Cindy Lou interviews Martha she’s wearing the jewels in her hair that the grinch gave her 🦋
There's a deleted scene that shows the christmas lights contest and when the Mayor is about to announce the winner we see Betty Lou's name on the card, but he announces Martha May the winner instead to butter her up for his proposal, so the Mayor doesn't just screw over the Grinch, he'll screw over anyone in his way.
(Also what is the Roast Beast supposed to be? It looks like a red christmas goose but it also has 8 legs)
Lol I was asking my friend the same thing recently.
This is a Christmas favorite of mine and there aren’t many. One of my favorite Jim Carey roles. He went through a lot just to get through this movie and bring us a great performance and I have so much respect for him. He did have to be coached by the CIA, that is correct. Though it was more just them helping him come up with methods to distract himself from the makeup process ( which took up to 8 hours to apply- someone correct me if I’ve got it wrong. Point was, it took a LONG time). It wasn’t anything majorly exciting. He was instructed to do things like smoke, hit himself on the legs, breathing exercises, watch tv, keep conversations going with the make up team or whoever was nearby- it was mostly just how to handle extreme claustrophobia. We are all very lucky he believed so strongly that the film would be a success and had the determination to keep going or we wouldn’t have this gem of a movie today.
It was how to best cope/handle *being tortured,* not really bcs of the makeup process but *being in* the costume and makeup. I'd imagine it was horribly warm and itchy and covering every inch of our skin not allowing it to breathe can have many adverse effects you'd never think about. The Very long process is more an explanation why he couldn't take breaks from it and it probably wasn't something "majorly exciting" bcs there isn't terribly much you can do 😅
My favorite fun fact relating to this movie is that Taylor Momsen went on to front The Pretty Reckless. The second is the whole Jim Carrey accidentally did the tablecloth pull trick perfectly, then went back and messed up the table LMAO. 😂 Happy xmas folks.
shes got an amazing voice. love her band
@Thor Reacts, when the Grinch is alone, directing Max, etc., he’s actually imitating the director, Ron Howard. Brilliant! 😸
That’s what some of the commenters are saying and it makes sense I would love for Ron Howard to confirm this lol.
@@RandyReviews1990 It’s confirmed in behind the scenes 😉 They talk about Ron’s directing style, it’s hilarious! 😹
My family makes a point of watching this movie multiple times during the Christmas season... which for my mother starts after Halloween.
It's played 9 times since October in my house.
After all these years, I still notice new little details in it.
oof... that's a bit overkill, i mean i know this movie is great, but DAMN!
Dr Seuss' child stories are not as well known in France than in the US, and this movie had his little success here rather on Jim Carrey's renown than on the story itself (I mean, the only time I saw the Grinch's cartoon before, was in Home Alone 1&2).
That said, other adaptation of Seuss' tales had come to us, and I'd say my favorite was 2008's Horton hears a Who (once again with Jim Carrey and his pal Steve Carell, as voices actors).
Jim Carrey had to learn torture survival methods to deal with the costuming and makeup. I believe it was from a Navy Seal. I felt bad for Jim , but I guess he could get into the grinchy mood easily having to endure that process. 🤷🏼♀️
One of the most underrated Christmas movies. This is an incredible movie and performance and I fought watching it for years. I admit my mistake.
Fun fact Jim Carrey actually did all those faces ,he's a master contour of faces .
No CGI required.
Not that surprising 😂
The gag where the Grinch rips a t-shirt is actually a reference to Hulk Hogan from the World Wresteling Federation in the late 80's/early 90's. He used to rip his shirt to show his strenght and how macho he was.
My dad, me and older sister watched this movie in theaters when I was a kid! My mom and me watch it every year for Christmas, and now I watch it with my own daughter.
Thanks for posting this on Christmas. Many of us are alone and do really appreciate the company.
If you could then please react to "Lyle, Lyle Crocodile", "Two Brothers" tiger movie, and "Shiloh" dog movie. All so underrated and nobody has reacted to them yet. They deserve some spotlight.
I love how the mayor's assistant just shaves his own head too 😂 I'm surprised he didn't offer to marry the mayor after Martha rejected him lol
in Spain we never got the cartoon, so imagine this being the first Grinch experience when the movie came out. amazing then and forever
The grinch never liked Christmas to begin with eating Santa plates and drawing Santa slay getting shot down before he even gave that gift at school and got laughed at.
At least that day he TRIED to give Christmas a chance.
@@fynnthefox9078 yah obviously. I made this comment because everyone says OH so that’s why he hates Christmas. I’m just pointing out that he never did like Christmas in the first place
@@eagle1onoteagle10I wouldn’t say “never liked”. More like had his own twisted way of it. One would argue the drawing of Santa falling off the sleigh is just his way of humoring himself, while him biting the Santa plate was because he has a different appetite (note him eating glass)
@@mikephelps9238 sure you change my wording so you could put it like that 👍 .if you want
You've just earned yourself a new subscriber for all of this content.
Hey Thor, as someone who's subscribed to you and White Noise Reacts, i love how both you and James share the same idea of Max being the next Daniel Day Lewis lol
Merry Christmas dude! 🎊🎉☺👍
haha I'm gonna have to check out that reaction now, crazy how my brother and I can be on the exact same wavelength!
Saw this in the theater with my parents and we cracked up laughing! Also MERRY CHRISTMAS ⛄🎄🧑🎄❄️🌨️
Merry Christmas Thor and friend in the comments! This is a fun movie. Jim Carry's chaotic nature fits the Grinch so well.
This is my favorite Christmas movie!!!!!!!
I love when the Grinch becomes the director he's making fun of the actual director Ron Howard in that scene. This film is just pure magic no Christmas pun intended 🤣
I love the way Jim Carrey sang the iconic song "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" while adding his own comedic elements to it like the hilarious sound effects. And his freak out when the sleigh takes off. "We're going to die!! We're going to die!! I'm going to throw up, and then I'm going to die!! Mommy, tell it to stop!!" Also I really love how the actress who played Cindy Lou, Taylor Momsen went on to be the front woman and lead singer of a band called The Pretty Reckless. Also, I can sympathize with the Grinch, having been a victim of bullying growing up. I know the feeling of not liking people because of it.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe and MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄🌨️🧑🎄❄️⛄
Probably my 3rd favorite Jim Carrey film. After Truman Show and Burt Wonderstone (supporting but steals every damn scene he is in). This was an unexpectedly charming and fun and good movie.
Merry Christmas, dear Thor...🎄🎁🎊🍾🥳 thank you for making our days so much better with your amazing videos...I always smile when I see that you uploaded a new video...😁🧡💚💜💛💙❤️ I hope you're having a wonderful time with your loved ones and family💖💝...this movie is my childhood and Jim Carreys acting is really good...yes this is based on a dr. Seuss book... fun fact: the scene where he pulled the sheet everything on the table was suppose to fall and go all over the place but accidentally Jim Carrey pulled it so fast that everything stayed perfectly then he came back and made everything fall with his hands...since it was funny they decided to keep it in the movie...😅
and yes that is true what you said in the beginning
Literally only watched the first minute and a half and the movie hasn't started yet, but I still subscribed cause I can already tell I'll like this channel.
Thank you!!
In the book “Horton hears a who” whoville is small enough to fit on a speck, it makes sense they experience winter when they get caught up in a snowflake
*Grinch puts hot metal into mouth* "Don't try this at home."
I actually remember asking my grandma if this was a possible thing to do in real life. I was about 8-9, and her only response was, "You can. Once."
And that was how I learned our family went by the rule: 'We'll tell you once, but after that it's up to you to survive.'
I had your titanic reaction open and ready to watch but i had to go somewhere and when i came back it was stolen from right in front of my eyes by youtube 😭😭 i'm grateful for this grinch reaction
It’ll be out soon, just battling copyright
Great movie
this is one of the best Christmas movies ever, so much fun, so much heart, so lovely, Jim Carrey as Grinch is just perfect :D just sitting down on Christmas, chillin, covered in blanket, drinking chocolate, while its snowing outside, putting this on and you got yourself the perfect time :)
grew up watching this movie and love it from beginning to end also hope you watch Jim Carrey's A Christmas Carol as well
I had a christmas breakfast with my mom and my sister, gave each other present and had lunch later 💛 and coming home to watch this reaction while drinking coffee while eating pan de pascua is perfect 🌟💛 thanks for the reaction! This movie brings a lot of memories about me, my mom and sister laughing at so many jokes from the movies! Is such a great movie. Lots of love from Chile 💛🌟🇨🇱
This is my favourite christmas movie, no questions.
"The anger"
"The fury"
"The muscles"
I LOVE THIS
I'm glad that they let Jim Carrey be as wacky and flexible as possible, because that costume/makeup was literal torture for him.
He should've gave Mike Myers some advice when he played the Cat in the Hat.
The four horsemen are Baby Grinch, Baby/Toddler Vision, Baby Sinclair, and Lumpy (Chewbacca's son)
Are you kidding the sun is shining and the powders b****en 😂 I love how the grinch said that
10:13 love how that joke completely went over ur head 😆
I always liked this movie, but understood it ten times better after I worked retail, specifically a Black Friday sale. The time this released made it VERY relevant because the shopping season had gotten out of control. That theme is in the original too, but I think the emphasis in the remake makes the character more relatable. We all get burned out on the holidays now and again, specifically on the consumerism side. Great react, good introspection at the end!
Merry Christmas to you too
Jim Carrey did get trained by a specialist who train agents to withstand torture, and he would sit between takes hitting his leg, chain smoking cigarets in one of those long cigaret holder so the costume wouldn't catch fire telling himself 'it's for the children', simply to get through the pain.
Great Christmas movie. It’s one of Jim Carry’s best films. Hope your having a great Christmas Nick ❤
The moment when the Grinch dons a t-shirt and begins acting like a monster, ripping the shirt, it's an homage to the 1970's-80's TV version of "The Incredible Hulk". Every time David Banner "Hulked out", (turned into a big, green monster), he'd burst out of his shirt. Younger viewers of this movie just don't get the reference, but for those of us who watched "The Incredible Hulk" religiously as kids, watching one green "monster" riffing off of another classic green monster is pretty funny.
magical worlds in snowflakes, universes in marbles and worlds in some bus/train station lockers.
Good reaction thank you
Fun Fact: Taylor Momsen the girl who plays cindy lou is the lead singer of the band The Pretty Reckless
also your the first one i have seen that showed " its not a dress its a kilt" part most other youtubers show when he got that table cloth or after he said the line or they just skip it so your the first that showed the scene with the line as well
18:38
The Grinch and I seem to share the same schedule 😂
It always makes me kerfuffled that I grew up with this movie and now Cindie Lou Who is the the singer of the Pretty Reckless, one of my favorite rock bands...
I've watched this movie every year, and even saw it in the theater when it first came out, and I somehow never noticed that the scene at the end was in the Grinch's cave.
Best Grinch movie, and I don't think it will ever be topped.
Happy Holidays Thor! This reaction is going to lift my spirits especially I had a horrible six months.
Omg I can’t believe I haven’t seen you react to these Christmas movies yet lmao. This is the best Christmas movie of all time imo
This is the best Christmas movie.
2:00 I also heard that Jim Carrey threw up while he was spinning on a swing when he was singing you’re a mean one mr grinch
It is such an iconic movie. Jim Carrey did a good job with this movie, am I right? 😏
You’re right.
i love how you casually skipped over the fact that the new car was "Generously Donated by the tax payers of Whoville" what a ham the mayor is..
Fun fact: Taylor Momsen (Cindy Lou Who) was one of the finalists for the role of Hannah Montana! It was her, Miley Cyrus, and Trina from Victorious
Merry Christmas Mr Thordo 🎉🥰🎄 hope you have a wonderful holiday and thanks so much for this! Looking forward to all the new content to come in 2023 ✨️🇬🇧🎉🥳🎄🎁
I watched this film for the first time around 2004-2005. Legend!
Jim Carrey love to improvise when he pulled the sheet off the table all the stuff was going to knock over but instead he it stayed up on and he decided to roll with it and test not all the plates over instead it made everyone behind the camera laugh he was so crazy with the role of the GrandStay he would go out in his makeup with a knife and scared to people on the universal studio tour bus people never knew it was him cuz of all the makeup.
The widow of Dr Seuss met Jim on the set of Man in the Moon to see if he was right for the part. He was so into his role as Andy Kauffman that he had to do an impression of Andy pretending to be Jim Carrey pretending to be the Grinch. The casting of Sir Anthony Hopkins as the narrator mirrors the casting of Boris Karloff in the original cartoon as they’re both horror film alums. 1:43 yes he almost quit because the first time he put it on it was painful so they brought in a CIA person to teach him anti torture techniques. Ron Howard was so grateful for Jim to endure all those hours in costume that he decided to go through the process of getting in the costume and directing the whole day in it. Jim saw someone in the Grinch outfit and thought they hired a stunt double that looked nothing like him and was mad until Ron explained what he was doing. I think that’s why Jim filmed the scene where he’s directing Max to be a reindeer mimicking Ron Howard’s directing style. Ron loved it and kept it in the movie. All Jim’s facial expressions though are him. There’s a video on RUclips of Jim without makeup doing the facial expressions. He based the voice off Sean Connery. He would smoke cigarettes to cope with the stress of the suit which he compared to being buried alive. The suit though was Yak hair and very flammable so he had to use a very long cigarette holder to not catch on fire. He also admitted to feeling ashamed at some of the adult humor and tried to keep it age-appropriate but according to Ron Howard the studio interfered and wanted some of the adult humor kept in. Dr Seuss’ widow had final veto power on the script and had issue with the humor aimed at adult audiences, they wanted to put a stuffed Cat in the Hat head in the Grinch’s lair and they wanted to put a house with no decorations who were the Who-steins and Jewish. 2:26 that’s funny you say it’s giving you Tim Burton vibes when he was originally set to direct it but had a conflict with another film. 19:00 of course cause we all wear a garter belt with our kilts. The yodeler is Brian Grazer’s brother. Ron Howard also has his brother, father and daughter in the film. 21:25 I wonder how much of what the cheer meister had to do this year was the mayor’s way of bullying the Grinch again. Jim Carrey adlibbed most of his Grinch lines. He’s one of the few actors that you could hand the idea of a script and say “have fun”. The actress who voiced Cindy-Lou Who in the original cartoon saw this version and hated it saying she was glad Chuck Jones (who did the cartoon) wasn’t able to attend the viewing due to his health saying that seeing it would’ve “finished him off”. Apparently she didn’t realize or didn’t care that Seuss’ widow ok’d the script and the movie meaning she was fine with it (since she had final say on the script).
Merry Christmas ⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
I am very very glad you enjoyed this movie! This movie was a huge part of my childhood growing up. And it has 2 of my most favorite Christmas songs ever. If you’re interested in more Christmas films, I’d like to recommend these for next year: Christmas with the Kranks (Tim Allen and Jaime Lee Curtis), Deck the Halls (Matthew Broderick and Danny Devito), The Polar Express, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.

💚❤️
Great movie thanks for the reaction. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas I hope that you enjoyed this movie. I know that I enjoyed this reaction.
So to clarify, the makeup process was long, sometimes painful, and just exhausting, so Jim had to train with a Cia trainer who specializes in training operatives to resist torture tactics
Jim carrey can just move his face in weird ways. His face is like rubber in a cartoon
I mean, he was in the Mask before this. My guess was that movie being why they considered Jim.
I grew up with this one. But I watched the other two for the first time this year.
I know I'm late but fun fact all the barks and noises max makes in this are actually made by a voice actor. And the voice actor who they got was the legendary frank welker otherwise known as Fred Jones and Scoobert Doobert Doo from Scooby Doo
Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Krismasi Njema. I gotta tell you this movie was just chef’s kiss and Jim Carey was the perfect grinch. Benedict Cumberbatch version gives this one a bad name
When The Grinch directs Max, he makes a parody on director Ron Howard.
Never realized how alike the Grinch is to megamind it's a pretty similar story to this movie honestly
In my adult age this movie feels more like a parody of Christmas movies then actually a Christmas movie
and Jim carry har to learn anti torture methods in order to being us this amazing movie i salute him
I only know this Grinch, not a cartoon one. I hope you had a very happy Christmas Nick 😘🎄
Damn that hair is amazing
The bit with tablecloth was unintentional, he meant to knock everything off but the pulled it out without doing that, so that was actually a mistake that was left in
A lot of fun to watch, I enjoy your channel and appreciate the effort you put into it. Happy Holidays 🎄🎉
Thank you very much, happy holidays!!
26:27 Carrey I believe is referencing Ron Howard with this, and it was actually improvised because the dog kept taking the nose off.
He was actually imitating Ron Howard's directing style.
ngl i'mmunching on chocolate watching you watch this and feeling like the gaurdians of the galaxy got a christmas special why can't thor & it be him watching a christmas classic
Jim Carry is the BEST GRINCH EVER in Christmas movie history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since you enjoyed this, Jim Carrey and the who's and the whole concept of there being a whole world on something small, you need to watch Horton Hears a Who Next. Also a Dr Seuss also Jim Carrey also who's and same concept but different and great in it's own way!
