It's also the reason why trucks like the CAT 745c or the Azov 42-20 do so well in mud, because they have a whopping 600 tire weight. I guess if your routes make use of icy roads, it makes sense. Personally I learned to avoid them in Amur, especially that sideways rocky outcrop near the island warehouse.
Using a short cut means using a route that does take shorter than the normal route. This is per definition the better way. If it takes longer, it's not a short cut. ;)
Neutral does save fuel, but not when idling, just like real life funnily enough and Neutral free wheeling is higher top speed than most gearboxes. Apart from you not understanding how neutral works irl or in game. This was a decent video!
These are great questions that are put to the test. I was hoping you could make a best tips video for more advanced players. There are a ton of tricks that I have learned, only from playing hours and hours of this game. Every, Tips and Tricks, video I have watched seem to focus on basic game mechanics. For example, I use the winch to pull trailers close to a hitch, rather than trying to position the truck close to the trailer. I'm not sure if that's a basic tip or not, but it took me a while before I figured that out. Another tip is when moving large cargo on a flat bed, like the air plane body, if you un-pack the cargo as you move through dense trees it wont' get caught on them.
I often took shortcuts while playing with my friends. I ususally drive in the back cuz I find it fun to see what they doing, but I also often look around to search for a shortcut. Not once it went like ,,How the hell did you get in front of us" :D Tho there were moments when I had to say: - Guys, I have problem, lorry go 1 2 3, now I'm upside down please help x'D So it's a risk-reward and pretty much exploring the map!
I feel like chained tyres are still useful in Amur. Some routes combine both mudy trail and icy roads. Yes, you can still go on the shoulder or winch yourself but it is awkward somehow. Driving with chained tyres are more delightful. However you need a really large tyre to pass through mudy trails. Looks like size is the most important factor here.
@@pseudocoffee4829 The myth buster type video? It is tempting, seems to have done well. I also will do an advanced tips and tricks video as I think there is enough out there to make it useful.
They're still working on content for Season 2, so I doubt it's in the works yet. I don't doubt there will be a sequel and hopefully even other games with similar driving physics.
The success of SnowRunner guarantees it will live on, but maybe focus will be on that Dakar game is the licence really is now owned by Saber/Focus. I'm leaning more towards a sequel than Year 3 content but not by much!
I REALLY wish they would get their physics and realism figured out. Sliding out of control at 35mph on dry pavement is just ridiculous. Top speed of 35mph is stupid. Shallow mud slowing you down like it tar is nonsense. Not being able to keep wheel speed up and your engine bogging in mud is polar opposite of what happens in real life. Being able to increase wheel speed and power through mud is impossible, and wheelspeed somehow makes traction disappear?! They should be able to develop a model that is stable across multiple traction models. As it is, it is super hard for me to get back into it, because most of the missions are such a boring slog its not very rewarding to accomplish them, and the insane on road physics just make me wonder who the hell thinks that trucks act that way at all. Highway maps are completely useless and as far from realistic you can get. These trucks, especially OTR style semis, should be able to go 90mph rock solid stable, and also realistically drive slowly. I had a lot more fun with mudrunner and the use of logging equipment, while snowrunner is just a LOT of boring driving through unrealistically muddy environments in trucks that don't deal with it like they should. Can't wait until they, or someone else, figures it all out.
Presumably you would get improved mud traction at the front but based on some admittedly simple tests it seemed to make little difference. Likewise, unsure if it's really that much different on ice.
5. Shortcuts: Are not a Myth instead it's a Fact that a good found (or intentional) shortcut is faster than the regular way! And i encountered many in my playthrough that are not riskier than the regular route.
Can confirm, sliding down in neutral down the road to the pump in the Paystar TS with a fuel cistern + trailer is still the most fun way to refuel in hard mode
@@ATribeCalledCars Having it in any gear is slower than neutral on any paved slope. It's so much fun in Alaska, I would turn the engine off, save some fuel and risk it with the handbrake + gearbox only, no brakes or winching when the engine's off...
Something I would be interested in seeing is related to trucks towing other trucks via winch. It seems that when you do this your speed is capped at a certain point even if the truck doing the pulling is more than powerful enough to go faster. Is this speed consistent? Does it change when the truck being towed has the engine on or has it off and is sitting in neutral?
Interesting questions. The engine on/off option is quite new, used to be that you lugged a truck round at one speed only. I did notice engine on sped things up, presumably at the expense of fuel being used by the towed truck. It does feel as if there is a speed cap but I've never really tested it!
I find towing some trucks they either catch up with you or you're dragging them. The default option for a towed truck is auto/open diff. Depending on diff options for lorry you're towing.
Styrofoam on top of a kid's bouncy castle. Some mods tweak the suspension brilliantly to avoid this but it's probably mainly down to the inconsistent physics. Which, word on the street, is getting adjusted in a future update. But maybe this is false. We'll see...
If they ever do a Snowrunner 2 it had BETTER have better physics! I don't just want to crawl through mud with a clunky transmission. I want to go mud bogging! And straight up racing with fast prorunners, buggies, etc. I don't want just the physics for the ponderous heavy stuff but also straight up road rallying!
One thing is that if you have a truck or scout that has selectable awd on while it’s parked the fuel consumption is higher than it would be if awd was turned off
I have went down a hill in neutral and it has only used as much fuel as in idle. When in gear you still have to accelerate just to keep moving or else it will gear down and stop. I feel like that is a true statement. Now being in high gear while going down a hill will use less fuel than being in auto and still keep you going at the same speed as its designed for without losing control bc... you know... snowrunne's poor tarmac physics.
When you say "busted" you should try and use a tone of voice like the old ea sports logo that would pop up on PS1 games. Deeper as apposed to the high singing tone. : > ]
No kidding, but I kinda suspected it when I used a scout with mud tires, and one with chain tires; the Khan 39 just bulldozed through the snow like nothing while the chain-tired Kahn 317 bogged out so bad I had to winch myself free.
It depends on the "shortcut". There are a few shortcuts that I've done that actually have saved time. So long as you're not trying to race across the whole map, roll-overs shouldn't be an issue. The only time's I've rolled a truck has been exploring a new area of a map, or because I decided to full send it through an area cause I got impatient.
@@ATribeCalledCars We humans really need to learn from mistakes. And you can start with yourself. *Proceeds again on that shortcut I know is going to fail*

There is only 1 exception I can think of to the "II = best in mud" rule, and that is with the OHD set of offroad tires. The UOD Offroads follow the rule, UOD II is easily the best UOD tire. But OHD don't. While I'm sure the OHD II has the mud grip bonus, the OHD I has a default mud value of 1.9 compared to OHD II 1.5. I just can't see the OHD II's mud bonus being enough to overcome the OHD I base values seeing the OHD I has a .4 advantage over the OHD II. Other then OHD you are right though, with every other tire the ones marked with II should be the best on mud. The OHD are just the outlier.
Hey Ben, in the section about winching yourself what was the massive 48(?) wheeled monster we saw and where/why do you need to use it? I’ve never seen that anywhere in the game - or is that a mod?
This game hasn't been the same since they capped mods. Idk, Love all the work you do Sir! (had to fix the time stamp)
Yeah basically what you said and grade IV exists for some tyre types. Google the SnowRunner tyre chart, you'll see it all there. Basically the second version of a tyre is usually best. Thanks for watching!
@@ATribeCalledCars It says OffRoad: II on Dirt ok with Mud, or I but less optimal, then for Mud: II on Mud or with Dirt, or III less optimal. And in one or you're vids you tested chained tires in a mud and snow comparison, but they are designed for dirt. Thanks for the chart Sir!
@@davidigleniec2483 There is usually more dirt than mud and other things such as terrain depth come into play. You really can't go wrong with offroad II or mud IIs. I would've tested chains years ago but never use them, the benefits of ice and rock are outweighed by performance elsewhere and you can usually just avoid ice roads anyway.
The neutral idea is absolute bullshit, about the tires i don't know because it depends on the truck you use. The last one is simple,if you take a shortcut make sure it has no rivers, deep mud, deep snow, deep swamps or terrain that might flip your truck, use the road instead and avoid irregular terrain as much as you can because AWD and diff lock makes the truck spend more fuel and can get it stuck or flip even if you have Tayga or Azov.
chained tire is somewhat correct toward real world!!!! If you drive on ice, you need chains for better grip on ice, but chains will not give you better grip in snow. Snow is much looser than mud and for getting best grip in snow with tires, big fat and soft tires with big groves in them, will give best grip, thus mud tire work quite well. Here in Norway, when we drive in snow, offroad, we use tires similar to mud tires but with much less air pressure, making them as soft as possible.
I remember watching a video about lowering tyre PSI to help with grip in snow, makes sense. I'm always amazed at the difference a set of winter tyres makes versus summer. We rarely swap in the UK but you would have to in Norway (I think it's a legal requirement in some countries). When in Norway recently I saw a fair few people rolling around on spike tyres despite the lack of snow, which seems odd haha.

I guess if your routes make use of icy roads, it makes sense. Personally I learned to avoid them in Amur, especially that sideways rocky outcrop near the island warehouse.
Just a note that chains are very handy on the frozen lakes.
Learned the shortcut myth in the hardway
Baptism of fire.
Using a short cut means using a route that does take shorter than the normal route. This is per definition the better way. If it takes longer, it's not a short cut. ;)
Shortcuts? You mean death traps. Hahahaha... So, SR is still the same, even in this phase.
Neutral does save fuel, but not when idling, just like real life funnily enough and Neutral free wheeling is higher top speed than most gearboxes. Apart from you not understanding how neutral works irl or in game. This was a decent video!
As far as I know in snowrunner chain tyres are only good for ice...
Pretty much! Not really worth the negatives, especially as most maps allow you to avoid ice or it's not so bad to navigate with mud or off-road tyres.
love your content keep up the great work!
Cheers, more SnowRunner stuff on the way.
Not once it went like ,,How the hell did you get in front of us" :D
Tho there were moments when I had to say:
- Guys, I have problem, lorry go 1 2 3, now I'm upside down please help x'D
So it's a risk-reward and pretty much exploring the map!
Oh heck! New SnowRunner content!
Lots more to come, getting back in the groove!
It tells u in the tire list that chain tires are only good for ice
People still use them for snow. I guess it stems from the logic of real life.
I take shortcuts a lot in my scouts but that’s just about it
Wise move. Those autonomous winches can save the day!
Really loved this style of video, good stuff
Cheers (he says while drinking an actual coffee).
@@ATribeCalledCars are you planning to make more of these videos? They are really entertaining.
@@pseudocoffee4829 The myth buster type video? It is tempting, seems to have done well. I also will do an advanced tips and tricks video as I think there is enough out there to make it useful.
Will there be a snow runner 2?
They're still working on content for Season 2, so I doubt it's in the works yet. I don't doubt there will be a sequel and hopefully even other games with similar driving physics.
@@Darion350 they asked the community if they wanted a year 2 or the new game so we are getting the year 2 and after new game
@@_Juke_ Works for me.
The success of SnowRunner guarantees it will live on, but maybe focus will be on that Dakar game is the licence really is now owned by Saber/Focus. I'm leaning more towards a sequel than Year 3 content but not by much!
@@ATribeCalledCars thanks for the reply! I have see the Dakar game but never played is it good?
Awesome video 👍
Cheers, Ted.
Is there any difference between all chains and rear only chains?
Presumably you would get improved mud traction at the front but based on some admittedly simple tests it seemed to make little difference. Likewise, unsure if it's really that much different on ice.
I just came here for the "Busted!"
I'm glad I'm finally getting the appreciation I deserve for my singing voice lol.
5. Shortcuts: Are not a Myth instead it's a Fact that a good found (or intentional) shortcut is faster than the regular way! And i encountered many in my playthrough that are not riskier than the regular route.
Great video, but I can confirm that neutral will in fact increase speed on decent. Try the paved road outside Smithville Dam. You will get wrecked.
That and also the long slopes in mountain river Alaska that goes toward the factory or warehouse
The slope road? I find the physics there is broken (or paved slopes in general). You get some crazy speed going on!
@@sansenoy I need to revisit the garage hill in Michigan, I remember some crazy speeds with a trailer and accelerating.
1:15 What's that vehicle with all the wheels? 🤣 I've not come across that yet lol
A mod truck called the Titanium. It is pretty ridiculous but good fun!
Depending on diff options for lorry you're towing.
nice vid make more! i also got 100% in kola peninsula it took a long time
Thanks and good job! Kola is no walk in the park.
Thanks this vid made me smile from beginning to end.
😎😎😎😎😎
Glad you enjoyed it.
I really wish they'd get the small vehicle physics down a little better so they wouldnt be so BoUnCy!
Trailers are super-bouncy, too. The scout fuel trailer for example drives me crazy. Is it made of styrofoam??
One thing is that if you have a truck or scout that has selectable awd on while it’s parked the fuel consumption is higher than it would be if awd was turned off
Yes, engaging it does increase fuel usage noticeably. But diff lock does not.
Bang on the money there ben
What trucks did you use
Chain tires are for icy roads, not snowny ones. In maps with most paved roads like Alaska, they come useful.
Correct. Alaska is really enjoyable with such a good mix of proper roads and off-roading.
I think the first myths only exist cuz people try to find any reason for the neutral gear to exist XD
Haha yeah I think so. Merry Christmas.
Chains are only good on ice in snowrunner
That's pretty much the short of it, indeed.
When you say "busted" you should try and use a tone of voice like the old ea sports logo that would pop up on PS1 games. Deeper as apposed to the high singing tone. : > ]
Woah woah woah, for the first point, I've totally gone way faster in neutral in the Zikz 605r
I'm going to test grade 2 tires now thank you for the busted
Hope you see an improvement.
The whole snow thing bugs me. Chains are absolutely 100% better in snow in reality and this game is supposed to simulate reality
Definitely some issues with simulation, particularly tyres and speed!
That's so accurate. 95% of my errors in the game have been caused when I got impatient.
Yeah some shortcuts has saved time sometimes I took my tuz 420 to the forest it saved time and fuel
I’m pretty sure this is Korg from Marvel .. 😂 love the content
My voice? Can't be the height haha. Cheers for the kind words.
I realized the “short” cut was never a good route shortly after the game released. Too many times I got hung up going the short route.
I still do it even after more than a year. Perhaps it's that ingrained self-destructive thing us humans sometimes have going on!
@@ATribeCalledCars We humans really need to learn from mistakes. And you can start with yourself.
*Proceeds again on that shortcut I know is going to fail*
The Spintires 2... ehm, sorry... Snowrunner physics are fundamentally flawed. Like asphalt isn't asphalt, it's just grey colored dirt. But that tire thing, the bs gearbox system and trailer weight is what players have complained about since day 1... 💁♂️
But at least we can have window curtains in our trucks! 🤪
And sounds according to forums
I'd like to know what the scary green eyes watching you from the forest are please!
Has to be former Saber employees who misbehaved and were uploaded to a digital prison. Or perhaps not.
@@ATribeCalledCars I am late to the comment but they are most likely what happened to all other traffic in the world of snowrunner. This would explain why you are always alone on the road in the game.
@@sugarflame1833 Some say it's post apocalyptic! Who knows for sure...
Gonna guess the end game is GRID 2. Love you’re vids, keep them up
Grid Legends is the official name but you're spot on, the follow up to Grid (2019). Good job.
Well need to change all my tires now fk
Hopefully it helps!
Myth Number Zikz-i mean Six:
ZiKZ is best truck.
according to reika and uh well hes right
also the game at the end is GRID Legends.
Haha Reika would be proud. And you're bang on about the game at the end.
More please
On the way, thank you for stopping by.
It will be interesting to know which trailer are the best in mud and so on... cause there are many trailers with same capacity...
It's been on the cards for a while, hopefully I can make it soon!
@@ATribeCalledCars thanks a lot for your work!
The longest distance between place A and B is an unkown shortcut. 😉🤙
Yes, very well put!
1:18 What is that truck?! Is that a mod?
it's definitely a mod as there are no mercedes trucks in snowrunner
Most expensive tires=best!
#smart
RIP Shortcuts! LOL
In Amur the thing with shortcut is realized. At the same way "shortcut's" its the only way. 🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭
I use uod 2 on every truck that can't have mudtires
Good plan.
Hey Ben, in the section about winching yourself what was the massive 48(?) wheeled monster we saw and where/why do you need to use it? I’ve never seen that anywhere in the game - or is that a mod?
That my friend is the Titanium mod, it has six storage slots (great for transporting oil drills)
Great way to bring truck reviews back! Until next time...😊
I was starting to write this up today, stay tuned!
Busteeeeeddddd 😂
This game hasn't been the same since they capped mods. I used to love multiplayer with my friend, now we don't even play anymore because it just results in us spending all our time on the mod menu figuring which 2 truck mods we can get turned on at the same time while still having our one trailer pack on...
They capped mods because a bunch of idiots couldn't figure out how to make them work online and ended up screwing it up for those of us who were perfectly fine with it the way it was...
It looks that when you unpack gargo the game thinks that the gargo is half lighter and it wont get you stuck on trees when driving in dense forrest
Yes, seems like the same reason why towing is easier than when a trailer is hitched. All a bit inconsistent!
I seem to remember that during truck evaluations earlier on in the game, that you repeatedly said that chained tires worked better. Am I remembering this wrong, or has the game just changed enough to be different now?
The fastest I've ever gone in this game is that little stretch from Smithfield dam to Black River you get your clutch going once you're at top gear or one before top gear you throw it in neutral and you just fly
2:58 You thought you were confused, you just gave us a riddle. From what I got out of that was.... Grade 1 tires are ok in dirt, bad in mud, Grade 2 is ok in mud, Grade 3 is ok in dirt, bad in mud, and on not sure if there is a mysterious 4th or you mean the fore as in the grade 1, or the Grade 2 because you started describing Grade 2 tires, Grade 3, and then Grade 1, so is the fore, Grade 2, or Grade 1, being the first you mentioned or 1 being 1 and 2 being 2.....
Sometimes shortcuts are faster but in like 8 or 10 or even 9 of 10 Times not it really depends wich shirtcuts, but some of them are worth
True true, you definitely learn which ones are worth it as you become an experienced trucker.
What is the second truck in this video? It looks like a Mercedes of some sort? (The one shown in the section for "Neutral speeds up the winch".)
As much as I know #5 to be a myth, it's still hard to follow it lol
Haha yep.
Put your rig in neutral with engine off and use parking back to control speed on paved roads. Then use low gear with engine off for off-road descent
i had way tro much trouble following the tire part haha
Please make a video about making 1 trip with 2 trucks winched vs. 2 trips with one truck!
and 1 real trip with size 8 trailer vs 2 trips with 2 trucks and 4 trips with one truck )
get better soon, Ben)
Cheers, feeling much better now. Normal (voice) service resumed!
Busted (in an awesome voice)!
is the mud and snow permanently deformed after you drive through or will the surfaces reset to default after some time ???
Why there is no Zetros 1833 ? 😥 only the 2743 (RNG Zentos)
chained tire is somewhat correct toward real world!!!!
Busted 😆 🤣
