I remember cruisin' the strip on week-ends blasting out KXOK AM out of St. Louis with the windows rolled down and a good lookin' girl sittin' beside you. Man those were the days. I love this song, but it's sad to me because it reminds me of my hometown of Lancaster, California that "used to be" a beautiful small town. I still live in Lancaster, but it is not the same. It is now overcrowded, filled with welfare recipients, the pool where I learned to swim is closed, and the skating rink I used to go to is closed. Long live the days when Lancaster, CA "was" a small town!
Every Mellancamp song has a meaning to me and I love it, my grandfather got me hooked and we joke about it, haha he loves Mellancamp, it's his favorite artist of all time. My siblings and I tease him about it, but we love Mellancamp, too. So it all works out in the end haha.
ABSOLUTELY ! ! ! ! ! Talent has since gone out the window! But that's why people like John "The Cougar" Mellencamp and Bon Jovi and many others from our era will last for a couple more generations, while the current "performers"?... will only last till the next year or two.
