Thank you Gary! This is Catherine and I am so glad I found you and trusted you and yes drove all the way to you to have my transmission fixed. My car is running wonderfully now! Wow this is a really intricate job and i love the way you are so composed and are so professional. Again thank you so much Gary! You are the best! 😊😊 Great video 😊
thanks Gary, am doing one of these now and U are a wonderful help, did U answer my question about where to get brushes to clean the bores of valve bodys
I am back, what part of the State's you from,i am just guessing you live the states. Don't tell the boss i am working away listening to your channel while taking an occasional look. 👍
hi Gary I have a four mustang with the transmission 5r55s The transmission slipping in to shift from 2nd to 3rd in some 3rd to 4th and I don't have any code please help me
Thanks Gary very good info video , I have a question I have 2002 Ford Explorer it seems It don't have pressure ,when I get to third gear to fifth the RPM needle goes down to 1800 to 2000 rpm ,I don't have any codes, I check and clean the solenoid pack and Valve body and I replace tps , if you can help me I would appreciate thanks
+Gary Ferraro yes i have a modis 11.2 but i don't have any engine code only thing i replace a year a go was a gas pedal cable that goes to the throttle body i don't know if that affected my transmission
Hi Gary good video. I am in the process of rebuilding a 5r55s transmission from a 2004 ford explorer with a 4.6 l engine. What is the coast, direct and forward clutch pack clearance specifications?
I found the specs in a ATSG manual for the coast, direct and forward clutch pack clearance, .051-.079. Have another question. I was having 2nd and 3rd flaring when shifting and reverse would engage hard .Since tearing the tranny down I found the overdrive and intermediate servo bores worn. I have re bushed both servos. Also replaced the thrust washers in the overdrive planet. All other planets, bearings, sprags , clutch packs look excellent in this tranny. Rebushing the servo bores I think will take care of the 2nd and 3rd gear flaring. I was wondering what is causing the harsh reverse? Only does it when engine is warmed up ,not cold.
I see no change in 3-4 shift when its hot or cold, only in reverse.I was planing on changing the bands and clutch friction disks for the rebuild. Could there be an issue in the valve body or solenoid causing the harsh reverse? I have not taken the valve body apart yet to look at it.
@@gsh454 Haven't really seen the valvebody cause this, solenoid pack can though. If it's already in reverse and you go to neutral and select reverse again it is a harsh engagement?
hi gary thanks for helping me i have another 09g transmission with an issue when shifting into 4th and 6th gear it revs up and then it shifted the code i have was for two solenoid is this a problem in the clutchs or in the solenoid it self
+issa alazzabi do you have a number for the code?; is it a solenoid performance code? You may have told me, where are you located? you get alot of the 09G units to repair?
You could have a bad pump, bad filter or stuck regulator valve, did you check the fluid to see if it seems overfull? Nothing is common to foward and reverse on this trans
@@GaryFerraro I have a Mustang with same transmission and I lost both reverse and drive. It only goes into 1,2 and 3 with a clunk. If you put it in D or R and give it gas it slightly rocks with gas either backward if in reverse or forward in drive. I have done some research and it points towards the overdrive sprag bearing, a common failure. No codes at all.
@@GaryFerraro thanks Gary for your feedback. Note that I was having an intermittent 2-3 shift flare for a couple of years with this car. Sometimes when this happened I would lose drive and reverse but they would come back once the car had been parked for a day. Also, when this would happen as I slowed down to a stop I could hear clunking in the drive train as the car downshifted. I had the car at my local Ford dealer last October and they were having trouble figuring it out and were discussing the issue with the Ford tech hotline. We decided to put a new solenoid pack and valve body in it and the car seemed to work good for 1000 miles after that until this latest issue. This time the transmission flared when I was pulling out to pass at 65 mph on the highway. Then the car continued to drive ok on the highway but when I got off it, I had no drive or reverse and those have not come back this time. This car is custom tuned as it has some bolt-ons requiring a tune. The transmission was tuned to have firmer shift points. I don’t know if that would have been bad for it but some info I read online indicated that having firmer shift points in this transmission won’t damage it and may actually be better for it. Not sure on that. Any ideas about that? There are so many issues with this transmission that I am considering to try to negotiate a deal with the dealer to replace it. My car is very clean and well maintained and not abused and it amazes me to have such issues. I have owned Ford’s all my life and never once had a transmission problem on vehicles with 2-3 times the mileage this one has. It’s a nice car but it’s a POS when I can’t reliably drive it because of transmission problems!! Thanks for your time!
@@GaryFerraro could a overdrive sprag that was going out cause a 2-3 shift flare like I had before and then the bearing got so bad that I lost reverse and drive permanently? Or maybe those are two independent issues as I never had that 2-3 shift flare anymore after replacing the valve body and solenoid pack. There are so many issues with this transmission that maybe the two are not related.

Catherine Caylus how is it, still running?
Another great video Gary on the 5r55s. You seem to know them very well.
Thank you, yes i do a lot of these units

+Rafael Rojas Does it feel very sluggish, does the engine respond to the gas pedal?
+Gary Ferraro yes gas pedal respond well but feels little heavy when I go over 50 mph
To me it almost sounds like an engine problem, do you have a scanner to view live data?, was anything done to the car that lead up to this problem
+Gary Ferraro yes i have a modis 11.2 but i don't have any engine code only thing i replace a year a go was a gas pedal cable that goes to the throttle body i don't know if that affected my transmission

Good job I appreciate
Thanks for watching
hey gary still didn't figure out the camera HD settings?
I think I did, going to put up a test clip that I filmed. This was shot about weeks ago. Going to put it up this week. Gary
+Gary Ferraro I set it to 720 I think. It wasn't on that setting
lol ok bro good work by the way keep em coming
Great video.. I'm curious what the actual physical cause of the loss of 2nd and OD? Was it the sprague?
front band was broken which is 2nd and 5th
