  • Last year we made a video explaining how we make our beautiful hanging baskets on the nursery. You can see that here:- • How We Make Hanging Ba...
Thank you for all the lovely comments on that, we are glad it was useful.
This time we take products and plants from the shelf of the garden centre and make a luxury basket with them, showing every step of the process.
At the end of the video there are some pictures of our baskets over the years so that you can see how they end up with lots of water and a little care.

Oh my goodness. When I saw this video is over an hour, I thought I'd be fast forwarding a lot to get passed a lot of slow repeating steps. Well, you kept my attention throughout! I've made hanging backsets before, but nothing like this. I learned so many things I've done wrong.
I never thought to remove the chains, Duh! I really like your idea to place a circle of the compost bag onto of the very bottom layer of moss. So clever. I also never those to mix the fertilizer pellets into the compost how you do. I've always just mix them into the top layer of planting soil. I've also never thought to put back to flowering plants to vigorously. But that does make sense to allow the energy to go toward getting the roots to settle in and grow, thereby supporting a bigger plant eventually.
When living in Southern California, I always had a single asparagus ferns in each of several hanging baskets and just let them eventually emerge from around the side on their own. Now I want to try your technique with a variety of compatible ferns and having them coming out all over. Of course, I'll try with flowering and various shapes of green non-flowering plants.
One problem I had in SoCal is that the local birds stole a significant amount of the moss for their nesting material. So I had to use the coconut liners. Now that I live in S.E. Idaho, I have a lot more trees and even more birds, plus squirrels. I suppose I could try your technique by slicing slits into the coconut fiber liners to shimmy in my baby plants. I know I learned more than that from you, but I can't remember everything I said to myself "ah ha" about your demo.
Thanks so much for the thorough demo and explanation.

I'm really impressed! At first I was thinking there is no way I'm watching an hour-long video about making a "luxury hanging massive basket" (with 14 plants?), then an hour later I've watched it, and have re-started it from the beginning to see the exact moss used, because I'm actually considering taking down and re-making my four annual not-as-luxurious, way-less-than-semi-trailing, Spring hanging baskets.
Tim, I love how you prepped us with the bracket we'll need ("it will be heavy"), and that you're not stingy with your fertilizer. (Me, neither!)I can't wait to completely start all my brand new hanging baskets from scratch!🪴😬
