Thank you so much to Brad, our incredible mason, who has been working on the school for a full year now repairing bricks, opening up windows, closing up windows, and basically being the backbone of this whole project. If you're looking for a mason in central Indiana, I can't recommend him enough. (And feel free to send me an email at schoolhomestead @ gmail.com if you want his contact!)

I live in a one room brick schoolhouse built in 1867. It was already a home when I bought it but needed lots of TLC and updating. It has been quite a project and I'm far from done. I can't imagine taking on a project the size of the one you're doing. Your videos are great Thanks.
One thing about the bricks on my place is that through the years the students carved their initials into them, so all around the perimeter and up to about 3 feet from the stone foundation are memories of many of the kids that went to school here.
@tedzerbe, I’m sure your project will be stunning as well. Also, can you imagine keeping the initials of former students on the structure? That would be pretty amazing for the family members of former students to find your home (the school where their ancestors once attended).
Awsome ..living amongst history...how amazing.
That house is going to make for an AMAZING home once you're done.
Luckiest old schoolhouse in all the Midwest, for sure. Glad that one of these will be preserved and for sure it's fun following along!
As someone who's been involved in Historic Preservation for the better part of my adult life, and now is a college professor teaching Architectural History, I have to say that just this one video makes the channel worth a subscribe. Can't wait to follow this one.
Well done you.
A good mason is an artist. They are worth their weight in gold! The brickwork is lovely. Covering it in plaster is almost a sin. Brad has risen to "magician" status!
I'm convinced the dust fairies come in at night and scatter it all over to make you and your broom feel necessary!
Keep going! You're doing amazing things!
The brickwork is stunning, and it's so wonderful that you have expert and trusted workers!
“Beastly work ethic” I can’t imagine a better compliment for a craftsman! ❤
The bricks...Oh.my.word. They are gorgeous, and the chunkier the more beautiful they are. What a project. Thank you for sharing this journey.
I so so agree, team chunky bricks!!
@@SchoolhousehomesteadI’m enjoying your videos even tho I’m not good at diy myself. But I definitely enjoyed watching diy shows whether it’s big networks or you tubers doing it. I’m curious to know what heating system you’re going to have like a gas boiler, heat pump or air pump. As in my country Wales currently part of the UK. They & rest of uk are going to ban boilers for new builds but houses already existing can wait for there boiler to reach end of life basically before requiring a heat pump or air pump.
I'm enjoying watching your progress! There is nothing like skilled craftsmen...looks like you got lucky with yours!!! It is going to be stunning and you are so respectful of the building itself.
I see so many buildings that are empty and I have anxiety for them, as almost always they are neglected until they are no longer salvageable. It’s a shame.
Kudos to you for seeing the potential in this old school building!♥️♥️♥️
I love how you pay compliments to those workers helping you!! I love what you are doing.
The brick in that school house is beautiful!!! So glad you are preserving it!
I can’t even imagine the budget for this project. It’s going to be worth every penny!
Gorgeous brick and plaster! Yay, team!
I found your channel today after being recommended a Short, and I immediately watched all your videos (yes ! all of them ! now you will have to post more !), and it's contagious how passionate you are about this building. The new floorplan seems fantastic and I can't wait to see more. And you must be the only renovation channel on RUclips that doesn't plan on turning everything white and bland 😅 Hopefully you'll all be able to move in this year, and enjoy this gorgeous place full of past, present and future.
Best channel on RUclips right now!
Y'all are definitely a true meaning of PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE ❤
I LOVED seeing the brickwork in action, and the plastering as well. Those bricks just came alive, and we got to see it with our own eyes. So inspiring.,
Brad is an artist on fixing the brick work!
What a fabulous, fabulous project. I think you know how much I thoroughly enjoy when you post these videos. I am thrilled to catch this, this morning. You all are making great decisions and I can't wait for the next one!
Thank you so much Tim!!
Exceptional stone brick walls. POLISH THE STONE WALLS AND SEAL THEM SO AS TO BRING OUT THE BEAUTIFUL COLOR. Reminds us of our GLENGARRY STONES THAT ADORN THE EXTERIOR OF OUR CUSTOM HOME giving it a touch of French chateau ambiance
You've putted a lot of love into the walls.
I think that’s wonderful that your Mason guy finally found what would work on the bricks. They are beautiful n they definitely don’t make em like that anymore. This school house/home is going to be awesome. I can’t wait to see more. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 to Brad and his team for making this brick restoration a possibility. There are a lot of projects you can do on your own, like door stripping for instance, but others are impossible without the knowledge, tools, and experience. This home will be completely different then it could have been thanks to Brad et al, and his incredible work. Finding tradespeople like him is REALLY challenging these days, you are very fortunate to have found him and his skill set. Congrats to you on that monumental task!!
This is the coolest you tube project!! Thanks for continuing to document and share this incredible story!!
It's always interested me how some contractors are practically artists at their craft, they aren't purely demolishing or building but using the material to tell a story.
I love stories like this, so many people live in cookie cutter houses (myself included) so something with so much character is inspiring.
This is SO FASCINATING! ! ! I'm hooked Love this project
The brick looks beautiful I just wish you would put out videos weekly so we can watch the whole process
I try!! I edit all these videos early in the am or late at night so it takes a while. 😅
What a project you have taken on but it's going to be worth it. Great Video
I just love old masonry. In my 1908 brick home, I want to expose my bricks when I remodel my bathroom. I'm thinking about coating them with maybe an epoxy resin to seal them and make the color pop!
You need to give Brad a room of honor in your home.
Agree, Brad rules!
Thank you for preserving the gorgeous brick. Beautiful!

I ♥️ when it’s sped up.
I dreamt once that I lived in an old school. What a fantastic project!
Your description of the brick is, among other things, understated. The brick is splendid: skillfully laid, a myriad of colors, splendid textures. I don't remember if I mentioned this in a previous comment, but if you have large silver serving pieces or candelabra, make space in the basement for a room lined with "Pacific Cloth" to store your silver. It will protect it from contaminants and retard tarnish. Oh, and a couple of bowling lanes. Your young'uns would love it. Thanks for posting the video. It's a pleasure to follow your process.
I’m loving your videos! Your house is going to be AMAZING!!
Ugh, I love the timelapses
You could get a flat dry varnish for the bricks, it would bring out a richer color and seal the bricks at the same time, and be easier to clear the marker/crayons off the wall later when the kids get a chance to show off their artistic side.
The progress yall have made is just incredible in itself!
Excellent changes!!
Yep, better music or no music…
You, have a beautiful speaking voice, very melodic, rich and warm!! Just let us hear you!! I am a singer and have taught voice lessons for over 40 years, I know!!
ah thanks! 😂😅 I'll use music more sparingly in other videos, thanks for the note!
I love thi!!!! I am originally from Franklin, and I am so happy that you are all taking this on and making this historical building you home! I will have to follow and keep watching.
I am in awe of what you are accomplishing! And to know you found the right people with the know how to do it all! This is so enjoyable to follow! And I look forward to seeing you living here and continuing on with what you were doing in the big city! Videos will continue! Yea!
Really great pick on getting Brad and his skills for all your brick walls...
Wonderful journey, thanks for allowing us to come along!

Can’t wait to see the ending. It’s going to be so beautiful. ❤ Good luck to you all! The workers are a blessing to share their skills.

Impressive.
I really love a brick wall, you dont have to paint, they breath and hiides all the knocks such a win.
WOW ! ! ! You folks are doing a tremendous job. Can't wait to watch your next vid. 😊
WOW what an awesome project, I will follow this till the end
Excellent continuation of the restoration/build. Looking real good.
I think some those large bricks that has the name of the manufacture on them may be the same bricks they use to pave the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They sure look like the ones I have...
I was looking them up and saw that the Speedway bricks say Knobstone! I need to do more research because I'm not sure if "Knobstone" is a brand or a type of brick. I was getting some mixed messages in one late night Google session.
Masonry has always been art. Whether old mansions or early skyscrapers. It took skill. The creepy feeling you got. You shouldn't ignore. You might think about spiritual cleansing and or blessing. Partly because of the livestock place inside the building. That some barns build up active from having livestock. I know this sounds crazy. But it's not unheard of. Especially; since all the work you are doing. It's just a thought.
Been following you folks… Ty for letting us see the progress
Fan girlies? I really enjoy watching your restoration.
I have seen this before. Maybe not this school but one out west they had slot of children. It was awesome.
Love this project 😀👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful!!
This place looks better every video that I see... Restoring the place one brick at a time...
Fantastic.
This project is amazing!
Incredible work !!
Amazing and beautiful !!!
Coming along nicely ❤
Lovely.
I love watching it come together!
I love these updates! Thank you for sharing your journey.
Love the updates!
Great job, Brad!! 👍
I remember this from a post you made on Imgur last year. Always wondered how it turned out. glad to have found it again!
Have you considered using the technique of sandblasting with dry ice to clean those brick wall as this would minimise the water damage to your wooden floors? I haven't seen it used on buildings, but it works a treat on cleaning up other surfaces.
I've seen them blast wood beams with dry ice. Worked great. Also i thi k you can shoot walnut shells.
This is fascinating!!!! Wonderful work!! So beautiful!!
Love it!
This is going to be so cool!

YES! 🙌🏻
That’s most Excellent.
Just absolutely love the videos. Please keep them coming and letting us dream with you. It’s going to be fabulous. 😊
May I suggest LED lighting in your baseboards to A. Show off the gloriously naked brick, and B. Provide excellent mood lighting that is energy efficient and wallet friendly.
Oh that’s a great idea, thank you!!
@@SchoolhousehomesteadYou’re so welcome. I’m a big fan of what you’re doing, and can’t help but have a whole dark academia crush on your build. Especially with your mascot/inspiration being the wild turkey. One of the most colorful and diverse textured animals in the world in my opinion.
Thanks so much for the really well done videos and updates on your amazing to be home!
Give those old machineries equipment to museum
It might just be cheaper to adopt Brad! family can work for free.
Fun stuff
I’m enjoying watching the progress!
Side note: the music in the video is loud, but your voiceover is quiet. It was difficult to find a setting to hear you clearly and then not get blasted by music a few seconds later.
The brick is beautiful! I’m looking forward to more videos.
This space would also be great as an artist residency
4:15 u should make it a library like beauty in the beast omg i would love too see thattt
