I will say this, Plutonia is the reason why we have great non canon episodes such as btsx 1 and 2 for examples . Especially map 32 in plutonia showed us it was possible to make historical difficult maps
Plutonia rocks. That's probably the best IWAD. Inspired the slaughter map and popularized revenant spam. It's been very influential on custom WADs. Awesome video! Really enjoyed it.
I'm not a fan of Plutonia *at all* but it has hands down THE best urban combat level in DOOM: map29, Odyssey Of Noises. God, I love that map. And if you're doing a continuous playthrough, you're ready for it with all the items you can scoop in map28, Sewers. As abstract and nonsensical as the maps of Plutonia are, those two actually "feel like" something more realistic. You're in a haunted underground/sewer system, and you emerge into a city that has been wholly subsumed into Hell. Blood/lava filled craters abound, the building architecture has been warped, but it's still identifiable as a city: roads, buildings, alleys, parks, courtyards, etc. It's top notch, and THE map I will go for for a "I just want to relax and blow stuff up" pistol start.
I'm not a good player. I didn't have that much of a hard time beating Ultimate Doom, first 20 maps of Doom 2, and TNT in general. But Plutonia... That thing is very hard for the casual. I know there are way harder WADs, but still. Like you said, far away packed hitscanners, traps and revs are a nightmare to deal with. TBH, I think the fact that you're playing with free mouse look lowers the difficulty. Try without Y axis and I bet it will feel much harder. I won't BE hard if you're a good experienced player of course, but most people "complaining" are casuals like me :)
Nah, its difficulty is vastly exaggerated. Not super easy, but it's quite far from any kind of ball-crushing stuff. It rewards ballsy play (which is not the equivalent of being stupid). Finishing it with UV/pistol start/no save will give a nice boost to a relatively new/casual player's skill.
This was a really cool video, very different from a lot of Doom RUclips videos and it stands out. In terms of Plutonia, I've always had a very love-hate relationship with it. I like the levels are more focussed than TNT but I also find some of the traps to be cheap and very tedious. It's a fun level set but I think it gets overhyped slightly by players.
"I don't have sympathy for players who plays it on highest difficulty and then complain how hard it is" is great take. It reminds me players, who complains, how hard are Elden ring late game bosses and yet they refuse to use summons.
Well hard is a relative term. It was hard when it was released and then the next year we got Hell Revealed with its 300 Arch Viles and 103 Cyberdemons. And then five years later we got Alien Vendetta which had some utterly nasty levels in its final third And now 30 years after the game was released, the most popular WADS for speedrunning are now considered medium difficulty now we have things like Sunlust
A big part of it is that in the 90s it was much more common to play with tank controls, which is a big skill challenge in its own right. Map32 was unprecedented at the time. It's easier than it looks, but these things have to be done for the first time before people balance them properly.
Plutonia is not apocalyptically hard, no. It's pretty doable and more balanced than TNT, and past the midway point the wad... loses all its momentum and becomes much easier. However it has earned my respect in how much carnage it creates with pretty tiny monster counts. There's very little bloat in the majority of the maps.
I've seen most your contents and seems like you did a pretty good job growing your youtube channel using doom game elements. Tho I'm also a doom content creator, I created 1 short film based on doom 3, but no one seems to care about it. It even only has less views than yours. Is there a way so that I might can grow my channel with those contents maybe fandom or community website where I can share it to (god I sounded like a child), I'm tired of making just a transformers content even tho it has more chance of viewers attention.
Plutonia MAP01 is childs play nowadays. I've never really played too far into it though because the level design is so old. At least TNT is experimental. For a hard but fun Doom WAD try Plutonia 2, Speed of Doom or Scythe 2.
Plutonia is a complete turn off for casual players like me. Similar to how Doom Eternal's first expansion ran half the people who played it through the meat grinder. Edit: a big reason for this in both games was the difficulty settings didn't match between the base game and the expansion.
I think difficulty can be subjective like my experience with classic doom is i have beat doom 1993 episodes 1-3 on nightmare only saving at the start of a level before i cannot do it now if i grind i probably could reach that skill again then there if final doom, a game i havent even done uv in that way, always save when i feel like it when it comes to modern doom, i cant play 2016 to save my life it is probably my worst maybe second worst worst doom, then there is doom eternal i have beat ultra nightmare on campaign and both DLC
You always have a healthy amount of shotgun ammo and rockets. Long as you know how to strafeRun the game is fun and challenging and all together my favorite Doom. No one cares about my opinion because I really don't like Doom eternal. Precision shooting in a Doom game should have never been perceived and I hate it
Have you played Plutonia?

Plutonia and TNT Evilution are my favorites out of the classic Doom Trilogy. Awesome video by the way.👍
Brings a tear to my eye seeing young people liking doom

I am still yet to play btsx
Omg it’s a must play that and btsx episode 2
Plutonia:
Jonas Feragen: Hold my Hissy
Plutonia experiment is my favorite doom of all time. Honestly, an ultraviolence run without save/load scumming should be on any Doom fan to-do list
I'm more hyped to see what Romero does with Hellion, using Doom 2 assets. You know he's taking some things from plutonia
When's it coming out?
@@thomasromer5369I'm thinking he's probably aiming for May 5, 2024, which would be the 30th anniversary of Doom 2's release date.

Plutonia is not a brickwall for casuals that play on a lower difficulty befitting their skills. Not everything has to be played on UV.
Nah, its difficulty is vastly exaggerated. Not super easy, but it's quite far from any kind of ball-crushing stuff.

Thank you! And I personally enjoy the challenge with the traps but I understand how they could be considered cheap

Plutonia is my favorite Doom game. It rewards smart play like no othe part of the franchise and definitely made me a better player.

Playing plutonia with wads like colourful hell was a blast
Loved plutonian experiment, absolutely incredible ❤ and it was a pain in my 🍑 but was very fun, loved every minute of it

Kinda think TNT was harder but Plutonia is the better of the two.

How would you know if you haven't even played through it? This game has great design, especially Odyssey of Noises.
Maybe the hype would be more justified if the year was 1997, because plutonia isn't that much by today's classic wad standards.

Hunted is really the easiest map in the game. It's the only Plutonia map I beat on my first try.
Although try getting 100% kills - including the four Archies in the final room. It is possible apparently from a pistol start
@@reptongeek Only technically. Those archies are usually discounted.

Just look up mods on the Doomworld and ZDoom forums. Plenty to pick from, all of them safe.
